Well done for capturing a historic railway event at both sites Bob. I remember landore as a trainspotter when i was a teenager. Sad to see the last of the depot but good news that the Class 08 has a new home. Regards, Jeff.
It is sad Jeff, a fortune was spent on a New Depot for the IET's near to High Street Station in Swansea, then it was decided that the electrification would not go West of Cardiff...so it was decided with the withdrawal of HST's, that Landore had to be closed.....Regards...Bob
Great you were able to capture this event Bob. Its sad that Landore has now closed but good that Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway have been able to get the 08 Shunter. Thanks for sharing, Geraint
As a Shunter at Penzance we had an 08 from Swansea in the late 70s / 80s 08895 or 08641 or 08644 can’t remember which one. The first was Vacuum only, the other two were dual braked.
How wonderful, this loco was the very last to leave Landore Depot, and has since been hired back there to deal with their busy workload. Thanks for your comments.
A real beauty! Locs like this were used after the war in the Netherlands. They started my love for the railways. There is still one active at Amersfoort.
Nice one Bob. 87E was an evocative shed plate in steam days. Landore Castles were extremely rare where I lived and, as far as I can remember, could be easily spotted coming towards you, as their buffers were usually painted white or silver. Regards, Dave.
Well remembered Dave, the buffers were in fact painted White and were the trade mark of Area Manager Roy White..a wonderful and well respected man, often seen strolling around his patch in a Bowler Hat.
Very sad to see the end of an era, Bob, but at least it is going to a good home. It looks as if it has been kept in very smart condition and I hope it runs well....Mervyn
In late March 2021 the loco made an unlikely return to Landore Depot, where it would once again become the depot pilot, this time on hire to Chrysalis Rail.
Sorry Bob I missed see this video,I have been so busy....Nice addition to the L&MMR is she a runner? When we come down later in the year I wouldn't mind visiting that railway if open....Cracking video of the move......Best wishes Chris
Swansea High Street is still there, the Goods shed has long closed and was demolished, and there is now a New depot at Maliphant to service the new IET Fleet of units that have replaced the HST sets.
@@robmasterman It has been 14 years since I lived in Swansea (and the UK). Things seem to have changed somewhat. I visited in 2016 for my mum's funeral. I noticed St Helen's Rd had gone from looking downbeat to looking like al Quaeda had taken over

It certainly is Tomas, and the Railway is delighted to have it as part of their collection.

Well captured Bob. good to know that another one of these iconic locos has found a new home
Indeed Austin, with this being the last one to leave there, makes it all the more special.
When I turned 18 I got injured and biofused into a uk shunter diesel and my face looks exactly like diesel from Thomas and friends
Sorry to hear that...Thanks for watching.

The devious diesel arriving at sodor for the first time!!!

Both those boys did an excellent job as always, each one knowing exactly what had to be done, you just can't ask for more.
great video. glad the 08 has a new home.I am sure it will be looked after like a puppy

Brilliant video Bob for this movement. Shame that Landore is closing. A great addition to the fleet at LMMR. Fantastic coverage. Best wishes C&A
I captured more footage at Landore C&A, and as said in the video notes, the air was still both inside and out..all very sad.....Best wishes...Bob
Nice to see they're building up their fleet. They're collecting quite an interesting collection of stock.
Getting there slowly, and this 08 is certainly a wonderful addition.

It was painted in this livery by Landore Depot Alistair, and ironically, it is back with them on loan for a while.

Wait, why is it being shipped away?
It's not been shipped away, due to the Closure of Landore Depot in Swansea it now resides at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Heritage Centre.

It had a major overhaul in 2014, and hasn't done much work since. It needs a few parts to make it fully operational.
