That happened to me once except it wasnt at the airport it was boarding a cruise ship. I (stupidly) put my passport in the front pocket of my suitcase and asked my mom to watch it while i went and met the rest of our family. When i came back my mom had checked the luggage in. 😑 Lesson learned. NEVER EVER put your passport in your luggage. ALWAYS keep it on you at all times. I was lucky and they were able to track down my bag and get it but trust me it was a stressful few hours. Would not recommend. Also quadruple check before leaving the house, hotel, wherever your staying that you have everything.
You can bring razors, as long as the blade is hidden (in the plastic). You can't bring a open-bladed razor in your carry-on. Also: If you want a small snack you can take these smashed-fruit-smoothie-things that you can get in the kids section. They usually fit the measurements of 3oz or less :)
One correction to what she said... Spare lithium ion battries MUST be in your carry on bag. It's allowed (but not smart) to to have your tech that has l-ion batteries in checked luggage, but spare camera batteries and the like are not allowed in checked luggage.

My uncle smoked for 40 years and all he had to do is take his Bic lighter out of his pockets and put it in one of those little bowls. If you want to bring a reusable water bottle, dump it out the night before. Make sure that there are no water stuck in the straw and the bite valve that some water bottles have such as Camelbak eddy water bottles. Once you got all of the water out, leave the water bottle in a place where it won't be forgotten overnight to let the remaining water droplets dry out. If you need a drink before you go off to the airport, just drink a glass of water until it's time to go. Once you passed security, you can refill your water bottle at the water fountain or wait until you get on the plane and ask if they can fill up your water bottle with water.
Would baby wipes/makeup remover wipes need to be in a tsa bag? Or can those with my “makeup bag” along with my brushes? Does the makeup bag need to be clear as well?

On the way home I spent a couple of days in Mexico City and when trying to get through security on my way home they X-rayed my carry-on bag 3-5 times before confiscating my razors!

If u r flying domestic in a carry on I don’t think that your liquids have to be in a clear bag. I’ve flown from New Jersey to Florida and back many times with only using a carry on. They have always been in an orange bag. But if u are flying abroad then definitely use the clear bag

Shaving cream IS considered aerosol to some guards. Last time I flew, I got mine taken away at TSA

My husband had nail scissors confiscated from his very expensive nail set. The clippers were fine. This happened in Australia.
I've vrought back a lot of food from Mexico to the US and nothing has ever been "argued" about that thing by TSA, or the Aduana, or customs.
