My favorite saw. I like it better then my 500i. The 400c is so responsive and light, and with a 24" B&C is a great saw for cutting firewood. The 500i I use a 32" B&C and rarely like to tackle such big wood.
The stihl light bars I believe to be really durable. I will never buy any other bar again. And they are a few bucks cheaper than the fad bars most people are buying.
At the lesser weight and definitely lower price point than a 462, from my understanding once ported it's a lil beast of a saw. At $1200-1300 for a 462 plus price of a port job, the 400 ported is the price of a 462 which is only 5cc larger. I think you'll probably enjoy that saw.
@@jaythe306snowmexican from what's been regurgitated and I've heard is that has a quite a bit more rpm's in the actual cut. Which as you are aware is a faster chain & less cutting. Would like to see your honest feed back from your time on one.
I've been waiting for my ms400 with a 24 inch light bar it's on order for months now. The dealer told me that it might not be until next year. Before I get it. Anticipation is killing me.
It's getting ridiculous the way things have been going. It took 8 months for mine too show up. They told me they where having issues getting light bars in so I bought all they had. My second 500i took awhile too. The 881 was only a week.
How do u calibrate a new 400 ,first run I mean ? By the way ,isn't a 25' bar to long for the existing oiler without an upgrade??? I also looking to buy one, thanks in advance Gunter
Out of the box I fill with fuel and oil warm the saw up and put it too work. I only recalibrate if the saws starting acting up. And ive only had too do that once . The 25" bar is perfect for the 400 haven't had any issues with oiling. I run full chisel full comp rs33 chain on everything. You'll like the saw.
I run the stihl fuel in all saws. The old pioneers I add extra oil so it's at 40:1. I was running 32:1 bit it was too much oil . The stihl mix is the only fuel I will ever run in saws.
I know how that goes. I was torn between the 462 and the 400, but was favoring the 462. My dealer had the 400 on the shelf and said he ordered a 462 but didn't know if would be here next week or next year. So I went for the sure thing,,, the 400cm. I'm happy with my purchase, she's a fine saw. A nice upgrade from my 290 that has been a rock star, but I'll always wish there had been a 462 on the shelf. It's like the girl I always had a crush on but couldn't get. Every time I drive buy the saw shop I wonder if they have a 462 on the shelf now. I don't go look because I might buy it.
@@jaythe306snowmexican I got my wife a ms210 about 12-13 years ago when she USE to go with me to get firewood. Now in her late 50s she no longer goes. The 210 is still in mint shape with fairly low hours. It has been my backup saw ( sometimes I push my luck and pinch my bar) but now that I have the 400 my 290 is my backup saw and the 210 just looks cute sitting in the garage. I don't dare look to see if there is a 462 available or my 290 will sit next to the 210.

My ms400, to tune the carburetor I started it up on choke let it run for 30 seconds. Then I held the throttle wide open till it came alive.

Im a groundy. This saw is light but but power to do most stuff. Love it. Up tree not sure.
I've had it up in the trees, it's not too bad.

Calibration is simple. Run the saw wide open and you will here the rpms fluctuate. When the saw smooths out you're good too go

That's a sweet saw, I hate twisted up chains too lol. What's the advantage of using the premixed gas vs mixing your own gas? Take care
I’m pretty sure the premixed stuff burns waaaay cleaner. Lasts 2 years after opened, and smells like rocket fuel
The stihl fuel buddy burns clean. You don't get carbon build up the saws run better , cleaner and more efficient.
