So the purpose of the floating foam is to keep the air bubbles from just flying up out of the water and when they hit the foam, they spread out to benefit multiple plants before escaping. Not the worst design I've seen. Trash bags and packing/duct tape start off pretty unimpressively. Air input hole should be thin like the hose and put the bubble stone on after it's through - no need for a 3/4 inch hole big enough for the bubbler stone
