You might be interested to know that Derek Jacobi came to Loches to find a trace of his ancestor Joseph de la Plaigne who was imprisoned here for being a protestant. It was during the shooting for the television programme 'Who Do You Think You Are ?' Luckily for Derek Jacobi, his ancestor apparently managed to buy his way out of the prison and make a getaway to England. Even though he was quite advanced in years, Joseph set up business and founded a family in the Huguenot quarter of London. In the Royal Appartments you can visit the personal chapel and lodgings of Anne de Bretagne, which have recently been restored. Another very pretty nearby village which is well worth visiting when the roses are in bloom is Chédigny. The former parish priest's house is now a restaurant where you can have a meal or have tea on la terrasse at the back overlooking the garden.

Hi franc 91, that's facinating and is news to me, I'll have to watch that program, I've always liked Derek Jacobi since "I Claudius". We actually managed to miss the Royal Palace would you believe, we had no guide books that day, but managed to visit most other notable sites. We really enjoyed Loches it was a wonderful experience and will certainly visit Chédigny next time. Thank you for your comment it's very much appreciated.
