I love the Godox Sr. The slightly cooler color of the light would be good for fill flash under daylight, and to match the color to "tungsten" light (or just as often warm LED light these days), I could put a gel on it. And the retro styling just calls to me, being an aging boomer. Edit to add: Okay, my Godox Senior arrived, and I've taken a few test shots with it mounted on my Lumix GX9. It looks great on that camera, and it works well.

Your video was very informative. I have the Nikon Z fc retro style digital camera and bought both the Godoy Junior and Senior for it. I have been a bit intimidated by them, being used to modern automatic flash units with flash exposure compensation-I can see how this would work well with a film camera. I had a Canon AL-1 that unfortunately broke. It gives me a better idea of what flash to use for a certain kind of look.

Thanks for the review, Hashem. I purchased the Senior recently and found it works well with all my film cameras, both 35mm and medium format (although I found that the shoe on the Pentax no longer works. I have to use the sync port, which does.) The inclusion of a sync cable is a nice touch, although it could be longer. I have not found the light fall off that you commented on. The unit does indeed give a nice soft look. The colour temperature difference won't matter with film. It has encouraged me to shoot more film shots with flash, which is the purpose of the exercise. Regards.

Good review, thanks. I'd be interested in results with the Junior if gelled with CTB, to compensate for its orange cast. [Edit] I've read that the Junior can also run "bright," meaning even at it's most reduced power it could be too bright, which a gel could also help mitigate?

I was super excited looking at this flash online because I had thought that it might have an adjustable thyristor. While I usually shoot digital, I learned with film and thyristor flash. I really dislike TTL auto flash. I love my old thyristor Metz flash, but hate that I have to stop down so much to use it with high ISO's. For quality of light direct flash is never going to compare with using the tilt and swivel to bounce off walls or ceilings. I've the TT350C and use it on Canon digital and all my film cameras (in manual mode) and it's an awesome flash. With TTL support on your Fuji too its way more capable than either of these Lux models. If you're only buying one flash defo the TT350!

@@paulgerrard99 thanks! I did eventually decide to get the TT350F since the Junior is a bit gimmicky but definitely looks great on the camera. The TT350 just has everything you need in a flash.

I bought the junior and it won't work on a cold shoe, I've tried it on two cameras a Kiev 4 and a Voigtlander Bessamatic both are in as new condition, and two different flash units as i thought the first one was broken so got a replacement, same thing happened. Plug it into the sync port and mount it on the cold shoe and it shorts and won't fire. Take it off and hold it plugged in and it works but this is a rather awkward way of using it. It also won't work on the hot shoe of my Pentax MX but that could be the hot shoe not working but I doubt it as the Pentax is as new also. If I plug it into the Pentax sync port and mount it on the hot shoe it works so that's how I'm going to have to use it. Oh well..

been using the lux senior for my night club photos and 6 months in the petals are miss aligned the glass dome protecting the flash tube has given way but I glued that back in. so for so good with the electronics. I shoot it with my NIkon D810 and Nikon FE for film shots.

The first time I saw the Lux senior, was at an opening of a book exhibit. A dressed up gentleman was sporting the Lux senior on a mirrorless Nikon Z7. Of course I had to get a picture of him, and that retro look.

How do the flashes work on film cameras with out a battery in the camera?

The signal to trip the flash doesn't require a battery in the camera 🙂

@@amirabuel-hasayb4495 It's a basic circuit, which is closed by default and opens when you fire the shutter, allowing an electrical signal to flow through and fire the flash.

Interesting. For me, regular batteries are a plus because it's not an expensive proprietary battery, and if I need batteries in the middle of something, no big deal. I'm curious as to why you find that a disadvantage?
