I was reading the questions below and I have the same questions Cliff Lilja had 5 days ago. Have learned a lot by watching your videos thanks for posting them.
I always end up with a thick gob at the top of the mountain where the knife first touches. I'm using thick paint, but maybe I am putting pressure on it. I do use my finger to control the blade, so I will try holding it at a bit of an upward angle like you suggest. You do really nice mountains ⛰
That was really helpful. Thank you. That section looks fantastic I can’t wait for the other three. I don’t know if you knew Bob personally but I guess if he was still here we'd see you on a Joy of Painting. I’ve watched Bob for over thirty years and I can tell you I enjoy watching you every bit as much. Also you have more time to spend on the details and that’s great for a complete novice. Keep them coming we really appreciate the effort.
Never met Bob. I believe I was 17 when Bob passed. I do know his son Steve and best buddy Dana. They are both great dudes. Glad these are helpful for you!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! I have been so frustrated about my mountains. I have been practicing, but until tonight, I didn't realize that the consistency of my white wasn't right..i had been putting liquid white in with it..now, thanks to you and your video, I am ready to go try again! Can't wait to see the other three that you do!
I also meant to say that I love watching you do the mountains! I just hope to be as good as you one day! I have always loved watching Bob Ross and I believe in my heart that if he was alive today, he would definitely be patting you on the back for a job so well done! As far as the palette knife goes..i only have a #10 Bob Ross one. I have the Master paint set and it was second hand..so I am missing a one inch brush, the #5 knife and I need to get a #3 fan..but it will all come in time! Thanks again!
Great art! very beautiful. Thank you for sharing your wonderful work. I think your work is very special and wonderful. I learned a lot from your work. I respect you.
Thank you for the great tutorials and showing your technique! I would like to ask for some advise... I usually find myself having some problem with the bottom color mixing with the top. For example adding the clouds, the fan brush filled with white still picks up some of the blue (sky) and would you suggest I clean the fan brusch between applications, because otherwise the small amount of blue I bring to the palette back mixes with the titanium white and the next application of clouds becomes more of a light blue cloud or just totally mixes with the already blue sky.
Make sure you are not putting too much liquid white on the canvas. That would be my first consideration with the clouds. Also, make sure to load a lot of titanium white in your brush for clouds. To avoid the blue issue, you can also wipe your brush on a paper towel ever so often. But a bit of blue is going to get into your white and that is actually a good thing.
Great work Bram. If I could make a suggestion, one of the things I struggle with is coming up with the layout and layering when trying to come up with paintings. I get very overwhelmed trying to figure out what to put in the foreground and background, where my horizon should be etc. PS. I think you do the best mountains out of all the painters I watch. They just have such depth and texture.
Wow, thanks for that compliment! I love painting mountains like Bob so I do hope that shows. I will do a video talking about the things you mentioned soon.
I also get overwhelmed because I'm new. I can do a decent mountain, nothing spectacular but not bad, then after that I'm lost lol. I'm going to keep practicing the techniques for awhile, following your videos. They are simple but beautiful with alot of depth. I was amazed how you took that old painting and made it look like the river started waaaaaaay back and looked so deep into the background. Really inspired me! I have a few that aren't good 😆
I can’t tell you how helpful this tutorial has been! Thank you, this really helps.
Very nice ,amazing my friend❤️👍
Thank you very much!

I feel your pain.
Awesome tips Bram. My mountains look like shoes soles slapped on top of each other. I will try your technique and hope it works out. Thanks!

Bram, your voice is to relaxing lol
I haven't tried painting in over a year I think tomorrow I'll get my canvas pad out and practice some clouds, mountains and trees.
I hope you do!
Great video! Thanks!
Good to hear! Thanks for giving it a look!
Hello Bram
Hi Becky!
