- For the Phil Woods and Hal Galper fans out there, here is a take of Nica's Dream recorded from a live radio broadcast probably late 80's, early 1990's or so. Never released to my knowledge. You can hear the musicians talking about the tune at the beginning. Phil Woods: Alto sax, Hal Galper: piano, Steve Gilmore: bass, Bill Goodwin: drums. Great solos from Phil and the underrated Hal Galper. Part 1.
I got the very same goosebumps that I get when I listen to Phil's "Cheek to Cheek" on "Live at the Showboat..." As a tenor player, this makes me want to play more alto! It gets no better than this. Hopefully this will be released. Phil is on fire! Thanks for posting!
oulalahhh, là ça joue, de la musique de la bonne, c'est trop bon ! merci, thank you .
Phil Woods at this time was so powerful super technical play with his heart and soul. I would love to play like his rhythm flowing like torrent and strong waves. So good sax sounds I wanna listen more!! He is a legend alive. Thank you to have come to Japan last year right after the big earthquake even so many musician cancelled the stages for safety reason. I am so lucky to have met you at Blue Note Tokyo then. Ultimate respect to the legend.
Thanks for uploading this. Phil was a hell of a player and a really nice man too. Boppers like him were so cool! The melody was never forgotten in his lines- like with Cannonball or James Moody, you always have a sense of the feeling in things. Galper plays so well on this too.
Excellent..
Just great (and what about the monster trio behind???)
Phil blows the most~ HG is a maniac- great cats...
It was on an alubin called "Birds of a Feather" - it was a studio recording not this live version.
Very great! I wanted to listen to the ending. I do not know the album that this version has been recorded?
Yeah....cool jazz bebop!
最高!
Wonderful treatment of a great standard. Superior jazz.
