The new anti-war film from Ludwig Bachmann and Adrian Martin tells the story of soldier Rudolf Hofer (played by Tristan Hebestreit) who must head back to the front after a period of leave. The last chapter of the Second World War has begun and Red Army push into German territory. Rudolf is deployed to Silesia for the defence of Breslau and quickly finds himself again in the senseless confusion of a hopeless war that is coming to an end.

Meinen allerhöchsten Respekt! Wer mit so wenig Mitteln so einen Film auf die Beine stellen kann, Hut ab. Die sinnlosen Durchhalteparolen und das Abschlachten von Alten und Kindern gibt der Film sehr gut wieder!
Ich hoffe wir kommen nie wieder in so eine Situation.

Hollywood: Zwei, drei Explosionen und ein paar Schüsse. ParaLight WorX: Eine Geschichte dahinter jeder einzelne Schuss, jede einzelne Explosion ergibt Sinn und verfeinert den Film ins Detail. Es gibt so viele Ausschmücken und man merkt es steckt echte Kunst dahinter. Ich ziehe meinen Hut vor euch und eurer Arbeit.

My German grandfather went missing after the large Silesian city of Breslau was surrounded by the Red Army in 1945. There was no notification of his death, he just vanished into history, another forgotten statistic in that terrible war. He was the last surviving member of his engineer unit. My grandmother emigrated to America, never knowing what became of him. All she had left were photographs of him, his diary from 1941-1944, his letters to her and his little girl and a cardboard box containing his military decorations. There was one particular photograph containing him & all the members of his engineering platoon that was taken in Smolensk, Russia (date unknown, but probably 1941), not one of them survived the war. In that photograph was a pretty little Russian girl of about 14-17 with a sad expression, she was staring at members of the unit, almost as if she knew what their fate would be. I always wondered what happened to that girl. My grandmother believed she was a captured Russian nursing student he had written to her about. She had survived the butchery of the twin battles of Vyazma-Branysk in October 1941, in which 665,000 Russians were captured & hundreds of thousands more were killed. Grandfather had written about her calling her our sweet little Russian baby angel because of how many Russian & German lives she saved while working in a nearby field hospital. She had the option of being released because of her age, but she chose to stay & work with the German doctors who were at that time, overwhelmed with thousands of causalities. Grandfather's unit & the German nursing sisters at the hospital were extremely protective of this little girl, making sure she had a safe place to stay & enough to eat. She basically became a part of their divisional staff & was often invited to the officer's mess to make sure she was getting enough to eat (she would often share her food with Russian patients) . I hope she, at least survived the carnage of that war, she certainly deserved to, (the NKVD was not kind to Russian "collaborators" no matter how many Russian lives they saved & what their age) and if she did, what a story she could tell us. I've done some small research in trying to track her down, if she's still alive but so far, nothing. I have what I believe is her full Russian name & place of birth, but translating Russian names from old German letters is problematic to say the least. Germans at that time always seemed to want to Germanize Russian names & places.

Man spielt Battlefield 5 und Hearts of Iron, man schaut Dokus über Dokus aber erst durch so Filme wird einem die Realität des Krieges bewusst. Ich weiß nicht was ich sagen soll und brach in Tränen aus, aber dieser Film ist so unfassbar gut
Ich kann dir bei Spielen nur Red Orchestra 2 empfehlen oder Verdun dann weißt du ungefähr wie es war im Krieg aber natürlich kommen Spiele nicht an die grausame Wirklichkeit heran

der Krieg war um einiges Blutiger als hier dargestellt. Ich denke das Budge hat nicht mehr hergegeben, dennoch extrem Einfühlsam. Wer nach Waffen schreit, soll gefälligst selbst an die Front.
Glaube ich das Hauptziel dieser Serien ist uns zu ermutigen niemals Krieg zu unterstützen. Tolle Arbeit.

Hardly. Lead actor and a few of the supporting cast are fine, rest are amateurs and it shows. Not much story here, viewer's only concern is that main character survives, the film works well at this length but could not be extended even another 15 minutes. Camera work and staging is solid, but gorgeous snowy landscape is doing most of the heavy lifting.
Sorry, but HUGE difference in skill (by entire film crew) is required to make feature length films versus 1/2 hour shorts.

Well, it's not that hard to teach someone how to say one simple phrase in a foreign language but I agree - saw many films where Russians/Chinese/Germans/anyone who's not an English speaker speak gibberish with a few real words in it.

Ihr seit ja blöd. Man hat den Kindern vom Volkssturm nicht mal in der schlimmsten Notsituation eine Panzerfaust in die Hand gedrückt da erstens an jeder Front viel zu wenig dafin da war und zweitens diese Hosenscheißer nicht mit umgehen können (Historischer Hintergrund is da).

Can’t even describe how the detail in this is outstanding. The child being the only one to return the Hitler salute at 9:28 as he’s likely been in the Hitler youth. Brilliant. The Volksturm uniforms in general very cool. Well done. As everyone in the comments is saying, this far surpasses Hollywood
The Volksturm uniforms are easy to be outstanding, as there wasn't any regulation in this field, except thé armband, most people wearing civilian clothes. But as far as the soldiers are concerned, there would be a lot to say... A 1936 Felbluse on a trooper in 1945, why not, but really not very representative, like the jackboots, too many of them can be seen. They were since long fairly rare then, but to tell the truth, it's a mistake often seen in the movies, even the most famous. We're supposed to be in 1945, not in 1940-41 ! And these Volksturm guys use too many soviet weapons, too. Again, why not, as they used almost everything that could be fired, but...

Definitiv mein Lieblingskurzfilm über den 2. Weltkrieg. Einfach großartig gemacht, mit viel Hingabe und historisch realistisch und richtig dargestellt.
Historisch realistisch, aha! Sorry, ein Traktor aus den 50ern mit Überrollbügel aus den 70ern und neue Kennzeichen - wohl eher nicht. Diese Szene hätte man sich verkneifen sollen. Ein Pferdefuhrwerk wäre realistischer gewesen.
@@Hannibu Ich bezweifle, dass zu diesem Zeitpunkt private Bauern etc. noch ihre Pferde gehabt hätten. Die wären sicherlich schon von der Wehrmacht einbezogen worden bzw. wäre es schwer gewesen, Pferde und Vieh privat zu ernähren und zu halten.

I like how you don’t make it seem that all Germans were good, but also don’t show that all Germans were bad people. You also capture the horrors of war, you make it so that you can never know who dies and who doesn’t. Because true war is unexpected, you never know what’s next, whether you will die or live, whether you lose or win, whether your friends will be there tommorrow, that is one of the horrors of war that you show remarkably. Never stop among these vids. I’m a true supporter!

Man muss schon sagen: sehr authentische Darstellung, großes Lob an euch!
Authentisch? Da ist nix authentisch! Nicht mal das "EU-Kennzeichen" hat man vom Anhänger demontiert. Die Szenen der Schlacht waren genauso schlecht durchdacht. Die Auswahl der Stellungen wie auf dem Präsentierteller, keinerlei Tarnung. Die PAK auf nen Berg gestellt, und den Rest der Truppen in den Kessel gesetzt. Maschinengewehre stellt man nicht an die Front, sondern an die Flanke! Wer sich das ausgedacht hat, hatte von militärischer Strategie mal gar keine Ahnung. Die Krönung folgte am Ende... "Lauf, ich geb dir Deckung!"... Steht auf und geht in den Freitot... Tolle Deckung! Leute, nen paar Komparsen nen paar Wehrmachtuniformen anziehen, macht noch keinen guten Film! Da muss mehr kommen, und das hat auch nix mit dem Budget zu tun.
Ihr übertrefft euch jedes mal, danke dass ihr euch so viel mühe gebt
Der Herr Untersturmführer sieht 1 zu 1 aus wie mein letzter Zugführer und hat genau die selbe Ausstrahlung wirklich gut gespielt 👍

A moving piece of film! One of the best of the contemporary German war shorts. A stand-out feature of this film, and the genre overall, is portrayal of mood. It's a heavy, disturbing, dangerous, and pervasive mood, evoking war's deadly presence.

Ich habe mir jetzt diesen Film angeschaut und gestern "Verstaubt sind die Gesichter". Und ich bin sprachlos und schwer beeinduckt und berührt. Selten wurde das Grauen und die Sinnlosigkeit des Krieges zu intensiv und ohne jeglichen Pathos dargestellt...

Люди стали заложниками ситуации, которую допустили большие политики. Немецкий народ конечно пострадал, но пострадал заслуженно, две мировые войны развязали немцы и последствия были катастрофические. Молодежь должна знать об этом и не повторять ошибок своих предков.

I am from Kazakhstan and my grandfather git drafted in 1942 at age 20 and visited Berlin as a troop in 1945 and returned home in 1946. I wish I had seen him. He passed away when i 2002 when I was 2 y.o

He is not going to look in a mirror and brush his teeth, make sure his boots are polished and his uniform is spot on, nor is he going to spend time adjusting his helmet while he has bigger problems to be focusing on. This is a budget movie you seriously can't expect them to get every single little detail right. Overall it is a good short movie.

Ich muss eueren Film immer und immer wieder anschauen und jedesmal beginne ich zu weinen.. Vielen lieben Dank, für die ,,humane" Seite des Krieges. Das Zusammenleben der Soldaten, wie es laut Erzählungen passieren hat können.

Richtig geil gemacht. Sind viele gute Szenen dabei. Das Einzige was ihr noch verbessern könntet ist der Rückstoß von den Waffen, teilweise wirken die Schüsse etwas unrealistisch. Sehr gute Arbeit ! :)

Definitiv mein Favorit von all euren Filmen. Von sowas würde ich gerne mehr sehen.
Der Untersturmführer war auch ein klasse Schauspieler. Vielleicht noch frühere Kämpfe/Einsätze von ihm verfilmen?

Naja, realistisch ist was anderes. Der Traktor ist ein Eicher, Baujahr Anfang/Mitte der 50er. Der Fritzmeier Überrollbügel dürfte sogar aus den 70er stammen.
Zu dieser Zeit war ohnehin Kraftstoff rationiert bzw. dem Militär vorbehalten. Traktoren, so sie denn überhaupt noch einsatzfähig waren, fuhren als Holzgaser.
Die Szene hätte man sich sparen oder eben ein Pferdefuhrwerk organisieren sollen (wäre realistischer).

Ich finde in euren filmen immer wieder Szenen wie sie von Veteranen authentisch berichtet wurden.
Nicht unbedingt nur in den Kampfszenen Nein auch in heimat und Stimmung im Volk.

Toll gemacht. Schmerzhaft, bedrückend, beklemmend, düster, traurig. Es ist für mich interessant mal deutsche Charaktere des 2.WK "kennenzulernen". Nicht einfach nur deutsche Tontauben aus der Sicht der Siegermächte.
Einfach Wunderschön wie die Leidenschaft und der Schrecken des Krieges hier dargestellt wurden. Ich war ja zu Beginn skeptisch, doch dies hat sich schnell erledigt. Und das Ende war einfach Herzergreifend

Vet died because the boy (probably from Hitlerjugend) couldn't handle his excitment. Also Vet was forced to go fight once more, I think he spend most of the war in house, Trying to not forget the names of his fallen friends. I don't think he joined the volksturmm because his love for Hitler.
