- I know lots of you have been asking about where I came from and why I look the way I do. It took mommy a few days because she works and had to get some back history. So here I go. My vet says I am approximately 15 years old (but we will never really know). I am a Goffins Cockatoo and we typically live 40-60 years.
I had a daddy a long time ago who loved me very much and I lived with him for a long time and then he died which made me very sad because I loved him a lot.
His family did not know what to do with me so I got passed around a lot. I ended up with one family member who put me in a basement by myself because they didn't like my yelling (I just wanted attention plus you know I am a bird and we do that). They got mad that I was still screaming so they put me outside for a long time by myself in a very small cage with no toys and only 1 perch. They weren't very nice and would yell and throw things at my cage when I would yell for attention. I stayed in my cage for 5 years and was never allowed to leave.
Eventually another family member came and got me and dumped me at a pet store where I lived for a year and they kept me in the same tiny cage and fed me sausage rolls and sausage McMuffins (how did I know this wasn't good for me?) They kept me covered because they didn't like my screaming either I swear I just wanted attention. The owner said I had to go.
One day this really nice lady came in and it was the first time anyone had tried to hold me in so long! I was so happy and she was such a nice lady I let her hold me and I was just so happy to have someone pay attention to me I went home with her! I lived with this nice lady for 2 years but sadly her mommy got very sick. She said her brain wasn't right anymore and would leave windows and doors open and would spray poisonous stuff around the house (it wasn't her fault she didn't know she was sick) so mommy thought the safest place for me would be to go to the rescue in the hopes that I would find another nice family that would understand and love me. She was so sad and cried but I know she only did it to make me safe.
The nice people at Florida Parrot Rescue took me in and my mommy and daddy (now) volunteered to foster me. They only had me for a few months before they fell in love me (I mean who couldn't love this!) and adopted me forever and ever.
For those that don't know birds like me who go through traumatic things like this it is very hard on us. Like you we bond very deeply with our humans and when they are mean we start bad habits sometimes kind of like when you guys bite your fingernails (feather pulling). Mommy and daddy are working on this with me but it's going to be a long process and I may never be able to get over the ugly people. But I know I am loved and mommy and daddy let me out to dance and hold me all the time! I eat really good now and they don't even mind it when I scream (probably because my birdie sister has a bigger mouth).
Anyway, I sure am happy now and now I get to dance my heart out for the rest of my life!

I think this bird has more intelligence, heart, soul, dignity, character, AND honor than most humans. Not to mention the personality. How can a person not, how can they not, how can they NOT like animals??? If we could get rid of ALL politicians and most of society's "adults" and listen more to our children and our animals we'd be M.U.C.H. better off!!

It's merely being suggested this bird has a more robust personality than most people. (Which is VERY true) Not to mention character, dignity, honor, heart, soul, courage, and determination.

@@mattgg1216 More than likely a rescue who probably came from a bad situation and dealt with a lot of stress. They pull their feathers out when stressed.

I adore this little birdie. What an amazing little dancer. Her dance moves are so creative and perfect! She even remembers that Michael Jackson says "oooooo" (or something similar)in this song as she mimics that. The lyrics she adds are on target and in tune. She's even the perfect adlibbing songstress. Even her rhythm is perfect! What a treasure! My heartfelt condolences to her owners. But I believe she'll be waiting for you in heaven. She's incredible.❤❤❤❤❤
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life. That bird suffered so much it fully realized its ability to appreciate happiness to its absolute fullest degree. What a cute little character.

It seems to me that birds in that general family (cockatoos, cockatiels, parrots, etc.) tend to love music and have pretty decent rhythm. Maybe that's part of why they can imitate human sounds? Or maybe their ability to imitate human sounds gives them rhythm. Now I wish I was an ornithologist who studied this.

I shared a few of Griffi’s videos with my husband today. (He loves the Beastie Boys so I started with that one.) In seconds, he was laughing so hard he was crying. He needed the laugh. It’s been a hard few weeks for him. So thank you for sharing this sweet little bird with the rest of us. She is adorable and my husband is now a huge fan of Griffi’s! God bless you for rescuing her and for nursing her back to the adorable soul she is. Griffi has obviously found joy in living with you.

So fun to see birds dance, and this one’s particularly talented. She’s really matching the rhythm there and that was a very Jackson-esque “Hoooo!” noise.

This is adorable. Not the same dance move over and over either. Moves around, changes the dance move. Griffi may have lost some feathers but that rhythm and those brain cells are still working great!
It's indeed uncommon to see such an amount of variety in a parrot's dance. Most of them have one way of bobbing their head to the music, some move a bit more, like using their wings, and there are some videos of good dancers. But Giffi really has some serious talent. My grandparents had an African Grey. He was very clever in regard to speaking and using his vocabulary in creative ways, but his dancing was rather dull. And of all the many budgies I've had so far, only one had a lot of variety in his dance moves (plus he was a talker). Seems like parrots do have more or less individual talent for dancing just like humans.

Griffi is a rescue. So she probably came from a home where she wasnt getting enough stimulation. When birds get depressed they can self-harm & destroy their own feathers by plucking

Just found Griffi, going through all the uploads at the moment. What a perfect little dancer. First time you see Griffi, you think wtf, poor bird then when you get into it it's heartwarming that Griffi is now with a family that seems to be doing everything to make Griffi happy. I think everyone is rooting for Griffi. Also is it just me or does Griffi look happier and more relaxed in each upload?
I first saw the bird in a thumbnail, and felt bad, thought stuff like “it probably can’t fly” and that kind of things. But I’m actually blown away by how the bird dances! This is absolutely crazy! Look at it! There’s no way it’s not dancing to the music! This is incredible!

I am so thankful this precious creature has a forever home where she’s loved and well cared for. I pray that some day she becomes confident and secure to stop over preening her feathers. Not to make herself more beautiful because she’s already beautiful, but for her health.

I think they are concerned with why this bird is chewing it's feathers out and they assume the owner is at fault. They have no idea that the bird was a rescue animal and pulls out the feathers due to stress from the previous home.

I had an African Grey who plucked but adored Leonard Cohen & loved singing along. These poor creatures snatched from the wild for profit can find a different kind of joy with compassionate people. They generally love showers🦅

He is so cute! And has more rhythm than a lot of guys I've danced with, lol. Thanks, Mommy for sharing Griffi's story. It's a sad one, but like a fairy tale it has a happy ending. He has a real family again and even a sister. Plus he now has lots of online friends. We really enjoy his dancing, he seems so happy when he's dancing and watching him makes us happy too.
