Lore wise, Ocarina of Time is the best to start with without a doubt. It introduces all the important series staples. The triforce. The 3 goddesses and how they forged the land. The golden trinity of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf/Ganon. Hyrule itself and all it's iconic landmarks. Link rides horseback, which has become a staple of the character even if he doesn't always do it in every game. It introduces the most recurring races in the series. It's the definitive starting point.
The only thing that makes it difficult to recommend to younger players is that the gameplay mechanics are a bit dated. I played this game when it first came out in the 90s, but I know it'll probably be a hard sell to a kid these days. Which is one of many reasons I feel we NEED an Ocarina of Time remake. A proper remake, not a remaster like we got on 3DS. Give it the Resident Evil 2 remake treatment. It'll be perfect.

Exactly! I didn't want to talk much about potential spoiler stuff in the video, but I completely agree that Oot should be a staple first game to play for newbies! Everything you stated is perfect!
I agree about the gameplay being a bit outdated and in need of a remake on newer counsels to help newer generations.

For me 1 would be Skyward Sword, you stated most of the reasons already but the n1 for me would be that it's on the switch! I think most people that are starting on the zelda franchise are either young or new to nintendo games so they probably don't have a lot of consoles. That is the console they're most likely to own nowadays.
Even if they're open for emulation i still feel like i would recommend that one still.

Nice! Yeah, Skyward Sword is such an incredible game. That is very true about the newer Zelda fans maybe not having the older consoles. Good point! I never played on the DS and the smaller consoles, which I know some Zelda games are only on, so I get that.

Ocarina of Time is on the Switch too though. It's on the NSO. I still can't believe Wind Waker and Twilight Princess haven't been ported yet though.

@ Yeah, I agree! People totally have options of where to find "older" Zelda games on different consoles. I was just sharing that I personally played on the Wii.
SAME! I have been dying for Twilight Princess to get a revamp to the Switch! People would LOVE that!

I don't think I can agree that Twilight Princess is too different from other Zelda games. The dungeon structure is quintessential Zelda as is the graphical style, the items, the story...I would agree that I wouldn't recommend it for someone's first Zelda game because there are a couple better places to start but not because it's too different from the rest of the series. Wind Waker, I would contend, is "more different" (as in a more different 's' on a wingaling dragon) than most Zelda games including twilight princess but perhaps a better place to start. Good lost either way. I would perhaps take the individual's preferences into account when making a recommendation. For instance, the ease of obtaining a game to play. I love LOVE Four Swords Adventures but I could never recommend it to anyone as a first Zelda game since it costs 600 bucks to set up. Do they only have an N64? Well that narrows things down! Are they old like me? Ocarina of Time since they're more likely to have cultivated an appreciation for retro games. Are they casual? Breath of the Wild. Are they strapped for time? Link's Awakening (the og, naturally, not the remake).I actually started my wife on A Link Between Worlds before we were even married but the first Zelda game she beat was TP!

I always wanted to get into zelda, but last time I tried, I ended up taking the game before the end of the week 😅it's just not a series I could play since having to waste 30 min just running from the starting area back to where I left of (if I could remember exactly where it was...) is simply too annoying and wasteful for me, considering I like to play for 1, at most 2h per session... I'm quite sure the switch games have autosave feature so you could potentially exploit it so you don't need to run all over the map every time you load your game, but if you need to perform a glitch every time you wanna play, it's not worth it for me...
