    Very interested to see how that diesel oil ends up working. I have heard people have great luck it it since it has zinc or some other molecule in it.
    In the Colorado winters, I use 5w-40 and the summers I go up to 10w-40. I use full synthetic non high mileage and seem to have nice clean oil at the end of every change. My main goal is to keep the oil pressure high enough. When the car gets to 110, 115 degrees, that pressure really drops and I don't like that.

    Always stick to what the manual recommends and use synthetic. Never buy oil from auto parts stores. It's nearly 75% more there. Walmart has it. Nobody should be using non full synthetic oil for german engines at this point. Stupid.

    I have a 94 s500, what oil would you recommend I use? It’s the fall season where I live so the temps can drop to 50-40 degrees. Liqui moly websites suggest 5w-40 but I’m not too sure

      5w40 is good with colder weather. I use 10w40 now in the hotter months.

    I use 10-40 synthetic and it’s worked well but I think I’ll switch to semi synthetic 15-50 soon

    This is a subject that’s always been up in the air. My CLK had 327k on the dash when I sold it and I credit “Mobil-1 00-w40.” It’s all I’ve ever used. Then again, that’s me. I do change my oils twice a yr. right before summer & winter. I’ll admit this, all the Benzes I’ve ever owned were always oil hungry. I could take a round trip to Orlando and back and be down almost a quart. The most bizarre thing ever. I’ve done compression tests and all was & is well.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      Ive heard of using the mobile 00 40 as well. I'm sure it's a great oil and yes most of mine burn oil. This s500 does very well for me

    Hey Pete, I know the S500 hasn't been on the road lately, (sorry to hear about what happened to it by the way) but I wanted to ask if you've stuck with the 15w40 oil? I just bought a 93 400sel and I'm wondering what oil would be best. I live in Tallahassee, so same weather as you. Did you run into any problems switching to full syn? b/c I was thinking about using mobil 1 15w50 full synthetic.

      This is a great question and I’m back on the road now with my w140. New video coming out tomorrow with full update. But ironically I was working on the oil yesterday. Just hit 3k miles on the 15w 40 and the engine seems to like it. Just be careful going up to the heavy heavy weight since it can crush the filter. I’m going to switch to the full synthetic 15w 40 next but I will update on this just to see how filter held up

      So that seems to work very good in cold but for Florida summer it was just too thin. A lot of us got a tick noise from 10 30

    I've been having that same oil light issue on my SL500 M119 R129. Did a oil change and asked that they used a 40 weight oil. Not only they overfilled it and according to the papers, they used a 5w30 euro spec oil on it. Since then, I've been having black smoke on startups. I have no time to go back there (and they just dont carry the oil I want) but I'll change the oil again myself. I just wonder what to get. I was an ex-Miata owner and despite some ppl warning that diesel oil can mess up the cats, many loved the Rotella T6. I'll be waiting for news from you.

      Honestly in my 500sl I used 10w30 and added lucas oil stabilizer to help thicken the oil. After adding the Lucas my pressure went up where I felt comfortable. Using to thin of oil can be bad if you go too long but short term it won't be terrible. Just keep an eye on the pressure. Make sure it stays above 2

    • @RotaryLover
      @RotaryLover 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petescarport It went to 1 at a hot day at idle. When I'm moving it stays between 2 and 3. Should I be concerned? I suspect an oiler tube issues.

      @@RotaryLover mine did the same thing and it concerned me since my s500 with same motor was always at 2.75 at idle. I'm planning to go 10w40 on next change or do the diesel in my 500sl

      Минимально допустимое давление масла в двигателе на холостом ходу или 0.7 или 0.9, согласно предписаниям мерседеса, точно не вспомню. Так что некоторое падение не критично. Главное, чтобы во время движения давление было 3.0.

    I just bought the Mobile 1 Synthetic oil the car calls for 10W30 about to do the oil change keep in mind this my first oil change on the car. Also bought both cabin filters and both air filters, ordered the aluminum cam Oiler tubes, valve cover gaskets, Bosch spark plugs. It’s sad to see most of these w140 owners have no clue how and abuse these beautiful cars. 1999 Mercedes S500 Grand Edition

      10w30 is good for cold weather. The best way to tell if the oil is going to work on your car is to keep an eye on oil pressure. If it goes below 2 you may need to add some oil thicker or go to different weight. I ran mobile 1 synthetic in Florida spring and fall with no issues. Average temps during the time were 70.

    • @petescarport
      @petescarport  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh also if you need any help on oil change let me know. The drop in filter is a little tricky to get to and you need to make sure to tighten it back down well it it will leak. Last thing is don't forget to swap out the rubber rings on filter housing.

      Ok I see thanks for advise, you think it will be ok to add 1 Quart of Rislone Engine Treatment I heard great things about it, it helps with pressure and lubing gaskets, reduces noisy lifters and friction.
