There’s a lot of that going on where people don’t listen you’d be surprised how many good players, hire me to train their wives because they won’t listen to them.
As someone who is still kind of new to the game ( about 8 - 9 months) I spotted what you were going to do on the #2 problem with ball in hand ( 2- 3 & 7) before you showed what you were going to do, in other words I knew you were going for the 2 -3 -7 in that order BEFORE you did it because that's what I would have tried to do.
I have had to waste so many timeouts because a lower SL wants to shoot an unnecessary combo......drives me crazy! Another great vid B! I have a whole list of people im sharing this with! LMAO😅
You talk about what many instructors don’t talk about the reality is that players watch what needs to be done but never actually do it and the mere fact that these are very common scenarios that come up and thou it makes them look silly its teachers like you that make them aware of why they may not and isn’t getting better. Good video as always. I missed with ball in hand at a tournament the other night, lol. My brain was thinking of cue ball position and not making the shot. It is nice to be getting out though. After a long lay off and a couple other issues. I am finally getting part of my stroke back.
Suggestion for a future video. I have heard guys say, I play much better after x beers. Perhaps someone that plays too mechanical vs with good flow, might play well after a few. I’m a methodical player, but I occasionally practice a rack fast just to learn to be athletic with my stroke. My theory is never drink until after match if you want to play your best.
I will say this. In competition I used to play a little better with a cocktail in me. Only enough to take the edge/nerves off, but your senses arent affected yet. My wife and I ride motorcycles. We lived in the mountains of southern california with tons of twisty roads. She was terrified of the turns and most people know that a scared rider makes bad mistakes. I told her to have a drink before we rode(once again not drunk but enough to take the edge off) and she rode those twisties like the wind. No longer have to do it as the more you do it the more routine it is. PSA...I dont condone drinking and riding...lol
Watching ur videos helped me a lot I'm new to league but my dad had been teaching me for years altho in only 2 matches in everyone tells me they can't wait to see me in a year thanks for all ur lessons and videos. My 2 biggest issues are long shots and learning the diamond system, any suggestions?
At 2:45 , my preference is to place the cue ball part way between the 10 and 3 ball, so that the cue ball will do a moderate cut on the 3. This shot is shorter than playing along the length of the table, plus the cue ball gently comes off the rail and in line for a straight shot on the 7 ball.
One of my favorite things to see is there’s four balls on the table not a one of them touching and someone tries combo in the nine instead of running out
If I got a dollar for every time I saw my opponent with ball in hand place the cue ball facing dead straight towards the object ball, I could buy multiple P3s with Revo shafts. 😂
Has to be ppl lining shots straight on with no angle. Or, they think they're giving themselves an angle, but in reality it's not enough of an angle. Grinds my gears.
Here’s another huge mistake that belongs in the top 10. You need to follow a ball 8’ down the long rail to get on the money ball, the player puts the cue ball 4” away, shoots with max high, and then stands up with a puzzled frown when whitey only goes 2’ instead of 8’. Seen it a million times. If the cue ball is too close it will slide for the first little bit, and not pick up the natural rolling spin needed for follow action to work. Put whitey 7-8” away, the shot is no harder, and follow through is easier.
I thought number 1 would be always taking a straight-in shot with BIH. I use to play weekly in a local bar tournament, I saw so many people line up a straight-in shot and I was thinking "Okay, but you won't make the next shot."
#1 I see in league from lesser players has to be placing CB for a straight in shot with no play after making that ball, also I see very few safeties played from BIH. My friend and I play daily. One of our rules is that if you miss hitting your object ball. It’s Ball-in-hand for the opponent. I attempted a three-ball combo, the first ball was #1, the second ball was #2, and the third ball was #3 (I feel the object ball is #3). I hit #1 and #2 in my shot but missed #3. I picked up the cue ball and handed it to him saying I missed the object ball, he said that I did hit the object ball. Which is the object ball #1, 2 or 3?
Omg I totally agree with the number 1 problem, early when I was playing pool. There was guys I was playing against when I first started. Would intentionally miss to not fix problems. Higher ranked players would say let the lesser player fix the problem. The problem with that theory, was what happens if the other person comes to the table and makes another problem for you. Now the person who had one problem now has two. Doing the right thing, normally rewards you in pool. Giving up the table doesn’t.
Thank you I have been stepping up on my games I'm a one in APA heading to las Vegas to 9 ball our team I beat a player about beat me all the time he is a good 2 going on 3. But .I know I'll be moved up to a 2 when we play..there . can't wait to play out there again went for 2020-2021 world pool championship.but due to a earache. So I didn't get to play .we are a bunch of misfits that pulled off a some great games ..
The number 1 issue i see is when a 2 or 3 has a ball on the short rail and they shoot it straight and leave the cue on the rail for the next shot,especially when it is down table.I told the low players on my team they are NOT allowed to do that 😂
A few problems... Not addressing the problems early on and having to play hero ball at the end and not being focused enough to complete the runout because they already think they won.
I was taught a long time ago the ABC's. A's are out in the open. B's are balls on rails, and C's obviously are tied up and blocked from pockets that need opened up. So off of the break if this is the reality then I have to figure out the pattern to the key ball and if I don't see the table run out then I have to play into a safety against my opponent. Great video.
Number one problem I have is thinking I can run out with ball in hand where there are multiple clusters on the table. I usually break a cluster up and create another cluster in the process that forces me to play safe and usually lose the rack. Baiting my opponent into breaking the cluster is definitely something I have to think about next time.

One mistake I see people making often is coming into clusters with too much speed. Many seem to think they HAVE to hit a cluster with speed when many times they just need to cause separation... I believe you've already made a video on this topic already though.

Brian I played my first game of 9 ball last week race to 7, I ran 6 racks thanks to your advice, but I was playing a far better and younger player lost 7-6 but really enjoyed the game, ive found I now get the occasional twitch in my older age, probably like the Yips in golf putting but I can't wait to go back again and play more

This might be the best instructional video that I've seen or intermediate players in 10 years. Too many low ranked players on that 3 2 7 8 out would have lined up straight on one of their balls and been done after. I would have played it slightly different than in the video as I would have shot the 7 ball to the side pocket with follow, soft two and used 3 as key, but as pointed out many different ways to do it. BUT, again. This video is really good for making one think about position, especially with ball in hand. Btw, I've watched a number of your videos. This one made me hit the subscribe button. Reason, when working with my lower ranked player nothing is as frustrating as watching what they do with ball in hand. Most frustrating, when a 2 sets the cue ball an inch behind the ball they're shooting at next.
I had the unique experience of spending 3 hours with Bryan today. My observations are.... He has amazing observational and communication skills. In a short three hours... he has transformed my game..... And.... aside from his tutoring abilities... he has an amazing personality. I noticed I said that twice but I wasn’t going to take the time to edit it out. The math is 3×2×1. We could count combination shots and make the number to 12 - But my favorite is the over 5000 ways to run seven balls in an eight ball rack. 7x6x5x4x3x2x1 - My videos are unscripted so I’m sure to make a couple of mistakes over 17 minutes. Bryan, I don't usually comment, so this one will have to do. I learn a lot from your instructional videos! Your rail shot video helped me make rail shots as well, or better, than "easier" shots! I'm commenting on THIS video because your sense of humor (amusement at these ball-in-hand situations) made learning fun. I always think of option #1 when I have ball in hand, but now I have a few more options to consider. Thank you, very much!
Bryan, let me first say that the information you provide is second to none. You have so many videos, all of which are excellent to help any player advance. The only hard part is deciding where and what video to watch. I would like to ask if you have any videos on practice routines for 8 ball, 9 ball or straight pool. For example, shot making practice routines, shape routines and safety routines. I practice quite often, yet i struggle with structuring my practice time to be efficient. Is there anything you can recommend to structure practice to be the most beneficial or to create my own practice routines based on my deficiencies id like to work on?

HI Brian! That was excellent instruction..thank you. Your #1 tip you said to solve "your problem area first". What should you do if you know that if you solve your problem shot you will indeed pocket the ball but in doing so your leave will render you unable to continue? Is that better to do then say ignoring the problem because you see three balls you can pocket somewhere else on the table but the problem will probably still be there later? Thank you!
The reason we fix problems early in the rack is because you have other balls on the table. They can bail you out after you break up those clusters. Sometimes the opportunity does not present itself. Thanks for watching and thanks for your question.
At about 6:15 in the video, after the "greatest safety you've played all day"😂, you don't show the actual shot on the 7 ball. It seems to be an editing issue where it blurs in transition and we only see where the cueball should have ended up. Was that a draw shot?
I recorded the video months ago, but I’m pretty sure I would’ve come off of two rails to get down table and avoid the traffic. I hope that answers your question.

Hey Bryan. I was at APA LTC (9-ball) yesterday in Fort Wayne Indiana and in the finals. When I got down to the last 4 balls I needed to win the championship, I hooked myself near the second dot of the long rail. The 4 ball was the second diamond on the same long rail but was blocked by 2 balls. The match was close, and I wanted to be sure and make a good hit. I'd thought about a masse, or maybe using some english on the bottom rail but I could actually hear your voice in my head about 3 rail shots. I noticed it was in the path and I shot it confidently. I was able to come off 3 rails and kick the 4 ball 1 rail to the center of the short rail. With your help, my team and I are heading to Vegas in August!! Thank you for making these videos and explaining pool in simple terms. I will continue to tell others about your channel.
I love your videos, you do an outstanding job! Question...not exactly straight forward though. I was playing in a final at a comp...local pub,against a friend, who's the nsw Australian 8 ball champion. I realise every pub has thier own specific rules...ours were printed on the wall ...they stated any foul on the black was a lose of game. So..if I'm on the black ball...but it's my mates shot,he pots his " last" coloured ball,an then goes " in off" ...white ball goes in etc...did I need to pot the black to win if the white balls re-spotted? Or was that a foul on the black an I win etc lol. I've lost many games by going " in -off ,in the same circumstances an it's been ruled that I lost. In this case...they wanted me to pot the black to win,which I did...but I'm a little sceptical.
Sounds like they might have been taking you for a ride. But the rules from one place to the next change in crazy ways. It's unreal how many stupid rules people play by in some places. I'm glad you ended up winning but I can not make a ruling on "their" rules. Thanks for watching Dave.

This is a 9 foot table and it’s usually recommended that you have a space that is 14 x 18‘ for a nine foot table. Thanks for watching.

When you have three balls to run out there are only six possible orders to take them in, not nine. Sorry. I'm a math nut. :-) Love your videos.
I noticed I said that twice but I wasn’t going to take the time to edit it out. The math is 3×2×1. We could count combination shots and make the number to 12 - But my favorite is the over 5000 ways to run seven balls in an eight ball rack. 7x6x5x4x3x2x1 - My videos are unscripted so I’m sure to make a couple of mistakes over 17 minutes. On the final ball in hand example, does the 4 go to the open side pocket. I know if it does, it would leave the 2 in an unknown location.
Thanks for watching. No, I intentionally set those so that neither ball went anywhere on its own without changes to the table. I always think it’s funny when people ask me questions that require me to watch the video, because I record these months in advance sometimes. But I’m happy to answer your question.

Last example I would hit the 4 and hook them so they have to bank at that ball on the short rail or pull off some other kind of tough shot.

Bryan, I don't usually comment, so this one will have to do. I learn a lot from your instructional videos! Your rail shot video helped me make rail shots as well, or better, than "easier" shots! I'm commenting on THIS video because your sense of humor (amusement at these ball-in-hand situations) made learning fun. I always think of option #1 when I have ball in hand, but now I have a few more options to consider. Thank you, very much!

Bryan, let me first say that the information you provide is second to none.
You have so many videos, all of which are excellent to help any player advance. The only hard part is deciding where and what video to watch.
I would like to ask if you have any videos on practice routines for 8 ball, 9 ball or straight pool. For example, shot making practice routines, shape routines and safety routines.
I practice quite often, yet i struggle with structuring my practice time to be efficient. Is there anything you can recommend to structure practice to be the most beneficial or to create my own practice routines based on my deficiencies id like to work on?
I feel that practice should be personalized so what’s good for me, might not be best for you. Watch my video on the Petra method just search, FXBilliards PETRA

HI Brian! That was excellent instruction..thank you. Your #1 tip you said to solve "your problem area first". What should you do if you know that if you solve your problem shot you will indeed pocket the ball but in doing so your leave will render you unable to continue? Is that better to do then say ignoring the problem because you see three balls you can pocket somewhere else on the table but the problem will probably still be there later? Thank you!
The reason we fix problems early in the rack is because you have other balls on the table. They can bail you out after you break up those clusters. Sometimes the opportunity does not present itself. Thanks for watching and thanks for your question.

At about 6:15 in the video, after the "greatest safety you've played all day"😂, you don't show the actual shot on the 7 ball. It seems to be an editing issue where it blurs in transition and we only see where the cueball should have ended up. Was that a draw shot?
I recorded the video months ago, but I’m pretty sure I would’ve come off of two rails to get down table and avoid the traffic. I hope that answers your question.

Hey Bryan. I was at APA LTC (9-ball) yesterday in Fort Wayne Indiana and in the finals. When I got down to the last 4 balls I needed to win the championship, I hooked myself near the second dot of the long rail. The 4 ball was the second diamond on the same long rail but was blocked by 2 balls. The match was close, and I wanted to be sure and make a good hit. I'd thought about a masse, or maybe using some english on the bottom rail but I could actually hear your voice in my head about 3 rail shots. I noticed it was in the path and I shot it confidently. I was able to come off 3 rails and kick the 4 ball 1 rail to the center of the short rail. With your help, my team and I are heading to Vegas in August!! Thank you for making these videos and explaining pool in simple terms. I will continue to tell others about your channel.

Question...not exactly straight forward though.
I was playing in a final at a comp...local pub,against a friend, who's the nsw Australian 8 ball champion.
I realise every pub has thier own specific rules...ours were printed on the wall ...they stated any foul on the black was a lose of game.
So..if I'm on the black ball...but it's my mates shot,he pots his " last" coloured ball,an then goes " in off" ...white ball goes in etc...did I need to pot the black to win if the white balls re-spotted?
Or was that a foul on the black an I win etc lol.
I've lost many games by going " in -off ,in the same circumstances an it's been ruled that I lost.
In this case...they wanted me to pot the black to win,which I did...but I'm a little sceptical.
Sounds like they might have been taking you for a ride. But the rules from one place to the next change in crazy ways. It's unreal how many stupid rules people play by in some places. I'm glad you ended up winning but I can not make a ruling on "their" rules. Thanks for watching Dave.
