We've got the smart key decoder... but if we don't have it on hand we would remove the cylinder from the door, taking it apart very carefully and resetting it from the inside out... Which is not ideal nor easy to do without four hands. But hey, it can be done. It's just too many small parts #lockboss
We scope em.... And we have found its far faster to snip out a key on an aluminum blank with the hand snipper instead of using a machine to make a key. We buy aluminum blanks with cut lines already printed on them. #Lockboss
Hey pj is it costs effective, too scope it ...or just carry in stock in your truck brush nickel and bronze replacements drill it get on too a new job .🌴😎
It would be interesting to hear what specifically the different generations changed. I know that Gen1 could be turned over with a screwdriver and the silly thing would then work with any key, but that was fixed in one of the succeeding generations by changing the sidebar to something squarer so the screwdriver trick stopped working. And somewhere along the lines the trick of shoving something into the rekey hole and using a Lishi was blocked. Gen 5 definitely added a 7th depth possibiliity and made depths 1-3 look the same. Prior to that, if you cut a 7 on a key and tried to program it into the lock I believe you got a depth 6 selected but it still worked on both 6 and 7 thanks to slop in the lock. I purchased one of your LTKSD LockTech tools when they came out but haven't seen a single Gen 5 in the wild yet. As always thanks for your videos. #Lockboss
I always look for the easiest method of entry such as are the windows loose which was a recent call for wellness check for the local police dept. Found a window with both latches loose. Generally I camera the lock cylinder, punch a key out with the #Rytan punch machine and open the door. $150 as my rule of pricing on that is new lock cylinder, new door handle or me carefully reading the wafers and punching a new key and moving on
I love all the different ways people work these locks in the comments. I thought I was wowed for using a Lishi or shimming and picking most of them but there are others like me and some other great ideas I’d like to try. I’d like to get a decoder cam but can’t yet justify the cost. Maybe if I win one of the #LockBoss prizes I’ll use it to splurge!
I need one of those tools. John has 2 smartkey padlocks (discontinued) that he can't find the key for and one on the Garage he changed and can't find the key. I can take the garage one apart and make it work, but not the padlocks. #Lockboss
I hardly ever seem to be able to view the livestream. It will be interesting to find out if you can still decode the gen 5 with a Lishi as before. I haven't delved into anything other than automotive yet, but I am trying to learn. Thanks to all the true #Lockbosses that share their knowledge like locksny. Someday, I might actually be a #Lockboss.
Anyone know how to buy a gen 5 lock? Does the box say gen 5 or anything? I want to practice with this new tool. We used to hate these locks but now we look forward to them as we can cut a key in less time than picking at times and give the customer a spare key. I think we may start charging more for smart key lockouts after needing yet another tool on top of the camera. #lockboss
Missed Live -- you don't allow us to read comments post show -- can you fix that? FYI I recently bought a Lock Tech Gen 5 Accessory LTKSD Kwikset (Crapset) Smartkey p/n LT-G5-123D from you all at CLK Supplies -- works great as a current #lockboss --- FYI CLK's price was the same as everyone else's, so I'd rather give you the money
I tell them destroy the kw1 and install a better lock. I don't stock or sell kw1 hardware. If they want that they end up paying mark up on big box store prices. #Lockboss
Watching another #lockboss yes look to watch now.
Great show. I didn’t realize Kwikset had come out with a 5th generation Smartkey. Thank you for the info! Congratulations to the winners!! #Lockboss
I love the continuing education we get from these weekly videos
The rekeying cradle comes in handy over and over again. #lockboss
#lockboss great info as usual!
Those SmartKey tools really do look quite neat! And Gen 5 looks pretty tricky for the 1-3 bittings. Congrats to this week's winners! #lockboss
Good show. Congrats to winners #lockboss
Great information. I recently ran into a Gen 5 lately for the first time. Eastern Oklahoma #LockBoss
#Lockboss Thanks for the info, man.
Gotta love being called out on a rekey and when ya get there all the locks are kwikset smart keys 🤗😆 Quick and easy #lockboss

hello there

Great Video! #Lockboss
I pick it or try a key that might be close to the original. #lockboss
For the Schlage stuff, I just replace since it’s unsupported.
Gotta evolve and keep up with all the improvements they keep making, to maintain that #lockboss cred! Thanks for covering this PJ 👏

Great info, thanks for keeping us all up to date 👍#lockboss
Great information #LockBoss
#Lockboss
Are they actually using depth 7 in factory bittings now? If so I guess that would also create a problem for any #Lockboss who uses tryout sets.
Great point! -PJ
Like a #Lockboss as usual! Great content PJ!!
One important thing not mentioned is the need for a key punch or clipper keys and a lishi key cutter to reduce time on target #Lockboss
#lockboss
This stuff is on about all new construction and renovations in my area having these tools is a must #Lockboss

Great information re the new Gen 5 smart key. Thanks for doing this update #Lockboss
Keeping up on tools and products helps you be a #lockboss

I'm not a Smartkey fan, you can buy a lot of M1 keys for the price of the decoder & accessory tool.
Congrats to all the #Lockboss winners!
Haha, very true! -PJ
I use a Lishi to decode and then cut a new key. Once you get the hang of dong this it's not that hard to do.#LOCKBOSS.
A #Lockboss loves a good livestream.

Great information to know. #Lockboss
Thanks for the information and congratulations to the winners. #lockboss
I gotta cool lil story about one of my keymaking adventures. Lemme know if you’re interested.
For sure! -PJ
I'll have to add the upgrade to my collection when I can #lockboss
