I love Genki and the way she pats Kintaro. At this point Gentaro is just exhausting and a royal pain in the ass. Since they started running video's of Gentaro before Kintaro was born , I do have a better understanding of what's going on with the Jealous Gentaro. At times he is a charmer, and a comedian and a dancer but all the other times???? He is an obnoxious, disrespectful spoiled pre-teen!! 😁

I think she is afraid dad will scold him and she does not like that. It is dad's responsibility to scold him. All mom's are like that with their kids. Genki is such a protector of both her babies.

It isn't "playful", it isn't "funny", it isn't "precious", it isn't "beautiful", it's sad and enraging because you'd need to be a braindead moron not to see the look of genuine terror on her face as she runs to protect that infant. What's even worse is that this troop is obviously small. So where's the Silverback? Why can't he get off his ass and at least help protect his youngest progeny? In one video, she was descending a ladder and for a brief moment, she was above her son. She was in the perfect position to take her foot, and with a little applied force, swiftly teach him a lesson in respect. Not enough to srsly injure him, but at least enough to get his attention. I'm minoring in primatology in addition to my astrophysics and applied mathematics work and try as I might, read all the keeper journals and husbandry manuals, texts, and published research papers, I just don't understand why they won't take up for themselves, or why the Silverbacks won't step in when the mum is _this_ distressed. Trying to understand these beings and chimpanzees are why I began studying primatology. It was on the 10th video that I realised the adolescent's behaviour was motivated purely by jealousy. At first glance it _appears_ to be harmless because he's not hurting her. Then as the videos went on the behaviour changed and took on a more sinister tone, with him trying to pull her off the landing and ladder, and even biting her pretty hard in the back! As for why she has no protection from the father when that's *supposed* to be his job as troop leader, I still don't have worked out. Maybe I never will. 😊🖤 Cheers, and thanks for sharing.
Carla Rene evidently your not aware of are you the back story with this gorilla mom and how she was separated from her older son shortly after birth due to problems she had with her breast milk. Kintaro (the baby) was born in December 2018 and Genki (the mom) has held him continuously and never put him down. The older son is over being curious about the baby and now appears to be very jealous and hungry for his mom’s attention.
Poor mommy cant hide from Gentaro! He finds her and the look on her face is the same..."Oh S***, he found me, DAMN!" then it is a comedy skit as Gentaro drives mommy out of her mind. I only wish my mother had Genti's patience, human moms would be screaming and tying us in a chair until dad comes home! lol! Gentaro wants to be the baby again, or just to drive mommy crazy! LOL! Mom is a saint! LOL

That Silverback also needs to get off his ass and protect that infant. After all, that _is_ their job. Or, supposed to be. I watched about 10 of these videos today in which Gentaro is bullying and targeting his mum, and with each new video his behaviour became more and more srs, with him trying to pull her off a ladder in the tenth one, and then once they're on the ground he just hauls off and bites her pretty hard in her back. Maybe if people had seen the progression of videos as I had they wouldn't be misreading his behaviour as "cute" or "precious" or even funny. They'd see it for what it is: sad and enraging.
Of course while all that was going on Momotaro was over in the corner, swinging peacefully in his hammock downing a couple a brews and munching on grass.
gorilla fathers do not stop mothers from disciplining their sons, they expect that their mates are adults with the sense and willpower to actually influence their sons.

I was so nervous that Gentaro was going to accidentally unalive Kintaro as a baby because he was so recklessly tough (still is but Kintaro's gotten more durable.)

This is worrisome behaviour. I'm reminded of the newborn gorilla baby who lost her arm in a family dispute some time ago at a different zoo. She lived through it and is doing fine now. As I recall she had to be separated from her family for quite a long time during healing therapy until she could function properly. Mama is going to have an ulcer from anxiety if this doesn't let up.
Your remarks are correct. The eldest son of a gorilla is really violent. However, the mother is firmly serving as a consolidator of the family. She is a mother with heartburn. Have a nice day!

kindafoggy Gentaro is the only child until he is 6 years old and BAM a little baby bro comes along... it’s very normal for him to be a bit jealous and asking for mom’s attention... no worries Genki and Momotaro will keep their oldest son at bay until baby brother safe to play with him.. Even it is a long time ago I cannot understand why the zoo's responsible staff could allow so many attacks Genki had to endure from her first son. Why did noone interfere? Was there no room left to seperate Genki with her baby? Had she to stay there for the audience' pleasure? Maybe the truth lay in every single question. So as a result these wonderful creatures must not be prisoned in zoos! It is a torture.

I saw 10 of these videos today where he's bullying her, and by the tenth one his behaviour escalated and not only had he tried to pull her off a ladder a few times, but when they landed back on the ground he just hauls off and bites her pretty hard in her back.
Unlike so many of the Gorilla experts on here Im not well versed in the behaviour of gorillas, but I have kids and my oldest would always act a fool when my youngest was first born before any attention is better then no attention. I have the feeling that if it got serious mom would handle it.

ゲンキの腕の中で幸せに浸るキンタロウを奪いたい、遊びたい、ゲンキに注目してもらいたいゲンタロウ。
大変な時期でしたが、
すごーく可愛いんです。
梁の上から降りるゲンキを見て、ゲンタロウは、ささっと先回りして降りて、下からゲンキの足を引っ張り、お尻を叩いていたシーンには、思わずニヤニヤしてしまいました。
今でこそ、ゲンタロウとキンタロウは毎日パワフルに遊びを繰り広げていますが、この頃は、ゲンキの腕の中にばかりいる小さなキンタロウに興味津々でした。
子供の成長過程には、様々な感情が起こり、それが大切な勉強です。
いつまでもこの状態ではありません。
成長したゲンタロウは、キンタロウの素晴らしい兄であり、キンタロウの心強い味方。
おそらく、人間も同じようなパターンで、お母さんは、イライラしながらも、怒ったり笑ったり反省したりしながら子供を育てることに夢中で、そのうちあっという間に時は過ぎてしまうのでしょう。

Yes, they tried to separate Gentaro but Genki started crying and screaming. She didn't want the staff to separate her from his eldest child. And they must be in zoos because in the wild they have a terrible and cruel predator who is putting their existence in risk: the human being.

If you're talking about Gentaro's behaviour, he's acting out of nothing but pure and dangerous jealousy. I saw 10 of these videos today where he's bullying her, and by the tenth one his behaviour escalated and not only had he tried to pull her off a ladder a few times, but when they landed back on the ground he just hauls off and bites her pretty hard in her back.

Unlike so many of the Gorilla experts on here Im not well versed in the behaviour of gorillas, but I have kids and my oldest would always act a fool when my youngest was first born before any attention is better then no attention. I have the feeling that if it got serious mom would handle it.
