Contiguous…you are correct. Hiya! Glad to see you doing ok- keep hydrated and take it at your pace, as you do. So beautiful there! I was so glad to see your video..I feel good and inspired watching…stay well! 🥾🥾🌼🌺🌸
I was planning on doing the PCT this year, but my wife and I ended up with our first born child instead! I ended up getting a Whitney permit instead and I’m leaving to summit tomorrow! It’s so cool seeing your guy’s journey. I’m living vicariously through these videos (while snuggling a sweet little baby).
I’m a young (27 lol) endocrinology resident from Portugal. I’m considering doing the AT when my residency is over. I would love a shout out as a “do it man!” kind of thing. Much love from Portugal!
I knew your pronunciation was spot on… with all the medical terminology that is your vernacular, I inherently trusted your pronunciation over ANY other. 😍🤩
I like the ending with all the food laid out with an explanation. I’d love to see your process for planning the next leg of your trip. Behind the scenes stuff is very interesting. It’s contiguous

I learned something new today, thank you! And thanks for sharing! How wonderful to hear that your interest in hiking remains. I’m from (Sweden) myself so I’m vicariously looking on and am being amazed by the wonderful nature that you have in the states. Our nature is flatter and less dramatic, so I imagine this would have been amazing to see and experience first hand,.. Take care to the two of you! Best!! 🙏
My grandson, Tyler Perkins (trail name Ghostface) 24, is a few days behind you. He was at Kennedy Meadows May 25 and he plans to detour to the Whitney summit. He's from San Fran, but did most of his planning and training while staying with us in San Diego. Love that I stumbled on your wonderful reports while following his adventure.
I agree on enjoying the food layout! The scenery is beautiful, but something always draws me to the “ins and outs” of resupplying, town days and how people organize their packs. Love the videos!
@@robertwissing1713 the pad just gives a little more insulation and a tad more comfort and weighs practically nothing and the mattress is obviously for more comfort. Congrats on making it this far! 🤩. I’m really enjoying your videos. The scenery is stunning and I never expected the desert to last so long. I agree with everyone on the food layout. I really liked that. Keep on keeping on. 🤩🥂😃
Absolutely breathtaking views. Thank you for sharing your journey because this is the only way I will see this beautiful country. Be careful on your breathing!
You probably did this a few days ago and a few days ago I was down in the valley looking up at you while you were on Whitney looking down on me. LOL.. The first time I saw Mt Whitney was from the air, 2000 feet over the top in my hang glider. We had launched from a few miles to the south at Walts Point overlooking the south end of Lone Pine and the Owens Dry Lake.
Sometimes you just have to stop, rest, eat, and drink before you get into trouble. Having the emergency diner for lunch is a great idea. You could also heat some water to put in your water bottle. Put a sock over the bottle to insulate it. I found that a long dry day meant leg cramps that night. Then I was in bad shape the next day. BTW our son was developing asthma when he was young. I installed a central vacuum to reduce dust and my wife put him on a casine(dairy) free diet. He never developed the asthma. You might try reducing dairy to help your lungs. I understand the difficulty breathing. I came home from the Army with one lung only partially working. Another good video. Consider carrying a few instant oatmeal for emergency food. Good Luck, Rick
Welcome to the Sierras guys ! Now your adventure " really " begins...all the hard work is rewarded with absolutely incredible views , water falls , wildlife etc... Hope to run into you randomly when you pass through S.Lake Tahoe... Safe travels to you both.....Katman !!
As a kid living in Burbank I made it up to Guitar lake with my scout troop. I remember how intimidating that mountain looked back then. Would love a chance to finish !
Do it! On my first Scout year we did a week long wilderness camp in the The Sisters Wilderness and climbed South Sister-except I broke my arm on the hike in and had to layoff the climb. I went back 35 years later and did the climb. It felt great to complete a goal, although the climb was actually really easy and not as high as it looked at age 11 😉 (only roughly 10, 500').
It's nice to see this area with snow on it. I hiked in 2008 and Forster had a small chunk of snow near the top but no snow anywhere else. Big Horn Plateau was bare, the trail was bare and Whitney had just a very small, 100' section of snow in it. You guys are dealing with a lot more adversity than I had to. Hike strong! geek
I so enjoy your videos. You are just a bit ahead of my daughter, Gaia, so I get to see where she is headed. Question: you use a video camera, and ear buds, so lots of technology. What are you using to keep everything charged? What are you doing to help your respiratory struggle at the high altitude. Thanks for all the continuous videos.
You've got that classic 'just came down from the high sierra' wasted look. Dazed, dehydrated, hungry, sun/wind burnt. Know it well lol One trick is to take some bullion cubes. I always get slightly headachy, so an aspirin + broth really helps Oh, and true aficionados like it barren. It means you're above treeline, which is where the magic happens There are hundreds of hanging lakes, streams, meadows and peaks 360 degrees around the PCT, some only a few miles away You'll have to come back and check out some the x-country zones
Howdy Julia Sheehan (definitely Irish!), I found pizza to be terrible marching food. Best was pasta with an oily sausage like chorizo. Love the videos and have a great time. Michael from Ireland
The western side of the Sierra is more forested but less dramatic. I think the effects of Whitney elevation is what you were dealing with. I felt terrible until I got back down to 12k ft.
I was also in Bishop up until the 17th. I always have my eyes open for through hikers when in the Owens Valley. I only saw one hiker in Bishop while I was there and it wasn't yoiu two. LOL I would have offered a ride for sure. Been up Onion Valley many times and even flown over it in my hang glider. That's usually where we cross over to the White Mountain range to continue cross country flying. From there to Boundary peak and on to Gabbs or somewhere out there in the Nevada Desert.
I love your videos, I looked around and can't find this info. What is the super fuzzy blue hooded sweater you wear? It looks so comfy and warm. THANKS!
You're suffering from AMS. I'd try to get ahold of some diamox if you can. I'm climbing Whitney this fall and already got mine lined up. I'd also recommend recovery drinks to help replenish your muscles. I use Carnation Breakfast Essentials because they're easy to find and hit that 3:1 carb to protein ratio (when you mix it with powdered milk) which is optimal for muscle recovery. It's very important that you choose a drink and not a bar, because it needs to be in your system within 30 mins of recovery and bars don't metabolize fast enough. If you haven't watched Gear Skeptic's extensive videos on hiker nutrition I highly recommend it. It's been life changing for my hikes.
Love all your post but especially the area you’re in now we lived in Bishop for a while our first summer I remember seeing a bunch of people with packs come into town and was thinking where did all these homeless come from then heard someone say looks like a trail angel just made a drop then it all made since
Hi Julia! Thanks for posting this! I will begin JMT NOBO on June 5th, and this helped me prepare for the snow condition. Did you use crampons, should one know technical snow hiking/climbing skills for the sections covered in your video.

Besides the altitude, you are having limited oxygen intake probably because of some asthmatic like condition. Here (Not a doctor just an ashmatic): (1) Do you have an inhaler? or an OTC, non drowsy anti-histamine like Zirtec (e.g. Centirizine)? (2) Can you get the pack to ride a little higher up to enable a deeper upper respiratory breath? e.g more weight on the hips, hip belt, legs? (3) Vit C, Vit D3,B12, Zinc, Turmeric for inflamation. (4) I make it a point to at least briefly acclimate to the elevation. If I am going up 1K feet per mile. I stop every half mile, take my day pack off and take deep breaths and water.
