I visited Tom and saw the masterpiece in person. Just amazing! It will be auctioned at the Mecum Kissimmee auction January 14. Can't wait to see what bids it brings.
@@Volterrific I'd rate that 56 concept car (now that it's restored) right up there with the Batmobile, the Gulf Oil Ford GT40, Carol Shelby's aluminum bodied 427 Cobra, LIttle Deuce Coupe, etc. Should be at Pebble Beach Auto Show.
@@tompastian3447 agreed on all counts. Ford’s best stylists including Larry Shinoda and John Najjar designed the XM-Turnpike Cruiser. The car will be auctioned on January 14 at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida. Whoever buys it will be lucky (and rich), and yes show it at Pebble Beach.

When the production 1957-58 Turnpike Cruiser was a sales flop, Ford wanted to be rid of the concept car which had already outlived its usefulness. Unlike GM which retained their concept cars, Ford disposed of most of them after the show car circuit. It's remarkable how that total wreck of a car was restored by Tom Maruska in 2022. Total Magic really.

My uncle then my dad had a 65 . Blue with red interior. Loved that car.
There's a lot going on everywhere you look on that car, Ii even remember seeing those as a kid, they were so distinctive!
An inspired-- and inspiring--restoration. 😍
I saw the vid of the concept car, and it is unbelievable!
The blonde posing with the XM in the final shot was a model named Jerry Sardiz.
I had one of them cars in high school in the late 1960s,it was a cool car.
Very beautiful perfect looking car wow thanks friend have a very nice day
The concept car is outstanding. (only one)
The power memory seat was way ahead of it time my car has that feature.
My two favorite features of the turnpike concept car are gull wing glass roof panels and the exhaust outlets in the rear lower quarters.
The concept cars were so cool. But as they got into production they took all the cool factor out of most.

No it did not sell at the auction. However, it did sell privately a few weeks after the auction.
Lol it only cruises on turnpikes. (Humor is difficult to achieve online.) This is a great presentation on a unique automobile. Thanks.

It's a little sad , how degraded some people let that car get. Good it was saved though.
Ford sent it to the crusher after the 1956 auto show circuit. Thankfully it made a detour and wasn’t crushed. And it’s now restored to perfection.
