    These are awesome units. My parents had one of these in their bedroom when I was growing up and it still runs to this day. I remember how quiet and smooth running the unit was.

    If I'm not mistaken, these models were manufactured here in Brazil and exported there. This model is extremely common here, but they were black (there are some white ones but they are very rare) and used an alternative compressor. Their name was springer mundial. th-cam.com/video/2Qzi3jeG1PM/w-d-xo.html
    A video of it working.

    I hate when people don't take care of their air conditioners. Luckily there's still some other people who take care of their air conditioners

    I grew up with one of these at my neighbors house! They were dual installed next to one another in two separate bedrooms on the second floor however they were installed in the wall through the siding on the dormer! Very cool to learn what they were actually called model wise!

    • @GabrielZuc
      @GabrielZuc ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in Brazil they are only installed on the wall. They are rarely placed in the window.

    You are completely right about the drain hole they don't need the water or central airconditoiners wouldn't drain out of a pipe away from the unit

    • @JordanU

      This is 8,400 BTU, the Frigidaire is 25,000.....

    I have always liked it when air conditioners have their logo rally big on the back of them. Like you said, they are all about the same abysmal quality now, so they don't even bother.
    The only company I think still does the large emblem on the back is Friedrich. Although I am not sure if they still do, they did up until very recently.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Me too, it was a good display of pride in the product. All gone now.
      Friedrich seemed to make really good stuff up until a few years ago, now it's just overpriced.

    I also have a 1980s carrier international that has the silver front grille. Has the auto swing louvers. Still runs like a champ. Wish they still made them like this.

      Indeed, it really is getting quite scarce to find these machines in good condition still. This is the second one like this so far, looks like it may be a good cooling season this year!

    Nice older unit. Carrier units weren't as popular as Fedders, Airtemp, EQK and Friedrich back when this was made. Although, I never liked the side discharge units no matter who made them. In any case, ACs from this era were some of the best designed units. Glad its in good hands instead of being tossed because its "inefficient". Nothing made today will ever compare to the older, "inefficient" units.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the side discharge design, it seems to push the air further away from the unit and create more even temperature in the room.

    I had a fond memories of one of these installed through the wall in a duplex over hinging into the screened porch. That unit looked mint on the outside and had the big emblem on the back. That unit had a straight stream of condensate poring out of it, there was a bucket under it to catch the condensate what was recycled to water plants. I always loved the grill on these and hopefully you install it somewhere.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's neat. This will probably be in the kitchen for a while.

    The first step in the checkout process is to visually inspect the unit for any damage or signs of wear and tear. The lack of rust on this machine is a good indication that it has been well-maintained and cared for. Next, we need to test the compressor to ensure it is running smoothly and producing cold air. We will also check the refrigerant levels to ensure they are within the manufacturer's specifications.
    To begin, we will turn on the unit and listen to the compressor for any unusual noises or vibrations. If there are any issues with the compressor, it may need to be replaced or repaired. Fortunately, in this case, it runs smoothly and quietly.
    Next, we will use a refrigerant gauge to check the refrigerant levels. The Carrier UCD081B requires R-22 refrigerant. We will connect the gauge to the service port on the compressor and observe the pressure readings. If the pressure readings are too high or too low, we may need to add more refrigerant or remove some, depending on the situation. However, in this case, the pressure readings are within the normal range, indicating that there is no need to add or remove refrigerant.
    Finally, we will test the unit's cooling performance by measuring the temperature of the air coming out of the unit. We will use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the air at the vent and compare it to the ambient temperature of the room. If the temperature difference is within the manufacturer's specifications, we can be confident that the unit is working correctly.
    In conclusion, the checkout of this Carrier air conditioner model UCD081B went smoothly thanks to the presence of the drain hole that has helped to preserve the unit's condition. The unit still has a full charge of R-22 refrigerant, which has allowed it to cool flawlessly for the past 27 years. Overall, this is a well-maintained unit that should continue to provide reliable cooling for many years to come.
