  • This is a comprehensive review of the Apex Practitioner microscope which I use to scrape my koi for parasites. The review includes the purchase process from the cheapest source as of October 2020, unboxing, overview of the scope and a test of both the optical lenses and the additional minigrab usb camera attachment.
    I find this scope to be perfect for the koi hobbyist as it is solid, well built, easy to use and the performance is excellent.

    I’ve got the same scope. Great bit of kit.
    I’ll look forward to seeing the scrape video.

      Hi Gary. They are really good and the price is excellent given the quality. I've seen a lot worse for a lot more money. I need to get on to the scrape video, hopefully do it over the Christmas break👍

      Hi Philip, yes I'm still really happy with it. I had an outbreak of flukes a few weeks ago so I got to use it properly and it did a great job. Hopefully I never have to get it out of the cupboard again though 😁

      @@DazzleKoi I think we all had a bad time with flukes this year but at least we know what to treat

    Loving your videos, massive help to me.
    Can I ask how much concrete should I use in my base,
    My pond will be 9.6 x 5 x 5 foot thank you

      Hi Rex, good to here that, thanks 👍
      I would go 6" thick for the base and either ask the concrete company to throw a hand full of fibres in or put a piece of steel mesh in the middle of the 6" thickness.
      Check my calcs but I get that to 0.7 cubic meters of concrete. Here in North West Uk that would cost around £140. They will charge for a full cube as 1 cube is usually minimum delivery with barrow mix companies so if you have a filter base or something else to go in do them at the same time.

    I have this microscope and I purchased it from this company. The customer service was excellent. I also purchased the aluminium case. Totally recommend the microscope and the company 👍🏼

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Paul. I don't have the case as I didn't think I'd need it but I do wish I'd bought one now. Because you don't use them very often (hopefully never 😁) you do need somewhere safe to store it. I think I might ask Father Christmas for one 👍

      @@DazzleKoi the only thing I didn’t like with the case was the foam was pre-cut, rather than small blocks of foam. This means there are no cut outs for other things you may want to store, like a box of slides.

      That's a shame, it would be better to be able to keep everything in the one place. Is there room to cut some extra slots myself?

    you can't beat a proper bit of kit, i got the brunel sp22 last year and can't fault it, very similar to this, I bought the camera to but defo prefer the eye piece just because the frame rate on the cameras isn't that great

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael, yes Brunel and Apex are the same company. I think Apex is a subsidiary of Brunel. The practitioner and the SP22 look pretty much the same from what I can tell.
      I agree about the camera, I really like the ability to make films and take pictures but I search the slide using the optical eyepiece and then when I find something I switch to the camera. As you say, the camera is just a bit slower to refresh.

      @@DazzleKoi The SP21 is the same as the Apex Practitioner.

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Philip, I'm pretty sure its the SP22 that's the same as the Apex practitioner. The SP21 quite a bit dearer than the Apex where the SP22 is the same price. Yeah I checked the spec, its the SP22 that's the same spec as the practitioner. Brunel don't actually list the SP21 on their website anymore so it may have been superseded.
