  • @christianvollheim5372
    @christianvollheim5372 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Wow, thanks for that great tribute to the most underrated band of the sixties! They are still unforgotten here in Germany! The only LP "We are paintermen" has in 1967 only been released here on Hansa Records. Today worth about 300 Euros if in good condition. It`s a shame that that great piece never had been released in UK! There were some reissues on other labels (f. e. OutLine) because of the popularity of the band.
    Two minor mistakes: Tom Tom had been issued in 1967 (not 1968) with Eddie Phillips on guitar, it reached no. 14 in german charts and stayed there for 11 weeks.
    The cover of Boney M. had not been issued in the eighties, but 1979. It reached the top ten of the british charts.

      @@TingoMedia Well, I would love it, for one. I definitely enjoyed learning more about the Creation from this and appreciate your effort. I'd say there are a number of British acts, especially from the 60s and 70s, who are barely known in the U.S. today who deserve similar treatment. Here are a few - perhaps they are just a bit better known than the Creation but not much compared to their popularity in the U.K. and/or their relative importance for those of us who love that era of rock: The Bonzo Dog Band, the Idle Race/the Move/Roy Wood, the Pretty Things, Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich, John Otway, Ian Dury, Slade and others. If you have the time and motivation, I'd love to see you create similar intro videos for them. Some are a bit better known than others (or known for later work by some individual band members, like Neil Innes with Monty Python and the Rutles and Jeff Lynne with ELO and Traveling Wilburys), but overall, they all deserve all the publicity they can get! Thanks.

    Perhaps in the US people aren’t aware of them, but in the UK they are very well known. Jeez, there’s was a record label named after them called Creation Records, which had My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream and Oasis on their roster. The head of that same label, Alan McGee, had his own band called Biff Bang Pow, which was named after one of Creation’s songs.

I went up and asked the girl working there who they were and she took me over and showed me everything they had on vinyl by them, it was a big moment in my musical life. Their musicianship was excellent as evidenced by the few live videos that exist. Eddie is one of my favourite guitarists, some haunting riffs. Would have loved to hear Oasis cover How Does It Feel and Through My Eyes, Noel and Liam could have rocked those. Cheers!

    A very nice production for an incredible and most deserving band. I stumbled onto them myself in the early 80's. I've had everything that has been released over the years. For newcomers who are interested, there have been more recent cd releases that surpass all others. Two box sets, 'Action Painting' a The Numero Group release (064) for the US, and 'Creation Theory' on Edsel in Britain. Creation Theory has some extras (dvd) and the first 500 sets had an enclosed card signed by Eddie Phillips (I have #233). Both were released within a month of each other in 2017.
    If you seek only a single cd, 'Our Music is Red with Purple Flashes' is recommended.
    For reading material, Ugly Things Magazine #15 is quite in-depth, Shindig Magazine #66, and a book entitled 'Our Music is Red with Purple Flashes' by Sean Egan, and published by Cherry Red Books.
    Alas, Kenny Pickett passed away in January 1997, Kim Gardner passed in October 2001, and Bob Garner passed in July 2016. The Creation were an awesome band.

    Good research but one minor mistake I noticed is at 1:02, where the guy on the far left is labeled as Jack Jones when he is actually Dave Preston, the brief replacement drummer. Probably! Making Time for sure copied the blueprints of the My Generation album. Though to be fair, The Who took some heavy inspiration from the kinks, who debuted the year prior (I can't explain was inspired by You Really Got Me). I think there's glimpses of a 'lane' The Creation could've carved out for themselves, but they were just too unstable to reach that point, and like you pointed out, The Who got there first and quickly became the quintessential mods.

    The Irritations were the biggest band you've never heard of. The proof is that nobody's ever heard of them.

      I would recommend against naming your band The Irritations. There's at least 2 of us already. We can negotiate a deal if you find yourself terribly attached to the name. I was made unaware of a band from Montreal that predates us. That's probably who you really need to negotiate with.
