- Turangi, a small town in the centre of the North Island features one of the finest art and craft galleries in New Zealand. The Pihanga Artist Co operative opened Pihanga Gallery 15 years ago. There are over 20 local artists who exhibit their work in the Gallery. It is definitely worth a look when passing through Turangi on Highway 1.
