    I looked up Victoria Pier after having a conversation with my brother about it. We used to go there a lot as children. I remember going on the ship, Doulas, when it docked there.
    We were hoping that this area has been maintained, even developed more. We were concerned that the volatility that plagues downtown didn't make it yet another casualty. We spoke about the apartments we remember that were built there later on.
    I'm happy to see that this historic, and important part of Kingston is looking great and going on strong. It's the bright light in the otherwise violent and dilapidated downtown Kingston.

    This is how ALL of downtown Kingston should look! From GP all the way out to the industrial piers. Kingston should be the jewel of the Caribbean. Though I'm abroad - we have a house in Allman Town and I don't want to sell. Kingston Town can indeed come back. Once I saw Digicel build their headquarters - I knew I was right. Keep up the progress!

    • @JoyHarrison
      @JoyHarrison 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mindset of most of the innercity people would have to change in order to develop all of downtown Kingston. I clearly remember that some churches, schools and businesses had to leave downtown because of the extreme violence. Business owners were killed if they didn't pay regular protection money. That senseless, destructive mindset would have to change before any attempt to improve all of downtown could possibly be made.

      Fatherc blacklove - China went from poverty to industrialization... Every country who did that got polluted in the process. Don't let white people brainwash you. You don't know how dirty London or Liverpool or NY or Pittsburgh or Los Angeles was???? Fact is right now - China spends more on clean energy to try clean up now than any other country. Go to Hainan island in China.. That is cleaner than Jamaica.

      Good news about any country outside the western world doesn't make money. Ask anyone who hasn't been to yhard and they will say nothing but bad because of the media bullshism. Every country has issues. But if they are not part of the "civilized society" good news doesn't matter. I love yhard with all my heart. Best place I've ever been too.

    • @Amidat
      @Amidat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More than parking it needs a street car trolley like you see in Toronto. Kingston and Portmore need one. A big city needs a train so everyone doesn't have to worry about being in traffic. Imagine one going branching out across into Portmore from Margus Garvey and the Causeway -- and another branch up to New Kingston out to Washington Blvd. toward Ferry and Caymanas (which is also to be redeveloped).

    • @jermaineyoung7256
      @jermaineyoung7256 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely agree with you on all aspects. Sadly our leaders have little vision and still think of the Metropolitan Region as a "small city". Light rail would help a lot in moving people between the three cities easily (Kingston, Portmore and Spanish Town). Therefore, traffic can be minimized if people have transport options.

I was amazed at the transformation after 15 years of avoiding Kingston....👍🏾🙅🏿‍♂️🇯🇲......

    I've never look at Kingston from this perspective, for its kinda hard to realize that after looking at up-Town New Kingston,, this is separate and apart from those buildings up there, as this is the water front, I think the City is getting real Cosmopolitan, and we don't need to compare with other Caribbean Islands either, for everywhere has its own Novelty.

      I understand your reservation about going downtown as the surrounding areas are volatile. You have to drive through some of them to get there. Going there during a busy time of day would be best.

Edward Seaga created UDC in 1968 all these years the UDC have been loosing billions of dollars until KD knight turned it around to make a profit. Go on TH-cam and watch UDC achievements since 2011

      So why can't Jamaicans have a nice place to visit on the waterfront downtown?? Many Jamaicans have a twisted mind that nice things are only for foreigners. I see the same things in the minority areas in NY. They think nice things are only for "rich people". There are many middle class Jamaicans who will enjoy this. In fact - the place looked packed with them in the drone shots.
