The Custom of Lion Worshiping - Saigon Laca

As a matter of routine, on the 30th of December each year, dozens of lion dance troupe gather around Thien Hau temple in Cholon to begin the “Khai quang điểm nhãn” ritual.
The true meaning of “khai quang điểm nhãn” is to give the eye to the Lion, with a teardrop shape dotted on the lion’s forehead or the tongue to make it more lively, and officially ready for the performance.
Before the rite takes place, the lions will deliver spectacular performances at the entrance of the temple as an introduction of the ceremony and a tribute to the attendees.
