We do have a Japanese assassin's Creed its called ghost of Tsushima
That’s a different time period. AC shadows is set in the Sengoku time period.
It is the same thing except ac shadows doesn't have mongol
Facts
What type of an excuse is that? Smh
@@deadshot9946 You do know you are playing as an Asian woman in the game as well right 😂
Ubisoft being French I’m surprised they haven’t done an Assassin’s Creed in Africa with a Zulu Warrior and the British as the Villains
As a Japanese man, im offended
This could've EASILY fitted on a DLC chapter about Yasuke and his story INSIDE the fully JAPANESE AC Shadows game.
Y cant he be the main character in ur honest opinion
💯
That's exactly what the old ubisoft would of done
Are you suggesting the game can’t be great now because of the race of the character 😂
My exact thoughts
Kotaro Fuma would've been sick, hes mysterious and an actual assassin
The lead writer (a white woman) has already been found to be following Sweet Baby on Twitter. Also the Wikipedia page for Yasuke had a bit of a war going on where a guy was constantly trying to edit Yasukes page to say that he was a full on samurai so it had to be locked. They're out in full force trying to control the narrative.
Could’ve made him DLC and had the main be a Japanese man
This would also get cancelled by the anti woke side.
Why is he a main character and not like a side historical character you meet in the story
What’s the problem with him being a main character? There’s literally nothing wrong with that 🤦♂️.
They should've made Yasuke to a side character cameo or a Sidekick to the main story while using a Japanese protagonist.
this game needs a "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie treatment.
Japanese men arent Diverse enough for a game set in feudal Japan.
Knowing Ubisoft they gonna make the Japanese man DLC now that they see the outrage 🤦🏿♂️
They could have introduced him as a supporting character.... and then get into his "back story".
Assassins creed just makes up their own stories about history so why does it have to be that way?
the anti woke movement would have lampooned that too. Any mild point towards his existence in fact, would be read as Ubisoft catering for black people only for the sake of catering.
Bayek was one of my favorite assassins and there was no fade from anyone due to race because it correlates with the region and time period.
I'm a white guy and would really like to play a cool African warrior with a spear, shield, bow etc. in an African setting even against white colonial troops. That could be awsome!
But when it's about ninjas and samurai in ancient Japan, i want to play as a Japanese!
I'm sure Ubisoft had the opportunity to take any other historical Japanese figure who'd be more interesting, but its obvious why they chose Yasuke..
Cultural appropriation, its that simple. I'd love to see an Assassins Creed set in Africa using one of their ancient warriors.
Imagine if they made an AC game that is based in African culture but the protagonist was a white man. People would lose their shit. As they should. Just like they should do with this game! It's ninjas and samurai. I'm sorry, Yusuke is the last person I think of when I hear the word samurai.
They dropped the ball with this. I’m black and I do not accept this. If they made “blade” anything other than black then there would be outrage
This would be like if they made an Assassins Creed game set in Africa and then they decided to make the main protagonist either white or Mexican. Lol
Yasuke was real, and a servant of Nobunaga. He wasn't even the main character in his own life.
It is pretty lame when you think about how all of the other AC games have a protagonist that is basically a representative of their culture and nation. It makes perfect sense for a black man to be lead in AC Origins because it's in Egypt, but Japan? WTF? Honestly because Yasuke is a historical figure, it would make sense for you to encounter him as an npc in the game, just like they would do with other historical figures in the other AC games. But as the main character it makes zero sense. But yea we all know why they do it.
Honestly Ubisoft did this move to get brownie points from Social Media. And i bet ya that the games journalists will praise this game to the high heavens, the same games journalists who gave Ghost of Tsushima hell.
I think it would've worked better if they made a spin-off/DLC with Yasuke like "Freedom Cry" in AC: Black Flag
It would be cool to see a assassin's creed set in Africa during the Mali empire. Or set in the zuzu Africa.
it would probably be pretty cool. we kind of got a mix of African and European with the Egyptian based game. I don't know if they would ever go back for Central to southern Africa since it's not as marketable a place since it's not as well known in the culture
It would get attacked too! Anything black and African these days is automatically woke.
I’ve been saying for the past few games that have stirred up controversy … People just have to NOT buy the game, the game sales will speak for itself .. Granted, certain people are going to get it: Casual people who don’t care about woke agenda, people who like Assassin Creed/Ubisoft games and game reviewers who need to make their money.. BUT to the majority of us who are tired of this propaganda, don’t buy the game .
Why is it so hard to play as an Japanese person if you are doing it in Japan? Man Ubisoft has been awful for a good 10 years and I don’t think they will change. Glad the Japanese hate this as well though
If they wanted to have Yaskue in the game they could've just made a side quest where you interact with him
Assuming this even takes place during the Sengoku Jidai.
Im okay with a historical fiction game about a samurai yasuke. But it should have been its own game, not an Assassins Creed game. Team Ninja handles Yasuke quite well imo
Yea nioh was dope when they brought the black samurai in. He was strong ASF and a great boss.
Imagine they made a white man a protagonist in a black panther game 😅
Kasper Cole was a white guy who became Black Panther in the comics, would be funny if they did it
As a black man just give me Japanese people in my Japanese themed game!!
An Assassin’s Creed set in Africa like Nigeria or Ghana or across the continent would be cool.
But they probably don’t think it would sell. ☹️
I look in the internet and there’s a whole bunch of mixed information on if he was a samurai or not. Some say he was, wiki and some other sites say he wasn’t. No idea if he actually was or not
It should have been a Yasuke DLC
This is similar to ubisoft making the female version of the character in Valhalla as the canon version, even though pretty much everyone loved the male version.
Hattori Hanzo would've been a good fit for this game. RIP Assassins Creed
the sheer f***ing hubris
And here i stopped giving a toss about the franchise since ... black flag
Whenever I saw the trailer it dawned on me I haven't finished BF and so I've been all over the game now... Smh I miss the old movements 🥲
Man this is crazy. These companies need to stop. This is getting out of hand. I bet the Japanese people are pissed. Imagine replacing Black Panther with a Japanese man. Shit is wild. 😂
I don’t feel represented Ubisoft lol
What amazes me about all of this is how people still care about assasisn creed.
Oh Joy...as an Asian man who has been wanting an AC game set in the east with Samurai i can't wait to play as a non Japanese dude wiping out a bunch of Asian people, and we all know why they added female Asian character beside him too, ugh.
And the stupid thing is that it's not even like Africa doesn't have interesting history.
The Zulu for example, they beat the British, they even used to have poison in their months while battling to spit in the enemies eyes. The Kingdom of Mali with Mansa Musa. The Kingdom of Ethiopia, the only Christian stronghold in Africa at the time, surrounded by Muslim States. It's just cringe at this point what companies are doing.
I dislike it, first because its not a Japanese person, second because its an actual historical figure.
What do I mean?
Imagine playing "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" but with king Leonidas.
It would take you out of the "magic" (so to speak) of the game.
You need an unknown character.
Yasuke is dope, But Miyamoto Musashi would of been a crazy story along with countless of other samurais who are legendary. We know why they are doing this. Its not even surprising at this point.
Its obviously a brownie points move.
Not a big deal but it is what it is.
Social media and progressive move. Show comes out on Netflix and then they do this
Every time companies do this shit it comes off as disingenuous panering to me. As a black man( I dont even like having to point it out), this shit annoys me because it feels like I'm being tossed a bone to placate me. "That'll get them on our side." That's what these companies think, and I smell the BS from a mile away. Yasuke was, at best, an interesting little footnote in the grand history of the Empire of Japan. Make him a side character, not one of the titular ones! They had so much history to pull from.
130 bucks for the Ultimate Edition? I think not Ubisoft.
I can't say how happy I am that Tyrone exposes woke bullsht.
As one who's been delving into Assassin's Creed games for some years now, I'm definitely split. On one hand, especially as an African, I want to watch more *ORIGINAL* Afro characters where/when it makes sense as the franchise's basic historical setting is based in reality, even if inspired by a real person and using a fictional story with them (like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Abraham's European but same principle).
On the other hand, yeah, this likely has some Sweet Baby rhetoric to use African presence, whether a Samurai or not, in ancient Japan for a box-check which isn't honest inclusion. It's kinda like saying "black Ariel's sisters in the remake look like the indigenous folk near the waters they are based in, so Triton getting with a black woman to make Ariel makes sense because Caribbean!"... Like, no, dummazz, she'd be Taino! At least Afro-Latina, but no, according to an interview, they went straight for non-mixed African appearance! While Africans can appear in this game, a Japanese character should be the sole playable hero of a Japan-rooted AC installment. Hero indigenous to the setting, same was done with the Europeans, should also be done with African, Polynesian, Indian, Aztec, etc.
Still like seeing Yasuke like this but still.
Everyone coming together calling this stuff out is beautiful!!
Ppl don’t realize that not everyone can be a samurai but anybody can be a retainer to a lord. Hell, a pastry baker can be a retainer but to be a samurai, one must be born in a samurai family, adopted by one or married to one. Yasuke was only a retainer and NOT a samurai
Don’t Pre Order wait for November 15,2024
I was gonna buy this…. Yeah, another AC I’m going to skip completely 💀
Should have been a ninja, he could have been the head ninja in chargem
The one Assassins Creed game I’m not buying and I’ve been a fan of the franchise since the first one with Altair.
AC2 = Takes place in Italy with Italian protag
AC3 = Takes place in America with Native American/English protag
AC Unity = Takes place in France with French protag
AC Origins = Takes place in Egypt with Egyptian protag
AC Shadows = Takes place in Japan with a black guy protag
Sweet Baby Inc detected.
Don't care about Yasuke being in the game, but would've been cool to have 2 asians as the lead protagonist.
My problem was yasuke was real but he was more of a novelty to the shogun he didn't fight or go out like that it would be dope to show him in cameos and a side mission but no mc
Me I want to as a Japanese man in assassin Creed or a Japanese woman
i dont know what school told you , what teacher told you .. believe me ,
shogun was black man
You know what's even worse about all this? the fact that the older AC games provided little historical snippets of the spots you would go to. but it seems Ubisoft want's to act like the templars (the main bads in AC) & mess with history as well.
Yasuke was never a samurai, he was a kosho... a page.... to Oda Nobunaga.
Feudal Japanese were incredibly xenophobic and considered every non-Japanese as 'lesser'
Nobunaga thought that Yasuke's color was a make up, and demanded he strip down thinking the color was just on his face and extremities.
When he saw that the color remained consistent, he then demanded Yasuke wash and scrub to see if it would come off.
This is not the behavior of someone who views Yasuke as a strong honorable individual, and who would make a noble warrior....
This is a guy saying "Holy shit, look at this black dude... he's super dark! is that paint?"
Nobunaga was literally ignorant about black folks.
Though, I would not assume it to be malicious bigotry...
...Just a dude who was blown away at seeing a Black Dude for the first time.
Yasuke was kept as a retainer simply for the novelty of it.
Don't tell the Blue hairs though... they'll blow a fucking gasket
I'm not playing the game do to the fact that the lead writer for game has pronounce in her bio. So that tells me the story is already doomed. And is gonna be told from agenda standpoint.
At least we got Ghost of Tsushima
Even in Japanese games, Yasuke was always depicted as a warrior, but I can also understand people's gripes with this. I hate that Yasuke had to get a game in these political times. Years ago I would have been hyped for this.
It’s official Ubisoft have gone woke
They just could've made this AC in Africa, but we know they won't do that. Just like how we'll never get a good Storm, Bishop or John Stewart instead of raceswaps.
Yasuke may or may not have been a samurai. we know he was a retainer of Oda, what we don't know is if Oda chose to make him samurai in spite of the fact that the nobility wouldn't probably appreciate it. but Oda does what he wants so he very easily could have. there's no documentation as far as I'm aware that's definitively states either way and it comes down to just personal belief based off of the little information available.
if you want to look more into it there's a video by metatron who goes into more depth on the subject and he did it because of the animated series about yasuke a while back.
Not surprised, are you?
My bet is that this massive fumble by Ubisoft is just going to bring more sales for Ghost of Tsushima and Rise of the Ronin, and every other similar game EXCEPT Asassin's Creed.
This was very an odd choice for the game developers to do this. In the game did they found him as a baby and decided to raise him and train him?
Tis same shit happened in Avatar...smh.
As a black gamer. I knew and felt the same. I don't completely hate it but it gives a bad after taste in my mouth and soul. It's all about sales..but it could go another way as people can see it's blatant. I'm a Ubisoft Creator..a fan and I hope the game is good but these tactics...
The only good this game did was to have edit wars in Wikipedia regarding Yasuke
AC is loosely based on actual history. Most is true, while they play with some parts. But the message rings loudly on this move.
1:08 THANK YOU!!! This is the point, it's not about black or anything, it's just it's the most wanted setting request by ac fans and this is what they get?
As a black man I’m so sick and tired of being pandered to bro….we don’t need it!!! Stop!!! And the same people that are saying “oh it’s fine stop hating” are the same people that would be upset if they made an assassins creed game set in Africa and the main protagonist was a white guy or Asian guy….
And as expected the trailer has more dislikes than likes! 😂
They just knew they couldn’t out do Ghost of Tsushima
Is anyone impressed with many of Tyrone impressions? His Triple H is spot and this Tom Hardy Bane voice wasn't bad
Ubisoft is so dumb for releasing cinematics instead of gameplay because they suck they only wanna hype it up first so people will pre order off of the cinematics. Ubisoft should only do gameplay trailers.
Well this saves me some money.
Would really love an Assassins Creed in central Africa but i get to play a white Belgian officer who goes around massacring the tribes. Did i do it right?
Controversy? Imagine my shock!!
You know what else was in the comics? The ancient one, an Asian elder.
DEI, greedy pricing model, cut and paste Ubisoft formula. Ticks all the boxes for dumpster fire "AAAA" game even before its been released.
I stopped playing ubitrash games since Valhalla and haven't looked back since 😊
I stopped after I beat unity
Yasuke is a BIGG part of the Samurai story is you know the history.
Genuinely thank you Tyrone for keeping it real.
8:07 had me 🤣😂
Alright, Imma leave my comment as a perspective piece for everyone. I'm an asian man. I don't have beef with the black community. I have beef with the "woke" community.
I don't like Yasuke as the main protag in AC, but not because he's black. Typically, I don't have a problem with black representation. Shit my main in Tekken is Leroy. But let's keep it real, how often do you guys seen an asian male protagonist represented in Western media? We're under represented here too. For the most part, we're the IT guy or comedic relief. We had the one saving grace with Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro, but it made sense there because those games take place IN ASIA. So why did Ubisoft break the mold of having AC protagonists be native to the setting? Asian men have already been lacking since we lost Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan retired, let us get this rare dub man.
Lets keep it a buck, Ubisoft just wanted the cookie points of having a black protagonist cus God forbid an asian dude gets to be that guy.
Also, yeah I know Yasuke is a real dude. That doesn't undermine my perspective though.
One more thing I just wanna reiterate, I don't have beef with the black community. I just wanted to see an asian man ball out in their own setting.
The only way these panders will get the message is for people to refuse to buy the product.
You can thank Blackrock and Vanguard for throwing money at these game developers in order to upset people.
Tyrone, these game developers already know what the majority wants.. but money talks and shit walks broski.
Damn... good points!
Apparently Yasuke was only 1 year in Japan. So he couldn't have become a Samurai.
I stopped playing after IV.
Wait what about black flag wasn’t that a black male lead ??? Wasn’t he a slave that escaped and became and assassin?🤨
Yasuke was indeed a real person, but he was not a Samurai. So they're now twisting more of history and giving someone a title they didn't have. He was a servant, and that's it. We could have had a made up character, and Yasuke could make an appearance. It would have been so easy.
Hell Yes!!! You Get It!!!
This is the whole Asians can't be the leads in movies and get the hot girl in the end type of stuff from the past.
Just give it to the Asian guy already.
Also, there better be not hip hop/rap music in this game and one the tracks. This is not Samurai Champloo with all its record skips.
