    I have this GS02 BOM and I agree with you regarding the pros and cons with this platform.....but.....the challenge is making it work. I have spent MANY hours working on my GS02 and I can say that it now one of the best performing crawlers I now own. My main focus is extreme rock crawling, not just a trail rig! (BTW, I have some pretty epic crawlers in my collection). Check out my build thread on RCC. The fact that some aftermarket Axial 10.2 parts are interchangeable means that upgrades are available immediately. Gmade is currently working on a new transmission case that will eliminate the clicking although the clicking can be rectified without these part(s). I absolutely love my BOM and would highly recommend it to the builders that love to make things better from the get-go!

      Thanks for commenting Bil, I definitely looked over your thread, and know what you're capable of. Have always been a fan of your work. Like I say, it's a good truck, but here's the million dollar question: Would you take this (stock) over the competitors? I try and review based on what's in the box, not what you can do to make it better, but can definitely appreciate that "x factor". Thanks very much for your comments! And not to worry, I'll keep it, and make some major changes!

      @@scalebuildersguild Thanxs SBG, I appreciate the compliment. Comparing the various trucks that are available, stock vs stock, the BOM is not a top competitor although it's not at the bottom of the list IMHO. I look forward to seeing what you do with your BOM.

There are a lot of videos of them crawling just as good as any other stock truck granted tires were changed and probably suspension upgrades but that’s no different than anything else your going to buy.

    I love my BOM! I have about 10 hours of run time on mine and haven't experienced the clicking gears, but then again I'm running a Tekin 45t brushed motor and 5000mah NiMH batteries! The shock hoops were to flexy, so I installed a spare link in between them for a brace!

    Fair review and good video. Although there isn't a wide variety of non-GMADE specific aftermarket upgrades available. Keep in mind.... since it does have a lot of similarities with the SCX10.2 up front... some of those parts actually do fit! I'm enjoying my build so far, and while I'm not going to be putting the power you did, I did make sure that everything was bolted down on the transmission case. I noticed that in order for the transmission case to properly have rigidity, you need to make sure the 4 screws on the case, 1 screw on the bottom to the cover, and the 2 screws (to the slider) AND slider are bolted down properly to get that clamp. So 7 points that need to be properly bolted down (along with the sliders) :P. BTW, I've seen people use the bottom box to put some lead weight inside. I'm not sure what I'll do on mine yet. I look forward to trying to get the best out of this platform. Variety is the spice of life :)

    You make fun of them for copying then make fun of them for not copying, make up your mind. Pretty sure no stock transmission will stand up to brushless power with locked wheel and full power either, seen a ton of stripped or wrecked transmissions from less than what's showed here. All the differences you complain about are the very things that make me want it more and I applaud Gmade for stepping outside the box a little. Love the rear shock setup and the articulation, the truggy/rear cage, side rails, body mount system, axle design, steering angle, and frankly, how can you complain about the battery/servo location when there's tons of video of people modding older trucks to be exactly like that, seems a smart move to me.
    Lastly, I'm no fanboy of any brand and all I see is people making apologies for some companies and slamming others. Not to name names but one other brand has made quite a few IMHO lousy changes lately but all you hear is apologies.

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not making fun of anyone. Nor do i make fun of them for not copying. You must have misunderstood. Additionally, I can full throttle with much more power in a lot of Axial trucks under the same conditions and not split the transmission case. Steering angle isn't any better than the current crop of competitors, there's too much articulation, axle design is a Currie clone, and I am merely pointing out that the design is VERY similar to current trucks. Whether it's good or bad is moot.
      Not sure what other brand you're talking about, so can't comment there. Thanks for your feedback!

Kids nowadays wont be able to tell but every company (even traxxas and axial) has their own little "copied" designs off others. Thats just how marketing works. @@scalebuildersguild I forgot to mention that I ran internal shocks up front, with a droop setup, that made the difference. Stock front is too much up travel. In the rear I added the sway bar kit.
      As a side note, the chassis panhard bar mount has too much flex, causing loss of steering in forward and excessive steering in reverse. I corrected that with a custom stainless steel brace running from the panhard bolt accross to the bottom of the battery tray. Problem 100% solved.
      As for torque twist, the weight transfer to the rear is of course unloading the front, however, when weighted front wheels (I don't weight rears) are added it reduced that conciderably.
      Lastly, if you extend the upper link lenth on the rear axel by about 2mm, it puts a bit more up angle on the rear driveshaft, this has 2 advantages. One it reduces the strain on the drive shaft and more importantly it significantly reduces torque twist (in addition to the weighted front tires).

    Its not a bad lookin truck. I agree it looks ALOT like a scx10.2 n the trx4. On the tranny issue... Wat about drilling the hole thru, bevel the shid side for a bevel head screw n put a nyloc nut on the top side? That would help keep the case together n stop the slip of the gears.

    Are those two extra electronics boxes waterproof/resistance? If not, how hard would it be two make them waterproof? I often add electronics boxes to my builds for things like winch and light controllers, as well as BECs. These are things that will not need to be futzed with all that much once installed, and it makes the main RX box cleaner, easier to access and easier to dress wires when closing up. So, having G-Made throw extra electronics boxes in is a plus for me.

    Nice job on the review,im torn between the similarities because in a way its good that there doing what they know people like and at the same time it opens alot of doors for the aftermarket upgrades but i do agree companies should all be doing there own thing to make there own mark on the hobby.

    • @toddbertram6556
      @toddbertram6556 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the problem with each company doing there own thing is that there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. Fact is some stuff works and some doesnt, that is why each company doesnt do there own thing although they do try. Personally I'll still rock my first gen scx10, yes it is heavily modded but in reality there is nothing new out there that performs better for me. I drive scale, I run full sag and my truck is 12lbs, because it's a crawler! I never even been tempted to run brushless in a crawler. Anyway, off topic now. To each their own, that is rc and that is what makes it interesting.

    • @ricksscalerc2222
      @ricksscalerc2222 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i agree,my trucks are all set up the same way,droop,brushed motor,and are all heavy.i enjoy driving them as realistic as possible also.i agree why keep reinventing what works,but at the same time those front shock hoops look like they bought them directly from axial..they couldve made them atleast look different is what im saying.

  • @jamesjustus3783
    @jamesjustus3783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yea I disagree with a couple points made. Where is I agree with the goofy trans design, my bom is brushless and ran on a 3s and I have not had ANY nosie or slipping from the trans gears. Also I agree with the rear being loose due to the cantilever but a thicker fluid in the rear greatly helps and I will say the aftermarket sway bar is a must. Part I really disagree on is your torque twist test. Mine takes off perfectly flat every time. If your test wouldn’t have pulled the front end up it wouldnt have twisted. With the axles both on the ground the reverse rotation works as it should, but the second the front end comes up you lose the effect

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad it's working for you James, entirely cool to disagree. Perhaps you got the updated pieces in your kit. Have to disagree with your second point, as torque twist is exactly what is being shown. It's pretty difficult to overcome, for any tiny truck.

    I’ll revise my comment that way it’s constructive and not a blah comment so seeing how gmade is going in this semi axial sorta way gom very close to the bomber and the bom being more honcho like would you have rather seen gmade stick to a leaf sprung truck and continued to improve in that sense not so much as a rival to the tf2 but more as just a different option for us that prefer leafs to coils

    I don't like the looks. Im not a fan of the tube railing for a bed.. i'm kinda confused on the fact that it's a bad thing, that they copied in some part from axial and traxxas. But it's also a bad thing that it's too different to use existing aftermarket parts. Its like bad if they copy and bad if they don't. Lol
