The arrogant Englishman at 3:10 laughing at the story of Michael Dwyer until he learned he was actually a British general...watch the laugh wiped from his face. His attitude epitomises so many of his countrymen...Dwyer in 1919 massacred 400 people..."it's a very small reduction of the birthrate"...what a tragic remark and attitude.
Brendan Behan comments about racism and imperialism are decades before it was an issue to discuss. The man was a visionary. The brain and liver called it a day.Next one on me!
Go Uncle Breandan! Love the comment ref irrelevance: 'Yes you may as well bring rheumatism into it!'. Listening to this clip on day of Shane McGowan: RIP influenced by Brendan as shown in the lyrics of the song he wrote for Brendan; the world loses another literary visionary light....Jessie Paton: 30/11/23.
The Amritsar massacre "reduced the birthrate"? That English bloke is a sick man!... WAS... rather. I can see that this is a very old TV show. But I would phone in if I heard this kind of crap today!
Was wondering if you have any information about this canadian show, like date aired, broadcasting station, and maybe where I can find a transcript of this episode.
I know this is a Canadian Broadcasting Corp show and they have an archive. www.cbc.ca/archives/entry/fighting-words-the-perils-of-independence-and-irish-cry-babies
Does anyone know who the (presumably) American on the far left side of the panel is? the guy who continuously brings a righteous hammer of justice down on Mr. 'Three distinct categories' on the far right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@benthejrporter Yep this was the Nation that growing and production of Opium by the hundreds of tons... then via 'The East Indian Company' sold same to China to keep that Nations people subservient by doping them up to the gills, but when the rebelled against this practice..the Gunboats and troops were sent in thus the ''Opium Wars' kicked off, Firstly by British and 'The British East India Company ... then later by the British and French during the second Opium War...
How poignant and relevant a video. To think, both the american and Englishman are condemning the Russians for doing what they themselves have done in Iraq. History repeating.
I see nothing has changed in the way of televised politics. What a joke. The British fellow is correct, and also the most respectful and the most reasonable. And yet, he's constantly interrupted and written off with childish, predictable comparisons to caricature versions of dictators and a slew of other mindless insults. When the British government gave Jamaica full-on independence, practically overnight, everyone complained that it was "too quick". They called them "evil" and said they needed to gradually give them independence in small steps. So you see, it's never good enough. It's never, evet good enough.
Jesus wept the British fellow is correct ? Respectful ? you wouldn't be the sharpest knife in the drawer would you? the Irishman just put him in his place when he referred to him as Eichmann in relation to the pompous prick mocking the 400 Indians that were massacred
Ireland was where the British Empire perfected the art of genocide beginning with Cromwell at Navan. This continued until the Black and Tans were asked to leave . Things have improved ,I have seen two comedians on British TV start to say "Taking the M" and stop and say "taking the piss . That at least shows respect .
Most of the tinkers in Ireland are descendants of people who began travelling 360 years ago because of Cromwell. It wasn’t the Great Famine as many of us thought. DNA analysis has proved it.
