  • The Enchiridion of Epictetus is a handbook of Stoic ethics, compiled in 135AD by Epictetus's student, Arrian.
The values espoused in the Enchiridion are the essence of Stoicism, written as a list of 52 short maxims.
These maxims outline the virtues by which Stoic philosophers should live by, and can be summed up as thus:
"What upsets people is not things themselves but their judgments about the things."
In the Enchiridion, Epictetus advises that one takes full responsibility of one's actions and disregards anything one does not have full control over.
In this way, the philosopher can never be subject to a will that is not their own.

I agree a lot with the control of oneself and not be bothered by those things that are not in our power. But a lot of this boils down to a suppression of emotion instead of an understanding that there are emotions not worth feeling and that there are places for them to be expressed. Also, a great amount of encouraging of passivity and suppression of ambition.

Once you're as deep into philosophy as Epictetus, you'll probably be a nihilist anyway. Once a man becomes so WOKE that he realizes and writes things like this down, he probably doesn't see much of a reason for amything

I huge inspiration for myself. Seeing the events of today unfold worry me, and seeing my friends retrogress into what I believe to be childish, entitled people (Mostly they are feminists), this helps me bring myself to forbear the stress of seeing my reality change to something I do not particularly enjoy. As a fifteen year old, I don't delude myself that I fully understand all the points made, but I still believe this is a great help for me in the years to come. I only wish I could get my friends and family to see things the same way. If only I could get them to give a differing opinion a chance. I simply want everyone to listen to each other's arguments and use their heads for once, rather than mindlessly parroting others and acting on their emotions rather than their objective reason. It truly feels like I'm the only one in my community who believes in such concepts, who thinks they should be upheld and respected rather than trampled in the name of potential or taken offense.
Thank you for being one of my main role models so far, Sargon. You make it clear that there is still hope for reason, and you have made a gigantic impact on my life with your videos. I look forward to all of your content, and I hope to see much more.
And a question, if I may: Any suggestions on finding ways to persuade my friends away from feminism? I don't want them to turn into the radical feminists and SJWs I see in the adult world today. I've tried pointing out fallacies in their arguments and generally debating them- Politely, I might add- But it doesn't seem to be working, and I don't want to push them away from me.

I would talk more about unity than feminism. What can women and men do differently to unite and make living in this world a better place. Talk about the good things about men and the good things about women. And if they really want to talk about feminism I would steer the convo towards women and girls overseas who are treated unfairly. The feminist fight should be waged over there more than here. What are feminist doing here to help those women over there? I would talk more on those lines.
Also you're very young and I'm assuming you're friends are too. Talk more about what your individual future holds. What you want to do when you get older, where you want to live. There is nothing individually rewarding about being a feminist. So talk about things they are doing or want to do. Not the plight of gender inequality.

I dont if this helps... but feminists are all about equality between men and women right? So next time they are in a extraordinary situation...say like the Titanic.... when the they load the life boats and say women and children first....What would she do? Stay on board with the men and be equal? Or get on the boat and be a hypocrite?

#22 at 16:03 is something I see with frequency today in casual conversation, and youtube comments as well. People seem to respect when others stand up for the principles they believe in, even if those principles seem outlandish or unpopular. But this doesn't seem to be the norm when those beliefs directly counter your own. Say with a very contentious subject like abortion, you have people who hold very firm, opposing beliefs that will probably never change no matter how many debates are held on the subject. I don't think others' dedication to their principles is admired here.
I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say. Just noting that sometimes people respect those who stick to their guns, and sometimes they don't.

From 13:30 to 13:59, Epictetus says we should all play the roles that are assigned to us. He says the choice for this role is in the hands of "another." I'm guessing he means the gods. But he's said several times up to this point in the video/book, that if one desires to be free, they should not allow others - who are not worthy of the power - to have control over their mentality.
Perhaps he says so later in the video, I've not watched it yet, but my question now is: How does he reconcile these two beliefs? Would he say that the gods are deserving to have the power to decide for you what your life ought to be, and what your emotional responses ought to be? Would he say that no man is free, because of the power the gods or nature has over us?

Sargon, have you learned anything big from your study of ancient texts and whatnot?
You seem "red pilled" to me, you're an intellectual, put it that way.
Are religions methods of population control? I think they are.
Are Russia the good guys or are they controlled opposition as well?
I know these questions are irrelevant in regard to your video, I'm just interested in your core beliefs.
    I have a few core beliefs that I've learned and pondered myself and therefore cant be dogma, I'll list a few;
Karma doesn't exist, people take their problems out on others, usually the innocent. Children are sometimes killed before they can even speak.
The majority of people are motivated by three things; fear, validation from their peers and desire.
    Human personality is environmentally determined.
The majority of people will believe or disbelieve what they want regardless of what's right. Confirmation bias leads them to believe what they feel more comfortable hearing. Cognitive dissonance leads them ridicule and disbelieve whatever they don't like. The truth hurts as they say....
I like to type things like this into a notepad file as I'm very forgetful. I have other thoughts that I've left out, things that would be classed as conspiratorial I guess.

Irony. Religion is not a method of population control, or else Christians would have burned incense to Caesar when commanded; but the idea that religion is a method of population control is an idea that removes the sword and shield of religion, leaving people naked before the power of the state, a Marxist idea, hence is the real method of population control.

I don’t agree with a lot of this.
When he talks about some things which usually happen, that doesn’t make them things that ought to happen. He talked about theft at the baths and people mocking someone who started off into philosophy. We shouldn’t accept them. And if anything you know these people mustn’t do them. You end up with thinikk in g it’s normal for you to do them. Some people ended up like that.
