- From Charleston SC we made a 4 days passage direct to New York. Arriving into The Big Apple on a glorious last day of June, we cruised by the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, western Manhattan, then moored up the Hudson. After a wonderful 24 hour visit of Manhattan, we departed via East River into Long Island Sound, towards Boston. 26 June - 1 July 2018
Can’t get over how good this is. Perfect pictures on my tv on my Dehler. Always planned to sail to the Caribbean, but now I see, New York is possible!
I do so appreciate how careful you are to do slow pans in order to show the sights that I'll never be able to see otherwise. Love the shots of the boat and the sails. So much better than the other sailing channels that just have talking heads. Love your videos!
Thanks for the lovely comment :)
Wow direct from Charleston to NYC in four days - thats great! We were on the southbound route but jumped in and out as we were in winter and the weather was terrible! Just was reminiscing on our NYC East River transit as we just made our video of it when I came across your video! Fair winds!
I love what you're doing. Leave no sight unseen!
Sorry as an American, I cannot say I am completely comfortable with the phrase "the British are sailing into New York Harbor...". :)
LoL. We will retake the colonies .... one day!
Lmao
New York New York, short stay is a good stay. Lol one third of the world I have done with you guys 😉. Can't wait for more.
welcome to my town... parked in my old hood... gorgeous photography...ty
We're coming back mid September. Lookout!
"Not exactly stunning sailing." Looked quite comfortable to me, decent speed too given the light winds!
Thank you for the excellent quality of your videos. Sadly, though, you missed the most beautiful part of the Hudson River.....North of the George Washington Bridge, which has been called "America's Danube." I will admit to some prejudice. I lived the first 24 years of my life in a home on the Hudson, in NJ, 1 mile South of the GW Bridge. The bridge and I came into this world the same summer. Our family cruised the Hudson first in Dad's 24' Elco cabin cruiser and later in his 52' Wheeler. In those days, the 79th St. Yacht Basin was the only place that could supply the 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel "BOBBY" held. Now that I have found your Vlog, I am looking foward to starting at your beginning and living vicariously through your beautifully filmed adventures. the Old Coastie.
John, thanks for the comment. There are just sooo many places we would have liked to visit but will not get to this year. Up the Hudson was indeed one of them. Incidentally, as we made passage up to Maine, we intended to get there as fast as possible for mid summer then saunter back south slowly, which is what we are now doing. Still too much to see though on this amazing coast of yours :-)
Can't fault you for that. Who wouldn't want to be in Maine in mid-Summer. Bon Voyage, I'll be with you all the way. the Old Coastie.
We anchored close to this marina 1/2 mile north. Much more better than tied up inside the marina.
Yes, wished we had too!
Lol....”a whole lot nothing goes on in there”. Wish the US would just get out of the UN. Waste of our money.
Love your videos and appreciate your sharing your trip we us! Maybe one day I will meet up with guys on my travels.
Thanks for watching!
nice vid,keep them coming!
Short visit , good thinking
Bill, we had been heading Charleston to Boston, but decided a make a quick stop over in NY given the weather was lovely. Plus we wanted that "coming into NYC" view. We knew when we returned that we would be approaching from Long Island Sound via the East River, not quite the same.
That's very cool! but you should have docked at the battery park in NYC, wow
!
Great vid ya'll.
I thought you guys also bought a parasaillor at some point bt never seen you use it? Have you done away with that one? Nice video :D
Yes we have o e and have used it quite a bit coming back from the windwards to USA. But we haven’t done those videos yet. As we had such a backlog to edit we thought we’d start fresh this season and catch up with the others when we can.
@@SailCloudyBay Cool, I'll be looking fw to seeing that beast in action then :)
what a dream yacht! Which bank do I have to rob to get one?
Indeed, Cloudy Bay is our dream yacht ..... been dreaming of having one of these all my years of working. Actually, a used boat like this is less expensive than you might think. No way could we have afforded a new one. That said, we'd be happy to watch you rob a (little) bank!
@@SailCloudyBay Thanks for the motivation. I’m starting digging the tunnel…
What are the costs of docking in NY and Boston? Is there some place to anchor?
New York cheapest was $160 per night at 176st boat basin. Terrible "marina". The others were multiple amounts more! Boston we dont know because we anchored there.
Get US out of the UN & get the UN out of US
Great video...
Did you say $2600 a night?
Sorry Thomas, no. The sound on that part was bad. The (so called) marina we stayed in was $160 per night, but the others ranged from $400-800 per night.
If you find your way back that way go to Liberty Landing in New Jersey, a stone's throw away from Manhattan and a cheap ferry ride across and you would have had a not so terrible night of bashing around.
