MGK is a great artist, and an artist is "a person who creates art (such as painting, sculpture, music, or writing) using conscious skill and creative imagination." I don't see anything that says an artist HAS to stick to one specific type of art. He is showing us that he can do any genre he feels like doing and be great, just proves he is an amazing artist and people hate it. I don't see the issue or problem most people seem to have with it.
