Thanks for this, I've got a busted Virtual Boy and while I have the ribbon replacement kit that's always been a daunting fix for my skills. What you've shown on your video actually looks doable, now I just have to work up the courage to go ahead with it!
I've seen a few of these solder tutorials. A lot of them seem overwhelming with all the details but this one seems the most doable so I'm gonna give it a shot! Just one question, what temperature did you set your soldering iron to? What would you recommend?
Saving the original ribbon and doing this fix is a waste of time. The glue holding onto the ribbon will eventually come undone and you’ll probably need to go in again. Just buy a permanent ribbon cable fix kit and replace those POS OEM ribbon cables.

Flux is your friend! (And leaded 63/37 solder) Godspeed.

Glad it's built up your confidence! Temp: 650F with plenty of flux. Godspeed! Let us know how it goes.
A throwback video. Yay!!!
My cousin had a VirtualBoy, and we used to play it in the prone position... Talk about neck pain!!
The things we did as kids… LOL

What glue are you referring to? If the ribbon leads are now soldered and caption tape is placed for strain relief I don’t see how it’ll fail.
why the fuck do you want to save them
