Cost has gone up from the original but still fantastic value for these things. Thanks to Erik for the continued development.
The nice thing about this SA is that it reflects your face.
Pro tip: If you never clean the display it slowly turns it into a matte display.
I would welcome a video on updating the firmware in the TinySA Ultra! I have not performed any updates because I would rather have an old working version than end up with a "brick".
It is impossible to make it "a brick" because of DFU mode of STM32 microcontroller inside.
@@slavisaasus I don't have much faith in this Chinese stuff, but I may give it a shot. Thanks!
@@DavidJohnstone-hi9kr No worries, I have done it dozen times. It is Dutch designed although made in China. Feel free to ask me for detailed instructions if stuck. 73 de YU1SR.
Yes, do a video on FLASHING the TinySA Ultra!
Yes please show us the flashing procedure! Thank you!
Nice video. I just got the latest TinySA Ultra+ model ZS-406 from Zeenko. ZS-407 just came out also.
Thanking you for the information
Video title: "TinySA ULTRA in 2025" 2025 ? I hope that you had a nice Xmas and had a very lovely New Year. 🙂
Not much will change between now and 17 days from now, so he's just preparing for the "best tinysa in 2025" searches to get some more views :) Smart
thanks for the reply!
Multi-band is automatically set up by the harmonics feature (MEASURE->HARMONIC) if you enter a span other than 0=FULL. It is useful for monitoring narrow bands over a large part of the spectrum and can be considerably faster than a full scan.
Nice device for someone on a budget. Along with being an SA and tracking generator, its sweep osc. can be used as a single signal generator with variable output levels to test receivers.
I would really appreciate a firmware update video. My ultra is way out of date because of the convoluted mess that is tinysa ultra fw updates. They wanted me to disable windows security features that require a system restore to get back along with installing unsigned drivers. If you've got a less horrible way than I'd love to see it.
Happy Christmas 🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄 Christmas 🎁🎄
There is a new hardware version, the tinySA Ultra+ ZS406.
From Hugen:
"We will gradually replace the current version of tinySA ULTRA (ZS-405) with the new tinySA ULTRA Plus (ZS-406 and ZS-407).
A brief overview of their differences:
Batteries:
ZS-405 3000mAh Continuous use 8 hours
ZS-406 5000mAh Continuous use 12 hours
ZS-407 5000mAh Continuous use 10 hours
Normal mode:
ZS-405 100k-800MHz
ZS-406 100k-900MHz
ZS-407 100k-900MHz
ULTRA mode:
ZS-405 800MHz-5.3GHz
ZS-406 900MHz-5.4GHz
ZS-407 900MHz-7.3GHz
LNA effective frequency:
ZS-405 100kHz-3.5GHz
ZS-406 100kHz-3.5GHz
ZS-407 100kHz-7.3GHz, below 20MHz, the noise figure of the LNA is worse."
@tiftik a zs-406 is on its way to my home 😃
@@tiftik What's the point of all this? Until they make a wider dynamic range, and the noise level especially in the high-frequency part of the spectrum, in my opinion all this is meaningless...
@@Иван-у7т7пonly the 407 could test emissions of a 5.8ghz WiFi antenna
Be nice if it could be used as a receiver for SSB HF spectral checking.
There’s a Janky clone of the Ultra going around. Though it gives credit to Eric K , it doesn’t look right. I’m glad the original is still available.
I would love having one in a oscilloscope style body with separate buttons for the functions.
I would have one if I worked on or owned old ham rigs to check harmonics. Or build homebrew transmitters from old plans. Find out if you should put them on an antenna or not.
I bought a TinySA ultra + version 406 few days ago. It turned out an upgraded version of TinySA ultra. Though the SA’s shell doesn’t have printed letters. Genuine? It works pretty well though
Be careful who you buy it from. There is a lot of hacks and clones out there being sold with very crappy parts and don’t perform nearly as good as the real McCoy.
stage curtain...mr carlsons lab 1936 stromberg-carlson radio on a spectrum anlizer.
I would love to see a video on re-flashing it please.
Saw you! 😂
Nothing like I had pictured him !!
If it only goes to 800Mhz, that stuff at the far right isn't wifi - I think it's a new cellular band they opened up below 800Mhz after they relocated all TV stations to on or below CH 36 (below 608MHz) in July 2020. Cellular is just gobbling up the entire spectrum slowly. The lowest wifi band in common usage is 2.4Ghz, you can get 900MHz wifi gear, but it's not consumer level stuff.
From a verified Aliexpress seller, they're about $120.. pretty good for the Ultra. On Amazon they're a hundred more.
Hmm they already mention new ZS406 on web page but where is the new ZS407 (that was announced on mailing lists)...
Yes, I'd like to see a video on firmware updating of the TinySA, and Ultra, and also one on the NanoVNA with DiSlord's firmware updates. Those "tiny differences" in instructions drive me nutz. I'm a good hardware tech, but I learned much of it just before the advent of the PC, so I never even took a class in BASIC. I spent so much time on hardware stuff that I didn't even have spare time to learn to type, let alone learn software, firmware development. These days the firmware downloads can get weird, especially with information from different sources providing different instructions, and different versions of the products, and the information being undated so I can't even figure out which is older and which is newer, lack of date-time chronology being one of my pet peeves with web info and documentation.
I find that while neither the TinySA nor the NanoVNA is a "full featured device," still they both do 90% to 95% of what might be needed, particularly for a hobbyist, for less than 1% of the price of the full-blown instrument. My Anritsu Spectrum Master sold for over $40K new, and I just use my TinySA for almost everything these days. I doubt I'll use the Anritsu again unless someone wants me to tune up a set of repeater cans and I need the lowest possible noise floor.
Thank you for this video sir.. I have a Dji mini 2 se drone and would like to measure the rf power in dBm from the controller and or the drone. There are no direct hook ups so It would have to be measured through the air. Do you think this meter would do that? Thank you in advance...
No. You need direct connection
@@IMSAIGuy Thank you for the reply.. Back to the drawing board. :)
Birthday next year in January Do have a VNA and Freq generator. This one is next. On my birthday of course
Looks like there's two new hardware revisions (406,407) with higher bandwidths coming, the latter coming out after the new year, but this shop has just sent you another of the existing model... 🤦
Please add your firmware flashing video.
I used mine to figure out where in my 'watering hole' were the best seats for 4/5g connection. Must check for firmware updates. Darn it! Way out of date. Must sort that.
How can the signal be from WiFi if the SA was not in ultra mode and your range showing 800 MHz in the upper edge?
Put me on the flash list also please.
can you use this to align tube radios?
not the way mr c did. his spectrum analyzer has a tracking generator
Please add my vote for a video on updating.
Number 2080
It can also be used as a mirror :)
Can this be used as an antenna SWR analyzer? Mainly for the 1.8 to 54 MHz and 144 MHz ranges.
No. You need a nanovna
@IMSAIGuy thanks for clarifying!

No loud burps into the mic.
I knew I forgot something
Can it find a downlink frequency, say, if you see a mysterious drone overhead? wink wink. You could use a WA5VJB log periodic PC board antenna for that, maybe.
Yeah, one folk in Ukraine hacked firmware to help with drones detection..
@@PatrickOnEngineering But this is over the head of the whole state of NJ, DoD, FAA, FCC, etc?
@@TomSherwood-z5l no one cares about US institutions outside the US 😂
The drones use frequency hopping so it is extremely difficult to detect the signal since the transmitted frequency will stay on a single hop only for milliseconds.
@ detect, identify, locate or decode? Define what is “extremely difficult”. Just a detection isn’t complicated.
Yeah, hell i dont even know your name...lol
How about an introduction video?

Old version 100K~800MHZ, NEW version 100K~900Mkz。。Not much improvement
But the thing is called TinySA ultra. Take a look at the ultra parameters ;-)
