Man I love being assigned a personality! I want so badly to identify with a group which gives me the feeling of being part of something greater than I really am and that I am actually cared about within a community somewhere, which is a feeling I am quite lacking in my day to day life. It also makes me feel unique and special without needing to do any thinking, making me feel more important than I really am. These are all feelings that, due to the modularization of modern society, I am lacking and can falsely fill with fake internet emotions. Thank you for making this video.

      Exactly.
I've been thinking of something along these lines as well, that there are people whose sole identity is "I'm a pistachio" or "oh I really love this artist, oh btw have I told you that I really love this artist", or things like this and it's the saddest fucking thing. Our modern society for some reason accepts this. It's mind-boggling. These people are so goddamn boring to be around, and I don't want to be rude to anyone, but fuck, I hate it. Please find a hobby, I am begging you.

The ‘thrift store-vintage-not like other girls/boys’ look basically summarizes a majority of these.
It covers the baggy wave, the thrift wave, the plaid wave, Hypebeast 2, post minimalist, tik tok core, Deepop fashion, the leather and denim renascence, skater look, academia, basic hot girl summer, coffee shop and book vibes, etc.
TL;DR: fashion is a cycle, a lot of the trendy sub genres come from a core group of genres and all THOSE genres share similar features such as an overall Vintage trying-not-to-look-like-you-tried-to-hard vibe. This is what’s popular with the teens at least in the west.

Fashion is cyclical, 90s fashion has been trendy for a while and now 2000s is making a run. It’s good to make a wardrobe around timeless items/colors like bombers, denim, Kakis etc. and build off from their. Not sayin u shouldn’t look at trends, quite the opposite you could get inspiration from them. But have a core of outfits that’s YOU like and are classics.

i got the same problems w hypebeast 2 as i did w hypebeast 1. before it was about making streetwear flashy and glam. now its about making it more elevated and luxurious like menswear. whether its ultra boosts vs jordans or offwhite v. aime leon dore, its all lacking the same essential element: the actual street part. if something is 'street,' it's genuinely gritty, urban and rugged. if you throw on $500 jordans or nb 550s just cuz its trending, that's not street no matter how much u resemble a guy from the hood. hype by definition is about following commercial trends (but still trying to maintain an urban look). thats inherently disingenuous, tacky and not timeless. so hype is not street

I will say, spending more on a plain item that you can then dress up with louder accessories does hold up, because the higher quality will make that piece last. What I don't understand is people wearing entire outfits of expensive basics, it just screams "no personality but I got money"

Kind of happy I’m not on the list lol. Nice roots joggers that aren’t baggy. I buy simple colored t shirts by people such as Robert Barakket that are expensive to help with the clean look. Or I’ll have for example wear my stone island black hoodie if it’s colder that way iykyk, but it doesn’t scream expensive etc just a hoodie with a badge on the side. I like to wear vans (classic black), black NMDs, or my black reflective lace Yeezys mainly. If I’m going fancy then my common projects with nice skinny jeans or my black YSL court classics typically. I’ll still wear a Robert Barakket t shirt.
If it’s freezing then my Emory CG jacket. Ik it’s more flashy, but I’m wearing it for my own comfort lol and I feel it looks nice with my overall outfit.
I also make sure to smell good. I recommend Valentino Uoma Born if you want to smell incredible day and ESPECIALLY if you’re going out and most likely the guy next to you isn’t wearing it.
That’s my main fit :) I’ve gotten many compliments about me looking clean. I’m just a chill guy minding my own business and no I don’t mean that in a selfish way lol. Peace!

So, I'm a female and not a "high fashion" person but.... With the exception of artcore everything else looks like variations of normcore. I could literally go to my local thrift store or Walmart and build outfit dupes for just about all those fits for well under $100, including shoes. They all look so dull to me. But dude recreating Marvel super heroes? I bow down in amazement. That is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen in men's fashion.

Grunge did not start as an aesthetic. Like goth, grunge and punk are first about the music, then about the fashion. The clothing choices evolved because we were poor highschool kids who shopped at thriftstores. If you talk to old goths, like gen-X era, they're in the same boat, and tend to invalidate younger goths who buy their look instead of making it via dye and thrifting. All this to say that the modern version isn't really like the original roots these days.

I literally just like to dress like it’s still the 90s lol. I incorporate a bit of post minimalism too because as someone’s who’s been into fashion for a long time, I get tired of needing to switch up my wardrobe every 6 months or so. Clothes that are very loud and graphic tend to expire quicker and you get minimal wear out of them but minimalist clothes have great longevity. So yah, vintage x post minimalism would best describe my style.

Now it seems like they raised their prices to give out the most basic poor made clothing. I’ve stopped shopping there and many others that have followed the same trend. Wish companies would stop over pricing their stuff for such basic designs and clothes.

Oh man when I entered high school some years ago, i saw Pinterest outfits alive. Every single girl, I swear, was wearing those aesthetic baggy/skinny clothes with a touch of vintage.
I started thinking it was too basic, and honestly now that I think about it, it was pleasing to the eye when I first encountered those, but they are all the same. Nothing new comes out. It’s always the same colors, baggy or body fitting, vintage vibes colors. Even the round harry potter glasses, but golden and stylishly thin. Hair too, messy, e girl.
