I loved this vlog! That first day working was so accurate...the kids home, hubby off but has an appt, Livia getting sick, needing to cook and catch up on everything...i truly appreciate how real it was.

Oh wow- in the US is paid maternity leave so short? I’m in awe at how you work from home so soon with your gorgeous baby. Here in the UK it’s a minimum 9 months paid leave- the state pays not a lot but something and your employer usually contributes for a period too. Congratulations on your lovely family 🎉

Yes, the parental leave here in the US is not that great compared to the UK or Canada. 3 months is actually the longest with 100% pay from my company which is nice. Some other places don't even offer parental leave. I could also use my vacation time to make my leave longer but I chose not to. =) My company doesn't "allow" this but they understand the need to do have them home from time to time like when childcare is closed or baby is sick at home. If it's an extended situation, of course we will need to take time -off.

@@azawmsthanks for your reply! Yes, you ladies do have a tough time with maternity leave- really unfair, I hope it changes soon. Take care.x

Sadly, some companies don’t pay at all. The government pays nothing. A lot of people try to use their vacation time or you can sign of for short term disability insurance that will pay a portion of your normal salary if you are out for medical reasons (including recovering from giving birth). Jobs are only required to give you the amount of time off recommended by the doctor to recover. Usually 6 weeks for natural birth and 8 weeks for c section. 12 weeks is considered generous, sadly

I wanted to add that most companies here in the UK will not allow us to work from home if we tell them we have a baby/toddler at home- it’s a no no! There could be exceptions maybe I’m not aware. I work for local government and it’s not allowed. If we say our child is unwell they tell us you have to take it as leave and not work. I’m pleased your employer allows this as child care is expensive. 👍
