  • Visit www.marmosetcare.com/ for information about common marmoset behaviour and how best to care for them in captivity.
Supported by the NC3Rs and PSGB.
Professor Hannah Buchanan-Smith of the University of Stirling leads us through a day in the life of a common marmoset in the wild. The monkeys look for food, rest and groom each other, and care for twin babies.
Footage taken at a long-term field site in Brazil by Prof Hannah Buchanan-Smith, with assistance from Ana Karinne. The site is run by Dr Maria Fátima Arruda and Prof Arrilton Araújo of the Federal University Rio Norte.
Disclaimer: Marmosets should not be kept as pets, given the difficulties of providing for their complex social and physical needs. Their use in laboratory research and testing is controversial and the ethical framework of the 3Rs - Replacement, Reduction and Refinement - must be applied if they are used.
