Beautiful work, a joy to watch. I was getting really nervous when Andrea was screwing in the fastenings ! But she is too much of a professional to make a slip so close to finished coverings. I love Mechanic's Corner, please continue these episodes.

What a wonderful skillful lady and such an asset to Fantasy of Flight in being able to do these fiddly time consuming jobs,the upper ones are going to be even more difficult to do,such attention to historic detail really completes the restoration job,this is such an evocative aeroplane which displays the German engineering of its time so well,we are honoured to be able to see these insights first hand like this and it was a pleasure to watch Andrea form that leather as she did around the struts,thank you once again for allowing us these deep insights into aircraft restoration at its finest.

These more detailed technical videos are awesome, keep it up! Kermie cam vids are always awesome too btw! The more “instructional” the better, it’s the closest some of us can get to flying and working on the real things!
Jungmeister sounds like a stiff drink.. lol! Boggles the mind how much effort goes into restoring these historic aircraft and unique skills involved. Love the work (as always) & best wishes..!
So I was wondering, what exactly is the boot for? Aerodynamics, weather protection, both? Also, why punch the holes behind the strut in the boot when you're stitching them together? Great video. Awesome work Andrea.
I'd be mortified punching holes through the wing fabric because the law of probabilities and cosmic disorder wouldn't let my holes line up with the bracket. Good work Andrea, done with confidence and competence.
I have a tupid question. Why is the stitch facing the leading edge? I'm thinking smooth air flow. Hmmm, looking at it more I guess if that was attempted the brace wire would need to be removed and feed through a hole in the leather. Maybe that would be too much work... just thinking...
If you look carefully you will see that the strut bracing wires are firmly encompassed by the leather boots,if they were the other way around then it would be difficult to form the shape properly,the boots fit snugly around that complex area,the boots are also more secure that way too.
Yea, I'm looking at this view at 17:00 and the rear boot she's is working on. That would be difficult to form around the brace rod. First having to remove the rod first to slip into a hole in the boot if the stitching were to face the rear. Awesome skills! TY!
All you needed was Vegetable-tanned leather. It will fold and take a shape easily, no need to use sheep leather. Obviously what you tried before was Mineral (chromium) tanned leather which will NOT take a shape.
Somebody pull up a chair for this lady and offer her a bottle of cocacola (classic, not the imposter). Nice work, very skillful and deft, which only a woman's hands can perform to such a high standard.

Surely with the boot stitched in, it inhibits the Annual or 100 hr inspection of the nuts and bolts?
No idea why this interested me so much lol.

As I used to tell my technicians in the Air Force - be sure you use the good expensive duct tape and not the cheap tape! LOL
