Great stuff, Andrew. Re the cultivator with adjustments from the cab, I can recall (when Machinery correspondent for British Farmer & Stockbreeder in the early 1980s) advocating the use of hydraulic controls from the cab to adjust the various elements of cultivators. It was when most adjustments still had to be made manually via turnscrews or even unbolting and re-bolting. Whenever I suggested it to manufacturers, on the grounds that it would allow adjustments to be made on the move to suit different soil types within a field, the reaction was nearly always that it wasn't really necessary and would make the machines too expensive for farmers. Things have clearly moved on a lot, but I share your concern about how the electronic kit would survive in a cultivator's dusty or wet working conditions. From a GOM in his dotage!
Everything is so much better now, if you blocked a combine years ago the only way to clear it was manually and boy, what a filthy job that was. taught you to go a bit steadier.
Thanks Andrew for another comprehensive video, I hope your efforts in producing this video, didn't detract you from enjoying the lamma event yourself Cracking update as always Back UK Farmer's 🇬🇧 Geoff
What a fantastic video that was the machines look so big expensive compared to what I used in the eighties and those seats unreal for comfort when you had done 12 hours on a Massey Ferguson 185 flexi cab 3 furrow reversible plough no heater no radio and you looked at the plough behind you and thought job well done no GPS in those days lol but times changed thanks the retired farmer
Hi Andrew, without doubt the best video of Lamma I've seen, showing what i wanted to see, and what I've missed by not attending. P.S I've never sat in or driven a Porsche 911, but i know from what I've read about them their one of the best drivers cars you can buy . Great video .
What a great video Andrew very interesting seeing Lamma you explained it very well Great seeing Sammy she’s a lovely girl I love the accent I’ve been Lamma once what a fantastic show of machines Great seeing all the latest combines and Tractors I honestly think you’ve to be. a multi millionaire to pay for these very expensive machines Andrew thanks again for a super video
Andrew, as usual brilliant sum up of the show! Would have loved to go but, health denies such treats! Your insights into different equipment is such a must see approach, makes what needs and should be seen easier to follow up. Thanks. Looking forward to the mid week update, with more info! I just wish I could go round with you, it would be really instructive, and enjoyable!!!! Thanks for all you do on these occasions helps us who can't get there se what is interesting. Oh btw, about the blackgrass problem, did see one M/c that could help, primary problem, speed of travel. The Ex Seed autonomous tractor would be ideal for the laser weed killer, speed : something like 0.5 Kph! Does /did a good job, but, at that speed?
The Zurn machine would work better you feel if you cut ahead of the towing vehicle and fed the weed seed to a rear collector. This would also have a benefit in that the driver could observe prior to cut. It seems you would also need narrow wheels for the towing tractor. They have the basic technology it seems but could possibly improve it by rearrangement with the cutter being forward mounted the weight being born by the front axle counter balanced by the hopper at the back with presumably a covered track in between.
A good friend of mine runs two of these machines within his contracting business. Yes the pulling tractors run on narrow wheels as well. From what I understand running the cutter reel/bar in front of the tractor would not work for a number of reasons. 1) It would involve a complete redesign of the machine. 2) Being so far forward you would lose the visibility which is critical to maintain the right height of the cutter bar just above the heads of the crop. The operator is constantly adjusting the height getting the cutter bar as low as it will go to take Blackgrass, Ryegrass, Wild Oates heads off but not the crop heads. The visibility is much better with the cutter bar just behind the tractor cab. Obviously the tractor is on auto-steer so the operator can look at the Zurn machine working. 3) Can you imagine how far out in front of the tractor that machine would strick out! It would make it very difficult pulling out of fields and probably going in as well. I hope that helps explain thing so you have a better understanding. Th machine in its curent set up can't be that bad as the contractor operating them gets repeat business 🙂.
I would be interested to look at a bad field every year, for 3 or 4 years to see the progression and not lose any yield through wheelings and cutting tops of ears off. With blackgrass needing 98% control to stand still, i still have my doubts if better than that can be achieved but im always willing to be proved wrong.
I watched a viseo of the top cut working. It was a breezy day and I could see a lot of the seeds falling or blowing out of the cutting head....however, I can see the organic sector benefitting from it.
One observation is that the hopper seems to be uncovered. Surely it should be closed with a filter, like a vacuum cleaner? It’s like having a vacuum cleaner with an exposed dust collector with all the dust free to blow about?
There’s a lot of money in running those prize draws. A friend has family who run one of the more successful car sites and the returns are huge for the company. It’s still gambling and that’s not necessarily something to promote because some people, lonely and down on their luck can be pretty receptive/vulnerable to this sort of thing.
The TR twin rotor made in America came out 50 years ago and the European market got the TF twin flow, the TR one the race and became CR C for combine and R for rotary.
Because of the video on the stand showing airflow and me having experience of both plastic and metal. The beauty of TH-cam is you can fast forward if not interested in something. 👍
Tf is a different combine the TR model was never sold in the UK but was available in America maybe even Australia it was not deemed suitable for damper uk conditions
Very sad to see Alister working for Maschio. I worked with him on his farm in Grimsthorpe. I don't know what happened to cause his demise but I had hoped he moved on to another farm. A shame he clearly didn't, but I bet Maschio pay better than farming, and he looks healthy at least. Really nice guy I had/have a lot of respect for
Cant see the Zurn machine being any where near effective Andrew. Weeds inside the crop, windy conditions etc. Weeds missed, they say 1 year weed, 7 years seed !.
@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard Could you contact Zurn and maybe do a collaboration or something? I would love to see the impact on a 100% contaminated feild vs. a lightly (what you might colour amber) feild. I think it would be a waste of time on anything less than a sordid mess of blackgrass, but with so many heads lying beneath the crop it's hard to imagine how this could impact even the worst feilds
I was talking to Victoria for 15 mins before Jezza arrived and I talk to her regularly as she’s one of my local MP’s and is helping us with the budget issues.
Sorry Wardy but to say Valtra is a good tractor - never sat in one, never driven one ........... how can you make comment and it puts everything else you say in question ....... please - i have never eaten New Zealand Beef and never seen any but i would never say it was good!!!
It could be that Andrew has heard a lot of opinions of real world usage from actual owners and operators. I mean, he does get about. I've never used a Husqvana chainsaw, but I know they are a good manufacturer. Does that make my opinion invalid too?
My brother in law has one, Olly has one, Charlotte and Roy have one, lots of people I know have one, they all speak highly of them. I never have and never will say someone is good or bad without knowledge, either personal or others.

Hadn't realised you hadn't met Sammy, such in infectious bubbly character. Just love her Irish accent. Lamma looked very busy.
More than just her accent to like …!!

Great video Andrew , will agree I can't see how that weed machine is going to work on black grass.

Cracking update again Andrew. There’s a lot going on at LAMMA isn’t there it’s a full on day. Your a lucky boy meeting sammy I’d love to meet her 😂😂
