    I've been saying the EXACT same thing for a year now. I'm a pretty experienced backend dev and, for the last year or so, I've been pivoting to frontend, graphic design, and animation. When explaining my pivot to friends & colleagues, I've basically used your exact arguments. Plus it's way more fun and I've always wanted to be an artist XD

    I agree with you about tools being tailored for specific individuals. Initially, I coded everything from scratch using React and Next.js. However, I've now recognized the power of Webflow. It allows me to build websites more quickly and intuitively for clients to manage. Additionally, I can still create custom animations using integrated code.

    • @olivierlarose1
      @olivierlarose1  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For sure! Sometimes going full React is overkill on some projects. Webflow definitely has a place in the market for small creative websites. Glad you’re landing clients too!

      @@olivierlarose1 New developer here, I have been making creative websites only using react/next, framer etc.. Would you suggest just switching to webflow for the creative/landing page websites ? I had a pre-conception that it's better to code everything yourself then use websites like Webflow, Wordpress etc... as it increases my 'skill' and also more impressive towards job recruiters. I have had hours of headaches coding things that take 5 minutes with Webflow ahah but I thought it was worth it. I do see some really creative websites only with webflow, which look really good and professional, and in the end the client/user doesn't really care if it's build with code or CMS.

    Just wanted to drop by and say that I've been really enjoying your videos! I wanted to share an interesting tidbit with you: 20 years ago, I started programming in AS(Flash), and exactly 11 years ago, as it was fading away and making room for new web technologies, I found myself wondering what would become of all that creativity and interactivity. Fast forward to recent years, and it seems like those aspects are making a comeback! It's like you're spot on - that lost chapter is now rapidly unfolding and thriving again!
    Keep up the great work!

    Great video Olivier. I could not agree more, 100%. Also, this ties in very well with the rise of personal branding that has happened in the last few years and now recently is getting a big boom. Through my entire life i have been struggling to put myself in a box on what i should focus on, because i just love to do stuff, create things, everything from design, UX and UI to coding to musicproduction..to learn new things and just being open to those new tools that are being made for us. So i think i might just be a creative dev...well, that was easy, hehe.

    This is a great way to see things. I do agree with you, there's a lot of tools out there that provide ways of being more unique on our designs, which shows that people are also looking to be more unique and make a space for creative coding. Hey Oliver - came across your web tutorials and it's got me into learning React/Next as well as animations. I'm a web dev with a Laravel/Vue background but I'm currently setting up my own company/business and I want to make it around creative development. I have an artist who can create assets and together we can really combine art and programming to make something special I feel. Your tutorials have definitely inspired me to get more into animations and transitions and I think Next, GSAP, FramerMotion etc these will eventually be staples in the business going ahead. Honestly just trying to get to a point where I'm able to whip out Awwwards style sites so looking forward to learning more from you. I would like to ask if you can do some tutorials on how to put sites as a whole together, so combining all these tidbits into a site with a purpose or theme. As an experienced "traditional" tech person (React/NextJS), how do I progress? I love art, I want to code beautiful things. I got the hang of threeJS basics, but feel like I need a proper design to code to advance.
    I've been learning design for a while, and now Blender, but I know it'll take *years* to be any good. I'm ok with that. But I have a tendency to "lone wolf" things, and I'm wondering if what I really need is to collaborate with the artsier people. Are there "creative designers" that specialise in this type of design? I know if a design and assets were given to me, I could code it, but I'm stuck trying to be everything. I feel pretty clueless, any insight would be super appreciated.

    My two cents is that and I quote the Primagen here “if you don’t become really good and solve the hard problems, you will eventually become obsolete”. I think that “simple” tasks will become and are already automated but the real nitty gritty stuff will remain our domain until eventually that will to be automated. At which point it doesn’t really matter as all jobs will be automated if we make it that far.

      First of all let's not care about what other people think that's not healthy and shouldn't be in your decision process. Then you should learn HTML/CSS/JS in any case. Even if you use no code tools, you'll eventually have to insert custom code (in Webflow for example) if you want to truly have a unique website. If you want to focus purely on small creative websites, design, motion, etc then learn Webflow. Otherwise learn React, as you can still do creative websites but it also opens up the possibility for other kind of web apps.
