I’ve never understood why people took pictures of themselves. I know what I look like i don’t need a thousand pictures to remind me.
I only have one picture of myself. It's a framed selfie above my bathroom sink that miraculously moves as I do. Plus, I don't remember taking it and it seems to age as I do. I can't figure it out.
Some take selfies to remember their youth (what they looked like when they were young, along with memories associated with those pictures.
I don't understand the point of having 100000 pictures in the camera roll consisting of only self portraits. It's narcissistic behaviour.

I saw a hilarious selfie mishap one day on my way home from work last summer. I mostly ride my bike to work because it's pretty close and it's a nice ride through a park, along a river. There's a part where I have to cross a pedestrian/bike bridge over the river. These two girls were riding long-boards over the bridge and one of them was taking a selfie as she was riding, not paying attention, when she started going directly toward a guy on a bike, head-on. He yelled "Hey!!", startling her and she jumped off her board, dropped her phone, and I watched as it slid under the guard rail, into the river about 30 feet below. It took all I had to not burst into laughter as I rode by the scene.

I've LONG said that......People who die while taking a selphie in front of a train coming or whatever, all to often die from it. .
The Forestall Bridge is a great example. This is the highest bridge in CA....police have repeatedly installed barriers to prevent people from accessing the under bridge framework. In spite of this, people manage to defeat the barriers, crawl underneath and take a selphie anyway.
It might sound harsh, but it has long been my observation.....Those who die while taking a selphie actually improve the gene pool simply by the act of removing themselves from it.

It's NOT so much about taking a photo of some object......I mean, I took the photo, I KNOW I was there and I do not need (nor want) myself blocking the view. What selphie takers are actually communicating is they're more important than the view/object they are photographing.

It's not entitlement, pretty much all young people, regardless of intelligence or nationality, believe they have their whole lives in front of them and can have the feeling of invincibility, but it's just inexperience. We all felt we knew better growing up but young people today aren't nearly as well equipped to deal with real life. They may know about 'modern' life (technology, social media, etc) and be 'socially aware' but very few have the basic life skills to survive this brutal world. That's not solely their fault as they were never taught these abilities, or that they needed them.
Being young makes you feel invincible. Been there and was lucky enough to survive my mistakes.
Maybe for the better she died that way. Morticians love two things: harvesting your organs cause no one's gonna ever check and diddling young girls on the slab. It's horrible.

I know of the spot the first video referenced, it is a beautiful spot and people climb to the edge all the time for selfies, hopefully people will be more cautious after this.

His father said he was experienced but not so. No one is experienced on going close to any ledge because that's not something that you would be experienced at (Maybe unless your Houdini.) When dad wasn't there his total "put on" being experienced disappeared when he wanted to take a stupid selfie. Great experience I'm sure.
i went to the grand canyon back in february 2022. it was snowing, i REFUSED to get anywhere near the edges while snapping selfies!!! my pics still came out pretty dope!

I've taken one selfie in my life and that was to poke fun at myself when after years of avoiding it due to having had skin cancer in the past, I got a deep tan after taking a job as a pool monitor in my complex and took it by the pool as a joke. I was sitting in a chaise so not doing anything risky. I did buy a selfie stick but only to take an easy photo under my sink to see if I needed a 2 or 3 hole faucet to replace the one i had. It hasn't been used since, not so egotistical as to need to take pictures of myself.

The 1st one on this list 20 year old Andrea who fell off the cliff trying to take a selfie. She died immediately on impact but I cant help but wonder what the thoughts were running through her head on the maybe 10-15 second fall to the bottom. I can only imagine what the human brain is going through during something as traumatizing as that.
I do not own a cell phone and never will own one. When they first came out I started to notice people standing around looking down at their phones, sitting while looking down at their phones. Soon these people stopped noticing anything going on around themselves, stopped acknowledging their kids or pets, totally mesmerized by their phones. I was the only person on the bus who was actually looking out the window. As time went on it got worse, people were walking around looking at their phone, then never putting their phones away, holding on to them and looking at them every few seconds. I thought this was really weird. I did some cartoons of some of these events and used them as chapter heading for I book I wrote. It doesn't surprise me that people are too preoccupied with getting a photo of themselves rather than be aware of their surroundings and dying because of it. A really stupid way to die!

Selfie pressures are very real! I mean who came up with a concept of getting paid for the most crazy selfie. So many have died. That one guy who did crazy stunts on buildings and the last one he died. Climbing on the side of big buildings doing push-ups or whatever he didn’t have enough grip to get back up and knew he was going to die. Kids thinking getting paid to do these crazy stunt selfie‘s with no one around to help them if something goes wrong! Dumb! When I was young we just called it taking a photo. No pressure no death! No on should be paid doing this kind of nonsense so that’s the problem! Trains are dangerous!!! My father was a conductor and as a kid I knew exactly how dangerous trains were even train tracks, but I also knew how to look for a train coming that I couldn’t even see because my father taught me. I still was aware of the dangers you don’t play on them you don’t play near them they are heavy equipment and no one has ever survived going up against a train!
