  • I take a walk on Kings Highway in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn. This street was originally an Indian trail, but is now home to many restaurants, businesses, and residences. It is named after the Brooklyn's county name of Kings, which was named in honor of Kings Charles II of England.

    Actionkid!!!!! You read my mind!!!!!
    Earlier, the day you filmed this, I'd just become aware of the King's Highway and researched it, craving more knowledge and exposure to it.
    Thank you again. You are a true artist to include the lovely black part as an addendum - brilliant.
    I have the lady sipping a drink in front of "Georgia (something)" in my mind now in an artful way.
    Keep up the original and irreplaceable work.🌼

    Kings Highway does not terminate in Flatlands today. It terminates at East 98th Street near Clarkson Avenue, at the border of East Flatbush and Brownsville.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right! It goes on for much further than the Flatlands. The southeastern corner of Kings Highway historically used to be there.

      @@ActionKid Yup, I actually lived in Brooklyn for 40 years. Most of the time on East 51 Street near Avenue O, not too far from Kings Plaza. I consider that part of Flatlands, other people say "Old Mill Basin", others say Marine Park. All those neighborhoods seem to blend into each other, LOL!

    I grew up in the house at 1728 E8th St, It is behind the Mirage Diner (19:48). I left Brooklyn in 1973, We lived on E8th St from 1957 until about 1970, from the time I was 12 years old until I got married. The stores have changed but my block looks the same, except the Mirage Diner used to be Sal & Sam's Esso Gas Station (actual they were both Sal). The theatre next to the diner used to be called the Jewel Theatre, it played adult films like Bridgette Bardot, risque stuff, The box office closed about 9:30 but the doors remained unlock and I would sneak in after walking my dog at night.

    I used to live on Quentin Rd for 5 yrs with my family right there off of Kings Hwy! I loved the area. Not too much crime to speak of and there are 3 subway train lines on Kings Hwy--the N, F, and the Q, so there was always a way to get somewhere without excuses! I loved the area and still do whenever I go to visit. Thanks so much posting this---brings about great memories :)

    You can also see the predominantly Syrian Jewish part of Gravesend the next time you visit. It's a few blocks east when you were close to Ocean Parkway, close to the public school P.S 215. There are a lot of beautiful homes there in a quiet neighborhood, think like Prospect Park South and Fiske Terrace but not colonial style.

    09:05 van Sicklen Street.....Dutch history: The Lady Moody-Van Sicklen House is a rare surviving example of an 18th century Dutch-American farmhouse and a reminder of Brooklyn’s agricultural past. In addition to being one of the oldest houses in Brooklyn, it is also the borough’s only extant house of its age and type to be built of stone. Landmark

    Great pizza on Staten Island, lots of great pizza, including Denino's, an institution and has been around since 1932. Joe and Pat's pizza is another one...and no matter where you go, there's quality pizza on Staten Island, and less generic stuff than other boroughs. I think the Bronx has the least of the high end great pizzas out of all the boros.

    I just realized something: New York isn't all that's cracked up to be.

      You have to go to Manhattan where the action is the city not in the borough of Kings Highway there's nothing here at all nothing to see here believe me I've lived in Brooklyn New York and worked in Manhattan for half of my life then I moved out into Maryland moved around the country a little bit not going to name every place I went I'm living in Brooklyn again directly across the street from the boardwalk in Brighton Beach.

      @@Mr.Robert1 I see. In this case, it wouldn't be crazy for each of these boroughs to be a city of their own then. They're individually huge anyway.
