That last game was the most outlandish game I've seen in a long time, haha. The sheer contempt OPs deck had for the rules of the game, only to be rewarded at every turn. Pure comedy.
@@stefanoderosa9506 I can tell you it's pretty common opponent in plat. I am a f2p player so I usually end up in plat or diamond and this is a standard opponent. I recently got killed by off color hidegutsu 10 DMG bullsh topdecks in foundations draft after they misplay the whole game. It happened to me in 3 out of 5 foundations drafts (last game every time) and all of this was plat and all of them were topdecks. 5 color decks at oversize are pretty standard too, it's like every other deck. 3 our of 4 removal into flood of creature into some finisher is the standard opponent. They always start with perfect mana and continue to only draw spells for at least 5 turns.
I love that he had better mana with his 50 card five color nonsense deck than half my games with a 9/8 two color deck. I uninstall and don't come back for 6 months after games like that.
@@Jermo484 I've had the same experience... opponent will play 4 colors, hit perfect land drops + colors... I play 2 colors, draw 9 swamps 0 islands and lose 😂
Just a heads up, they had a rotation of cards in the pioneer masters packs concerning the contents of the "extra sheet". The first rotation involved planeswalkers the current rotation involves the fuse spells in the extra sheet. There will be one more rotation which is supposed to be devotion. In sealed your packs have the chance to contain cards from any of the rotations even if it's not the current extra sheet for draft. :)
That last game was top entertainment. I have had my head scratching moments this format. Where I'm doubting myself, my plays, my deck building. And I'd be completely frustrated. Seeing it happen to someone else -> hilarious!
Hey Paul, I know it's off topic, but I just got my foirst ever trophy, playing a Foundations draft - I started recently to play draft and your videos were a great help and inspiration for me to be mora than just a constructed player. So.. thanks!
It feels weird that you're restricting yourself so much on colors. You passed lots of good black cards and another Pacifism even though you have 3 fixers plus Plaza and enough Gates to support going a little more overboard. Also, that last game was ridiculous. Once again, I'm kind of glad things like this happen even to a pro like you and also that you recorded it. Loved the outro. You're such a great entertainer. Thanks, Paul!
The last opponent went in with a deck containing every single pick in their draft, probably by bug or accident. You know because they had 55 cards in the deck (see 47:17) and you get somewhere between 39-42 picks (I'm not sure if there's always a basic in the pack) + some basics. Find it hilarious they managed to pull a W on Paul considering their circumstances.
Sometimes i feel like streamers and "seasoned" magic pro`s forget that limited is more than 40 card 2 color and curve, you can absolutely cook and draft abominations like arrow did, sure they fail sometimes, but those tend to be the most memorable and fun decks if they work.
I don't think they cooked. I legitimiately think they accidentally submitted every card they drafted given they had a Heliod's Pilgrim with no targets. The goal of this channel is to help people improve their games and teach solid fundamentals. Yes, you can draft 5 colors and try to have fun like the deck I drafted but more often than not, a solid two-color mana base with a good curve and interaction will generally yield the best results.
In the last game, it looks like a mistake playing the purphoros emissary instead of bestowing it, but actually it was important to squeeze the last point of damage he needed. Was it really intended or just another crazy play gone good?
kinda have to play a mountain with pilgrim's eye (and a guide) if you can afford it, no? and i think i like 1 vision, mayyybe 2; gives archeologist another hit and plays so well with triple scatter
For this type of deck, specially if you dont have gates ablaze, you need hard removal over essence scatters and bounce. 1 each of dreadbore, selesnya charm, ob nixilis or even the red removal is fine. multiple essence scatter are bad because with this deck sometimes you are forced to tap out, and good players will punish your 2 mana open (with pw, or enchantments, or even card draw in the mirror). The 3cc counters are actually good because of this, i always play at least one. One plaza is needed for this strategy to work, more than one is bad, plaza is specially good with chromanticore. The more archeologists you pick, the better become treasure cruise (1x copy) and the 3/2 ub gravedigger. Also while the angel gains you life, in my experience is not that good, now even boros decks are going over the top with cards like aurelias fury, outpost siege and the 5cc enchantment, though, you NEED some kind of life gain in the deck... (avoid card draw like read the bones, except for scorpion which is good) If you dont pick instant speed removal, is hard to outplay good opponents, thats why i dislike the heavy blue bounce in this archetype. Finally, if you end with a bunch of gust of wind, pick 1x cloudfin raptor if possible, its a great 1x copy card in the deck
Wow. Just wow. That one can get away with this abomination in the final game. There is no justice in this world anymore. Paul: “I am forcing 5 colors for chromanticore, let’s make sure to build a semi-responsible mana base for it” Opponent: “Hold my beer…”
Hey Paul, do you think it's wrong to fp wild slash over ON Cruelty? I believe the black removal is better, but while red is in both boros and rakdos, the cruelty isn't obly in one, so i wonder is fpicking red is better?
Felt like it would be a bit too rude to start the year. It was truly an outrageous way to lose but I’m glad people enjoyed watching me try to keep my composure!
You should always play the best cards that can fit a 40 cards deck so as to improve your chances to get the best cards. If you put one extra card there, that card is always worse than the other 23 already in it, thefore reducing the overall quality of your draws.
Um, he played at least a 50 card deck, meaning he had 10+ extra cards, not 3 or 4. Playing more than 40 cards is always a mistake, you only want your 40 BEST cards so you have a better chance of drawing them. This is extremely basic drafting knowledge.
Watching you lose to a 50 card 5-color abomination while slowly losing your sanity is the peak MTG drafting experience 😂
You are not wrong 😂

That opponent had nonbusiness being in platinum for limited either

That last deck casted 4 blue spells with just one plaza. What a deck.

Not many people know this, but 5-color 54-card Heliod's Pilgrim with no auras is actually the winningest archetype.
So far I've never seen it lose

Yup, totally my reaction when I was killed by a Hidetsugu's Second Rite in Foundation (both times)
