I know you guys have probably never heard Dinah Washington, but make sure you hear her "This Bitter Earth" and get the original version. Etta was a fan of hers. Etta got down to the grit of this song.
Janis Joplin LOVED Etta James, you can soo see the influence she had on Janis.
That part when she bent forward froze her gaze at someone for like 2 full seconds with that look on her face…. I imagine her making eye contact with that young black woman in the audience that was toward the beginning of the video watching Etta like she was studying her with hope, and I picture Etta looking square into her eyes like saying, “You can do this too!”
I think that girl did end up becoming a famous singer. I’m gonna look it up then edit this with what I find out.
