Quite the interesting yet very Lex list. Glad you were able to find some gems to enjoy this year, bud.
For me my top games are:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - This is everything I wanted Remake to be and then some. So many moments from the original game perfectly captured in 3D plus extra moments that really flesh out the characters in ways I wasn't expecting.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard - As a lover of action RPGs, I really enjoyed the gameplay shift as well as the usual Bioware style story.
Star Wars: Outlaws - For the first time I can recall in a SW game, you get to play as someone who has no connection to the Jedi or Sith. You're just a regular, run of the mill thief trying to get by and that's just neato. Aside from the stealth, I really enjoyed the gameplay as well.
Bakeru - Just a good old fashioned, really fun platformer with Japanese folklore for flavour.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - While not overall hitting as hard as some of the previous entries, this is still a solid entry for the series and, if nothing else, does a good job at ending Kiryu's story.

Loved the Bakeru demo. Plan on getting the physical some time soon.

I'm not a Star Wars fan, at all, but I am curious to try Outlaws. Seems like something I might be able to get into (especially for the reasons you listed).

@@LexMarston It's easily the most fun I've had with a Ubi game in years and I hope you enjoy it as well.

Pacific Drive looks great! I've somehow never heard of it. It looks and sounds super fun. Good list man. We had some unexpected crossover this year! Cool to see Lex getting his hack n slash on.
    I guessed your #1 right. 😁

Yeah, I telegraphed my number one game pretty hard haha.
Dragon Age just missed the list (I have it at 11 right now), so our crossover was pretty big this year. Of course, I worked more this year than I ever have before, so hack n slash was much needed for parts of the year haha

Solid list! I've still yet to play any of these mobile/gacha games that have also come out for PC/PS5/Switch. I'm aware of so many, but I don't have a clue what's even worth playing -- I was curious, though, how come you loved Persona 4, but didn't care for Persona 5?

    • @LexMarston
      @LexMarston  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I had a lot of issues with the pacing of Persona 5, whereas 4 felt like it was really well paced. I played P5 at launch, though, so maybe Royal fixed a lot of the issues I had. 4 was also my first Persona, so that also might have something to do with it. But I also appreciated the story and setting of 4 more than I did 5.
I get really into some of these gacha games for a week or two, and then inevitably something happens to make me fall off. I've actually already deleted Infinity Nikki from my PS5. I really enjoyed playing it, but the choppy performance was becoming worse and worse, and I have so many other games to play, so I had to move on for now.

@@LexMarston The one gacha game I've been interested in checking out released earlier this month, Girls' Frontline 2, it's like anime girls and XCOM, apparently? So, I may try that eventually, as I'm a fan of both of those things, and the art style actually looks really cool.
My main issue is whenever I hear "mobile" or "gacha", my mind immediately associates it with negative traits, and as I haven't experienced any mobile games in a long time, I think I subconsciously just assume that you have to pay gobs of money to actually enjoy those kinds of games. I hope I'm wrong about that.
About Persona, my introduction to the series was P5Royal, and I'm sure that plays into why I like it as much as I do, but I've played P5R + P4G and I really loved both, but I favored P5R so I was curious as to your reasoning. I've really been trying to get to Persona 3 Reload in my backlog, but I just haven't found the time yet!

@@veespa_ That actually sounds pretty incredible! I love XCOM, so I'll have to look into that for sure. I think we should always have a healthy cynicism with these monetized gacha games, as they're basically predatory gambling. However, if you have good self control, I find them fairly innocent, personally speaking. I would definitely hate to see the console market start to lean more into that sector, though.
Yeah, I'm definitely in the minority when it comes to my Persona 5 take haha. I just kind of felt like the main story was too repetitive with the palaces and whatnot, but honestly, P4 could have been the same way and I just have fonder memories of it. I still bust out a "EVERY DAY'S GREAT AT YOUR JUNES" every once in a while. I did really enjoy the first 40 hours or so of P5, but it just got to be a chore for me to finish, and a lot of dialogue was repeated in the original version. Like, the group would meet in person to have a conversation, and then you'd go home just for someone to text you about the same thing you just talked about. It was hard to keep focus after a while. No doubt it's a great RPG, though. I would definitely play a Persona 6 without question.

@@LexMarston Hopefully we'll both like Girls' Frontline 2 then! I can completely understand why you'd be soured to P5 if the original was like that. Only having experience with P5R, I think I got the better end of the stick. It's a shame they do their games like that, really. Now, Falcom is trying the same thing with Ys X...
