I would recommend that you shut the power off when your not using!!!! Do not let that unit run unattended!!!!!
I have the same unit, I used to fill a couple tires then took off to store, when I left it was refilling, Came back a hour later my shop had smoke pouring out of it, open the door found the unit still running, shut power off and ran fans to air out shop!!!! Took about a hour to air out!!! I believe the water and oil mix caused the automatic shut off to malfunction!!!! Let me tell you it was a scary situation I don't know what would have happen if I never came back!!!
Waiting for new parts to replace, unit got so hot it completely melted air filter, what ever happen cause unit to never build pressure held at 80psi tank pressure.
Thanks to your video I am understanding a little more about what's going on. And. That oil water mess on the floor!!!
Oil changes will have to be more often!!!! Wondering if a little Lucas oil additive might need to be added to protect moving parts.
Oil and water just doesn't make sense and the moisture filter seem it's not adiquit to solve this problem.

Thank you for. I was about to purchase one of these units. I’m glad I held off.

I would say with certainty that water contaminated oil will 100% reduce life expectancy but in excess it will cause premature failure. Metal on metal doesn't like water it heats up and has little to no lubricity and will cause internal oxidation, metal wear, excessive heat build up and ultimately service failure. The maintenance doesn't look horrible, not ideal and certainly more then I've done on any compressor I've ever owned. I guess you have to weigh the benefits verse the maintenance schedule.
They certainly need to resolve the issue on the water build up, if the units keep destroying themselves they will have a hard time selling them once that starts getting out to the public.
It also may not be an issue for shops where the compressor runs near continuous as it could be from the temperature swings from being cycled to infrequently and the dew point being hit more often then when they run and stay at operating temperature for long periods of time.
As for the nylon washer issue, ditch the bolt and put a fitting with a high pressure valve that is large enough to also fill oil through and check the oil level, that will make that job a bit easier and not wear out the threads or washers for the oil tank. I think I'm still gonna roll the dice on the unit and see if i can engineer some ways to make it easier to maintain, I will keep you posted once I get mine and have a close look at how it all works!
Thanks again for the great detailed video! I think this is going to help a lot of people who are on the fence of getting it but have only had access to advertisement type videos without any real world time in service reports on how they hold up!

Saw on a forum that the oil is very hydrophobic. People are saying use amsoil screw compressor oil.

I'm in the market for one so please do keep us posted on Eastwoods fix for this

Oil coming out of the pressure switch occurs when the oil tank is overfilled or filled with lots of water. Those quarts of oil are a premium, expensive oil. I think they know that water will be mixed with the oil and that’s why they are requiring such expensive, premium oil, to ensure lubricity, even with water. That white, spin-on, water separator filter is at least $60, and it isn’t filtering any water out of the oil if you’re getting that much water out…or does it filter moisture from the compressed air? Yeah, I’m not going to buy this compressor. If I bought this compressor, i wouldn’t be happy with that loud air noise when it’s done charging. I would also replace that Eastwood sticker with a big Ford sticker before making a video about its problems.

I really wanted this but I'm constantly seeing issues with them. I will go with the Emax silent most likely.

You can buy a few quiet air compressors at harbor freight and hook them up in parallel to achieve better results.

@richardjeun Nice. I wasn't aware Harbor Freight had anything like that.

It's too bad Eastwood really shat the bed with this compressor. It's a nice quiet unit with fast cycle times but there are a lot of issues. Its bewildering that they didn't realize this problem before rolling production. I mean, this isn't a leaking o ring or something, this is a big deal. I'm going to have a very expensive paperweight on my hands in the near future

Sorry to hear about the problem.... it is strange, in my opinion, to have water in the oil lube system.. period.

Thank you for these videos. I purchased one late 2020 and just started noticing this type of issue with mine. Did you ever hear back from Eastwood? I asked for the tip sheet they sent you.

Have they came out with a fix for this yet? Shame. This has so much potential. Hopefully other manufacturers go a similar route with scroll or screw compressor so the prices will be more competitive. A lot of people need air they don't have room for

Just got one of these. Really silly to have to take the cover all the way off, wish they had relocated the valve to keep it easy. I've only taken the cover on and off once and that was enough for me. Probably just gonna leave the screws out if I have to do this all the time. How often are you purging the water?

    • @oldmanfixingstuff3722

Eastwood told me to do it after every use. I do it based on usage, so with my usage, it's once a week to check. If I was using air tools all day, I would check it every day at first to see how much water gets in the oil. After a few checks, you will know.

They are to come up with a fix. Give them a call and let them know you are having this issue. I would ask for the fix when it comes out. Until then drain the water out.

@@oldmanfixingstuff3722 Fiac's scroll air compressors already deal with this. They have an oil heater to make sure to evaporate any moisture in the oil. Eastwood should do the same.

@@oldmanfixingstuff3722 Just bought one of these a month ago. The "fix" thus far is a plastic hose and a bottle to drain the water into.
