This interview showed how poor the American perception has on ASEAN and most importantly Indonesia. America is clearly wanting Indonesia and ASEAN to pick sides. Food security, regional peace and truce in Ukraine were overlooked by the Americans. It is really unfortunate that a country with stature such as the USA is provoking tensions and war to break out in the Asian region; how could he just said there would be military conflict in 2027. John should be ashamed when the president deftly answered the first four questions and not fell to the provocation tactics. The world will be a tough place to live in if the only way to go up is by pulling someone else down. That kind of thinking is archaic.

Agree! it's a stone-age barbaric way of thinking, and it's sooooooo typical for Western media & politicians' blatant ignorance on how cultures other than Western culture works. For us who understand Javanese culture (President Jokowi is Javanese) and Asian culture in general, the way the President is responding has already sent a clear message of his (and Indonesia's) standpoint on US-China's conflict. In a regular social communication setting in Indonesia, the person who posed such questions would have already backed off & no longer further pursued in such an ignorant & impolite manner. The questions were posed as if the President or Indonesians were not observant of how the overall conflict was started and developing.

Very wise and down to earth leader Indonesia has..classic middle power approach to international relations..don’t pick sides in toxic big power rivalry and profits off both sides..also it is quite clear that despite prevailing political correctness in a handful of Western countries about the actions&intentions of China and Russia, most of the rest of the world don’t see it in such narrow confrontational mindset..which is a blessing for the future of humanity..more trade and integration, less barriers and sanctions that won’t deliver deterrence or peace but instead sowing more seeds for blind hatred and bloody conflicts that destroy humanity..

sure, he's not perfect just like any other human, many people complain about how he doesn't listen to protestors in the capital, but I am not mad at him for ignoring protestors in jakarta, most of these sjw and paid protestors don't give any value for economy and well being for our people, I'd rather have him working in many provinces to ensure everything is done correctly than listening to what those protestors want lmao

i like that the interviewer asked direct questions. Jokowi also answered smartly, although at some point he was a bit pissed / irritated. But that means a good thing, as he had the opportunity to clear up some things that the interviewer or audience doubt about him.
The question about palm oil and deforestation were also on point. It's good to know that the government has issued a lot of reforestation movements. I did not know that before. I like Jokowi and what he has done in Indonesia, but one of a few things that I doubt about him is his commitment to ecology, nature, and life science. I see his policies as a strong push towards greater economy and wealth of Indonesia people. As long as Indonesian people get benefit from it, he will do it, despite that that decision might have to sacrifice nature. But his answer on reforestation answered my doubt (a bit). Thanks Pak Jokowi, Pak John and Bloomberg.

The president spoke just fine, his tone is very respectful and he showed a great deal of humility. Very regrettable that the English-translated voiceover ruins it. But hopefully when someday Indonesia economic is growing much faster, US will treat Indonesia like an enemy similar to what happened to China. That ridiculously sounds ridiculous.😆
If they want to win the market. then adjust the products to the markets' need. For example: Indonesia street is relatively narrow, so if they want to sell cars in Indonesia, they need to adjust the car size etc accordingly or if they want Indonesia to have a much wider road then invest in it!
Just like Freeport, it has been exploited for many years. The permits is for copper but in reality they took lots of gold and let people of Papua undeveloped.

Mr editor in chief should be very shameful to represent Bloomberg in such a manner. in such a rare opportunity to interview a country's leader, you could really bring up more provocative/critical questions in a more professional manner. instead, he represented Bloomberg not with neutral stance from the very beginning of the dialogue, and showed how he stood very one sided and subjective in his views even before the president had any chance to talk, let alone answering any of the questions.
props to Widodo for his very calm and collected answers. i wish to hear more of him with a proper interview
