- Dr. Carrie Gress gives the sixth talk titled "Mary Coredemptrix: The Heart of Our Mother" at the Marian Coredemption symposium at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse, WI in 2018 on how Mary's role as Coredemptrix and her Motherly, Virginal Heart is a remedy to the Antimarian spirit in the world today promoted by feminists that is against motherhood and virginal purity. She keys off the idea that Mary is the New Eve who works with Christ the New Adam in a unique way to redeem mankind from the fall of the first Adam. As such, if there is an Antichrist coming and many precursors to him, then it follows there is also an Antimary with many precursors who promote a spirit opposed to the Virgin Mother. Dr. Gress gives a summary of such Antimarys in the past and in our times.

Wow. I felt literally sick. Thank you for opening my eyes. 🙏🏼💞
Wow! Dr Carrie this is some serious research you did! thank you!!!
Life changing woman right here.
Thank you Dr. Gress for explaining some things about feminist movement I have always wondered about. I was a teen in the sixties and watched this all unfold, and was also influenced by the culture as I had no real formation in any faith, accept a short time in a psuedo Christian cult. It seemed even then that the rights women were fighting for were really exploitative of women. I mean who aspires to prostitution, or to sleeping around, rather than a solid healthy relationship, or to killing your own progeny. It was a confusing and horrible time in many ways. Because of this talk, I have a more open heart toward Our Mother as the antidote in our times. As a convert to Catholicism, I have had a difficulty embracing Mary, yet I have a shocked reaction to the hatred I see expressed in our culture towards her. I think that decades of antiMarian propaganda have made it so difficult to overcome this prejudice that I sense within me. Please pray for me and other women who struggle with this:)
Fabulous video! Brilliant woman! Thank you!
I have not finished watching this wonderful lady speak. Amazing talk. Ave Maria
Just finished watching this video. God bless Dr. Carrie, Keep it up, how the world hungers for this truth. As scripture says, "The Lord feeds the hungry with good things" Luke 1:53
Thank you, this talk touched my heart. God bless you!
I am a great sinner. I had my conversion at 50 years old. Late in the game. I had six children. Bad marriages. All i ever cared about was being a good mother. I feel i was really unsupported by society & family & even some friends & husbands. It didn't look good to have three children with one man. Two children with another ... Then one more child with a third man. Talk about embarrassing! All i knew was i couldn't kill my baby's no matter how bad i looked to the world. & That was suggested to me believe it! Yaaaay! More to love. I used the rythem method but not very successfully obviously. I love my children & I'm so grateful i have them. They are each a great gift.
It's absolutely amazing that Paul and Peter and John and all of the writers of the New Testament knew nothing of Mary being co redeemer, etc.,
Jesus is the Savior, not his human mother.
You are absolutely correct!
The whole idea of Mary being called "Co-redemptrix" has to do with what the word means when broken down. "Co" comes from the Latin word 'cum' which means "with". "Redemptrix" can be broken down into its suffix and the word "redeem", which comes from a Latin word meaning "to buy back". The suffix just refers to a woman. So, it literally means 'the woman with the redeemer'.
Now, about the New Testament writers not writing anything about Mary under this title. There are a couple passages I can mention: the wedding at Cana, and the Crucifixion. First, the wedding at Cana. I'll place a quote here from John 2:3-5: "When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”"
Jesus performed his first miracle at his mother's behest. You might be thinking "but he called her 'woman', clearly he doesn't have a very high regard for her." I would this in response: Look at the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3. Adam and Eve fall, and when God speaks to them, Adam says (this will be a paraphrase) "the woman, whom you gave me, gave to me the fruit and I ate" Then afterwards he speaks to Eve, she blames the Serpent, then God gives his curse to the serpent. In the midst of said curse he says: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed". Notice he says, "the woman".
The connection I am making here is reference to Mary as the "New Eve". This is a title that goes back to the Second Century with a man named Irenaeus of Lyons. He wrote that just as Eve mediated the sin of Adam by taking the fruit of the tree and giving to him, Mary as the New Eve willingly offers the fruit of her womb (Jesus) back onto a tree (the cross). So, Jesus calling his mother 'woman' is a reference to Mary as the New Eve. Maybe you're still not convinced. Fair enough, I'm not expecting to convince you, merely attempting to share with you. Consider the commandments. In particular "Honor thy father and mother". Christ himself said in Matthew 5:17 "Do not think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them". Jesus Christ would have honored his mother more than any other person to have ever lived because he is perfect, and he came to fulfill the law.
I Know this is a lot of reading, but I hope you will still read it.
Onto the next point: John 19. Underneath the shadow of the Cross, Jesus looked to Mary and said "woman, behold your son" then looked to "the beloved disciple" and said, "behold your mother". The Catholic Church has taken this to mean that Christ is saying this to every "beloved disciple", and not just John the Apostle. 'But every disciple is a beloved disciple'. Exactly. Mary is Mother of the Christ, so she is the mother of his mystical body, the Church.
Now, about the title itself. There are several vocabulary words that are not in Scripture. For example: Trinity, personal relationship etc. Does this mean that the word Trinity is not able to be used? Of course not! Same thing with other terms that might not show up in the Bible such as "Co-redemptrix".
Anyway, I hope you're not overwhelmed by how much I just wrote. I sincerely do not mean it in anyway as some kind of attack. I hope this comment finds you well and that you have a great day.
