In my senior year of high school, we sung this for my women's choir. All of us LOVED singing this song and it was our strongest piece out of the entire concert. Heck, some of us even cried.
Craig came to our school here in Leander, Texas and cliniced us on our UIL songs...this being one of our songs:) and we got straiht ones, love you Craig!!
My teacher is in the group Conspirari and she learned this from her teacher, CHJ. It's such an amazing piece, and I really want to cry every time I hear it. I'm honored to be singing it for the Spring Concert, and it shall forever be my favorite song.
Two of the most extraordinary talents of Craig Hella Johnson are 1.) eliciting a perfection of choral sound and balance with technique so flawless, only beauty is experienced; and 2.) arranging and intertwining musical accompaniments that not only embrace the the moment but also seamlessly transport us from one emotional plane to another (most especially noted in the Christmas concerts).
Craig is one of my favorite composers. During college our choral director frequently had us perform pieces he had composed (she's also in Conspirare). I'm so glad I was introduced to his music - and this piece is one of my favorites of his!
There are very few pieces and performers that can make me feel peace to the foundations of existance....and that's what this is doing for me. Thank you sir.
Of all poets, Emily Dickinson is one of the most frequently set to music. Google "Emily Dickinson set to music" for other scores. Also recmusic dot org will give you a history of the many publications of this poem's musical settings. The tradition of singing poetry dates to the 4th c. B.C. and has never been labeled "stealing."
Simplicity is beauty. If the world had simplicity, it would cease to be a place where people have lost their way on the ways of their complex lives. If you fail to see it, it only shows your lack of wisdom.
Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this? I am singing it in my senior recital, and need the solo version. All I can find is the SA version.
@WorldCupSeoul perhaps you're unable to appreciate such "simple" music. How exactly is it a copy-cat melody? I would like to hear your opinion better explained because it currently looks more like rantings of someone who cannot really appreciate simple, well-written choral music. Do elaborate on it so I can better understand why you think his music is so terrible.
Craig Hella Johnson you have it all--composer, pianist, singer, choir director and more!!!! Conspirare is the best!!
Savoring this on such a morning as our nation begins to heal.
I was lucky enough to sing in his choir at LSM. I wish I still had the tapes. I'm so glad to hear him sing again.
Craig’s voice w Emily Dickinson’s words - magical combination ❤️ - and the cellist is sublime 🎶 “and joy will come in the morning” (Ps 30) ☀️🌈
Just too beautiful to comment further. My tears sum it up perfectly.
the woman in the blue scarf thing was my choir teacher in high school. Sonja Tangblad, so nice, almost always cheerful. Love Conspirare

Absolutely beautiful! What a gorgeous voice... and a lovely setting of this melancholy, dreamy poem.

I keep coming back to this piece. Perfectly crafted, exquisitely performed. Gets me every time.

I have to sing this score for my choir and I'm soprano 1
emily dickinson should really get some credit for this - it's her poem after all.

@andi92992 they're singing some harmonies too, though you can barely hear them.

@@momentumPR Thank you so much!!
If you got a reply, would you mind sharing the answer? It looks like it was deleted. I’d love to know how to get this version!
Diluting and haunting.
Is there an arrangement for this anywhere?
Alliance Music Publications
I think this poem is sarcastic and a little bit bitter, but also shows humor.
@brittness2467 Congrats on making it in, that's an accomplishment. Though it's spelled "Conspirare."
@TreeFrog897
nina revering is my voice teacher.
Lilting not diluting.

Emily Dickinson died in 1886. I'm pretty sure Craig did not steal this from her.
will there really be a morning?... no... no :((
