Who do you think these young kids are? Status Quo! This is a recording from 1970 by the group that would later become legendary as the 'Frantic Four.' They look so young and full of energy that it's hard to believe that two members of the Frantic Four, Alan Lancaster and Rick Parfitt, have passed away. Now, they are presenting you with about 12 minutes of a feast: watching John Coghlan's extraordinary drumming skills and passion. John is 77 years old today and retired. He just spends his time at home with his wife, Gill. However with new musicians filling in for the ones we've lost, Francis Rossi and Andy Bown are still carrying on the spirit of Status Quo and continue to put on very successful concerts. 'Is it really me' and 'Gotto go home' are actually based on the same musical structure. The same music is played slowly with different lyrics, and when it speeds up, the lyrics change to match the tempo. I think it's incredibly beautiful! I always get emotional and cry when watching, especially in the first part. I don't know why. Maybe it's because of the emotion when it's played slowly or perhaps because I can't quite come to terms with the loss of Parfitt and Lancaster, who knows?

It didn't take them long to transition out of the psychedelic era (with Pictures of Matchstick Men), and into the rock boogie era. Matchstick Men was in 1967. What was their first rock boogie song/album?

Brilliant performance of the young band. They were still quite psychedelic back then.
Years later it was "4500 times" that turned to their stage marathon tune.

Yeah, I thought Krautrock was German.
Kraut is a German word recorded in English from 1918 onwards as an ethnic slur for a German, particularly a German soldier during World War I and World War II.

Found early gig dates for Quo and found one back in 1971 at a Rugby Club in Cornwall. They were there on 16 July, we got there the day after on holiday. Couldn't believe it went I saw their name written in chalk for the previous night! They would have been performing this....!!

Now imagine, from 'Ma Kelly's' up to 'Live' each of their record has been recorded the same way: Fucking LIVE! The 7" 'Wild side of life' was actually the first release which was recorded using different tracks. Every record before was the whole equipment into the studio, set all up, rehearse and record it LIVE. This has been repeated once later with 'Rock 'til you drop' where they stood on a stage and recorded the whole stuff with the Fleetwood mobile.
