    Definitely a different style of logging and trees than what I’m used to seeing in Washington.
    Getting people to understand proper forest management is like banging yourself in the head with a choker bell. 😂

    It's important to understand the forest floor and the regeneration of trees. This is a prime example of that. What a difference a clear cut is - must have been a great experience.

    I judge all woods based on delicious squirrel density. 😋
    Edit: I grew up in a place and time that if you wanted to eat you went hunting or fishing. We managed the forest to maximize critter occupancy. Cut wood and pulled it with mules.

    All trees eventually die so you might as well manage them the best you can to get the most value you can out of them. Sometimes it’s better to select cut an area or just wack them all down and start over. Clear cuts usually look crappy when first done but a few years later it’s full of little new trees. Clear cuts are also great fire breaks for forest fires because young trees don’t usually burn like older drier forests.

    I follow exactly what Big Daddy is getting at but a crystal ball to tell a landowner the future market price and demand for certain types of trees in 20-30-40 years down the road. Would also be awesome in determining what to do with property.
    Without getting into numbers...How much difference in cost per acre would their be for a property owner to have a logger clear cut versus select?
    Thanks for the vidja and enjoy the cooler temps over the next 7-10 days!

    Clear cut is sop around here. Then replant in Loblolly Pine. I’m in my 60’s and trees. I planted while working for the Virginia Forestry Dept. over the summer in high school have been thinned at 20 years for pulp wood then clear cut at 40 years for saw timber. Those same plots are being replanted again with pine. In my lifetime that 100 acres has been harvested 3 times. If the good Lord lets me live to 75 I’ll see them cut a 4th time.

    Managing forestry is not a "What's good for the bottom line today" thing . It a 40 to 50 year project. In England on those massive estates the tree plantings were planned for a 50 year timeline to a mature tree. The planners would plant a future tree then encourage the underbrush and competing trees to force the target tree to develop on plan. The competing plants would be trimmed and managed to create the desired showcase tree. Obviously a loooo g term plan.

  • @kat2641
    @kat2641 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You know? It alway amassed me on how Brutus can cut an handle the trees! I know how much a full adult tree can weighs and the weight of the tree is controlled by hydraulics which are in close control by little rubber hydraulic hoses. How on earth does Brutus when handling that Weight of the tree not just blow the steel reinforced hydraulic hoses in pieces let alone not up end Brutus off it’s tracks!! Especially when you look at it from a mathematical perspective. The longer the length Of the tree the more the weight Multiplies on Brutus’s arms and hydraulic hoses . It just defies logic thinking 🤔 10 pounds is 10 pounds but put that 10 pounds on the end of a 20 foot pole an the weight Multiplies itself tenfold. It’s just A amazing machine an Basically defies the law gravity…. But I have select cut
    My whole life An never thought about the growth difference between a clear cut and select cut

    Yes the global control using idealogical thinking ,there will be pain until the cycle comes back around ,until then smell the trees,the clean air around them 😃
    In NZ forests are sold to overseas investment,so they can claim Carbon credits ,makes them feel good I suppose ,but I bet if they didn't have them ,what they are associated with is proba not good for the planet
