My question is: If Prince can follow, compete with, or flat beat the so called "GREATS" in Blues and Rock, but they can't follow him back through R&B, to Funk, thru Jazz, to Fusion; how are they greater than him? Because most of the so called Greats are one dimensional....
I did and was his biggest cheerleader in my small town. I was laughed at but I would not let them change my mind. A few of the kids that used to laugh at me and my love of “Princess” (it was the early 80s and kids were like that then.) have seen the awesome job he did at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and finally admitted to me that Prince is an awesome guitarist. I was so glad he did that show because it showed so many that had dismissed him what a true talent he was.
When I saw the video of Prince playing with Tom Petty while my guitar gently weeps I was totally gobsmacked on how good he was For me He is guitarist of all time Sadly gone far to Early !!
Well deserved document on the greatest artist of all times, for me he was musical excellence and perfection. There will never be another artist as complete as him. Miss him
I love the solo on “Dolphin”. It’s one of the most heartfelt solos I’ve ever heard, which brings me to my bigger point: I think that part of the reason why Prince is underrated is because he often plays tasteful and reserved guitar solos which show that he had an exquisite ear for the tiniest of details and understanding of nuance in the finest possible sense, which most of the people making these lists don’t understand or appreciate. If that’s what made sense for the song, that what Prince would do, which is often far more effective at powerfully and honestly bringing across the emotion of the song. Prince was the absolute master at that.
Yes I put Prince number 1 guitarist in the world that’s it, truly magnificent, jaw dropping music.I have always loved his music, his genius, they way he moves , the ways he dressed, the multidimensional ways he conducted his everything, We have lost such a great one when he passed.
I think Prince was underrated for two reason: 1) He didn't fit into the MTV white stereotype of guitar god (of which Hendrix was the only real outsider). 2) His sheer musicality, sexuality, gender subversiveness and uniqueness meant he could never fix neatly into Hendrix/Clapton model. Yes he was inspired by Santana but he always created (as you've suggested Mr Ant) his own sound and always played more than a pentatonic scales based solo or a fret wanking (excuse the language) hammer on fest. Funking brilliant was he. x Tony
I think he was just so GREAT at so many things musically, it just over shadowed his guitar playing so he never got the respect he deserved for guitar specifically. As a guitar player myself liking a great many, Prince is one of my FAVS !
I always appreciated how tasteful a guitar player he was, it was always in service of the song. I was never bored with a too long solo, it was just right.
I think the reason simply is because his flamboyant style, most people couldn´t see past that and simply couldn´t comprehend the talent behind it. But, there is a reason why pretty much every music critic out there acknowledges him as the musical genius he was.
A very dense, serious and, last but not least, a true review. I did not know Prince as an outstanding guitarist until last month ! Then i saw a YT Video called „Ssssh“ ... extraordinary playing
Yeah everyone in the music behind the scenes knelt at his feet. It's because of his pop hits people are blinded. However he went even beyond guitar playing with an neverending amount of instruments he could play very well. I would recommend checking out the 2018 documentary. Some people who worked alongside him had to quit because he was almost rehearsing & practicing music 24 hours a day. The other thing I would recommend is checking out his 1988 small club solo cover of (Just my Imagination) It's a slow build but flawless & effortless cover. Enjoy 👍
@@lyndellwilliams5890Yes and you could tell by his concerts just how much he had worked out his bands. What I enjoyed most about him live was that you NEVER heard him do anything just like the record. It was always more, faster,or slower, but mainly it was different. His show was the same way. I saw the Jam Of The Year show 3 times. Each concert was totally different from the other one. And his band had to have the training to do that. And sometimes he would do a secret club concert after his regular show so a band member would have to do 2 or 3 hours and then do it all again the same night. I hope he paid well.
I’ve said for years, way before he passed, had Prince released a straight forward blues rock album he would have doubled his fan base or more. He was the best. Saw him live only once. So, so good. 💜
I don’t think so. Not that your heart isn’t in the right place. I don’t think these Blues/Rock fans would just start liking him. All my Rock friends dismissed him because he was 1. Weird looking 2. A black R&B artist He had produced plenty of good Rock guitar work and none of them gave him any love.
The fact that you include "I'm Yours" shows how legit you really are. You hit so many of the right notes, as it were, when describing his guitar highlights, that it would be a crime not to subscribe.
P is indeed at the top of the game as far as playing the guitar is concerned, anyone who says otherwise is up past their bedtime! I too was at one of those Indigo shows and standing 6 feet from the man as he made love to the strings was a spiritual experience. He had a supernatural ability to play whatever was inside of him without constraint which few can do, and I've seen many of the so called greats in my time. Virtuosic guitar displays have all but disappeared from pop music these days, only to be relegated to the sterile annals of instagram and youtube but P was putting his guitar fire into his work right to the end, and keeping it sexy, but music academics are always suspicious of showmanship. Anyway I'm very grateful to have had the experience of seeing P do his thing from such close quarters which enriched me invaluably as both a musician and music fan myself. Peace.
I believe the real reason Prince is the greatest guitarist of all time is that he was a multi-instrumentalist. This meant he had a much broader scope in terms of what was required to make a piece special or different, producing a wider and deeper musicality. In addition he came along at a certain time when many genres were well established, giving him a lot of influence to draw from.
We were at that hall of fame show. What they don't tell you is he had already burned the stage down three hours before that and they did multiple takes. That's sorta how I discovered how incredible Prince was. I was honestly only at the show to see Traffic and Bob Seger. Prince was an after thought and turned me into a believer that night.
haha your spot on there m8 as ive done the same thing from after that first time i ever saw him many years ago which was my first ever concert i know i was one of those jaw dropping first time seeing this man live people and im so lucky that it was prince it just happend to be my first ever concert as it cld have been anybody i just asked my family members who were going through a attending as many different artists/bands ect as they can time in there lifes to take me to my first concert experience to which they said ok and the next tickets they buy but dont know yet who it migjt be they will get an extra ticket one for me and a few months later i was informed thed got me my first concert ticket and who it was Prince which id only ever heard and seen pictures of this musician i didnt know of his songs except PURPLE RAIN and as im sure your understand i went and my life changed from after that night had ended but also a funny thing was a few months later my family got me a ticket to see who id been mad about for years who was my favourite and was who everybody wanted to see live at the time to which i went to this concert 3 months after seeing PRINCE and it was good and i loved it and i knew the songs but this concert of my hero who was M.J by the way had nothing on the experience i had when seeing prince a few months earlier which was life changing. And just for the record this all happened to me in the year of 1988 and i was 12YRS OLD so these 2 concerts were BAD & LOVESEXY not bad for a childs first 2 concerts O)+>
One of the reasons I think he gets overlooked by the general public is that a lot of his best guitar work isn’t really featured on the radio. WDC and Purple Rain, for example have shortened versions for the radio and the solos don’t appear. Other songs with great guitar work weren’t big singles. Two of his most notable solos that are on the radio are Kiss and LRC, and they weren’t him. Let’s Go Crazy is probably really the only song that gets heavy airplay that does feature him doing a guitar solo. These types of things are all about familiarity and I think a lot of people aren’t that familiar with his best guitar work. I have noticed that a lot of the other greats do know that he’s one of them. I’ve heard/read quotes from Gilmour, Santana, and even EVH talking about how great he was, so I am really grateful about that.
he was a recluse and the name change, being odd doesn't do much for your fans and what about playing shows in pitch black.like rodger waters building a wall till there was one brick left to end the show with goodbye. maybe sanity is over rated but eating 75 percodans is crazy. eeewwwup.
He received probably the ultimate tribute from jazz legend Miles Davis. Miles didn't often praise other artistes, but he said "Prince ain't jivin'.He's serious...he's like me." Nuff said.
Prince was a phenom. He was a MASTER musician, vocalist, songwriter, producer...the list goes on. If all he did was play guitar, he would have been revered as a guitar god (like Clapton, Page, Hendrix, etc.) as he was certainly on that level. But he still gets MUCH recognition for his unmatched creativity and innovation in music...now and forever.
Remember when you were in school taking a test? There would always be this kid who finished like 30 to 40 minutes ahead of everyone. His pen would go down and he’d walk his blue booklet to the front and your heart would start pounding cuz you knew you didn’t want to be the last to finish. That’s Prince on the guitar. And his classmates were still stuck in only one section of the test as he was finishing. They were busy acing that one section. He had aced all sections and was done. Now, if you add to that his brilliantly creative song writing and his otherworldly singing range, coupled with his theatrics, stage presence, and dancing … now you’ve got a unicorn, something mythical that’s never actually been seen. No wonder they never properly recognized him as a guitarist. They didn’t know what they were looking at.
Prince never needed to compare his genius because he's in an untouchable Guitar category all alone. The list of the best guitarist can never parallel what he created because they're rated where they belong. How can anyone compare pigeons and roosters to an eagle?
Prince is a phenomenal guitar player! He could out play any1. It's ridiculous that people overlooked him. No 1 is more talented musically than PRINCE!💜💜
@@sodiumlights eye just think he's more talented than a lot of the people they have listed b4 him. No 1 can come close 2 being as talented and play as many instruments as well as Prince. It's just my opinion.
I think it was just because he could do so much... and was such a great showman (and so beautiful)... that it overshadowed his playing. He wasn’t only a guitar player. Also he was Black of course so the white rock critics were throwing shade just like they did at Hendrix when he was alive.
It has been a perfect playing for me having a lovely and awesome Fan like you, thanks for your love, I have you mostly to be thankful for 🎼🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🌹🌹🌹
Very good point, Raya. Making a list requires quite a binary approach of what a guitarist is or should be. Prince was in a category of his own and, in a way, he himself did everything he could to do things differently so he could not be compared to other musicians. I think as a Gemini paradoxal person he was proud of not sharing these lists with others, and at the same time his ego would have loved it :) Anyway, he was Prince, the one and only, and that's why we loved him.
After Prince died I went to a cinema to watch Purple Rain, and from the first song I was totally amazed that I didn't know how great a guitarist he was. He was over the roof. However I hardly ever remember a list where Prince was considered one of the top guitarists.
Most talented musician, Prince was like a chameleon, muli multi versatile he can play everything. From Jazz to heavy metal.Have seen him many times in Amsterdam not that comercial pop trash but he was playing jazz rock and funk in small clubs. Prince best music is never been recorded on vinyl or cd. RIP
@@julianisaac6004 I disagree. Jimi was the GOAT for his era. But there's nothing that Jimi could do that Prince couldn't. The opposite is not true. Prince was just much more inventive and well-rounded as a musician and that allowed him to do things with guitar that others couldn't. (He could shred the bass, too).
You just said it best in your opening statement while he was ranked so low at the George Harrison Hall of Fame induction he tore it up and may people realize why he was that good
Thanks for another excellent video Ant. I think prince was overlooked as a guitarist by many as he was so good at everything he wasn’t marketed as a guitar player like well known guitarist are and are kind of stuck with being known as a guitarist. He had everything, vocals as well obviously. It was obviously prince’s last 10 years or so that I think he showed on tv shows etc what an amazing guitarist he was. Thanks Ant 💜
All of those lists are nonsense. Quite literally everyone ranked above him on those lists had a tremendous praise and respect for prince as they all paid tribute when Prince passed ( which honestly matters most then whatever Rolling Stone journalist has to say about guitar playing) the music is out there and it is clear that Prince is one of the guitar GOATS in either rythmn or lead Also: Get it up is one of his best solos
Nobody slept on Prince as a guitarist. If they did then they were set straight when he did that 10 minute solo on that award show. All the best guitarists where present. Everybody saw the truth that day. What people sleep on is that Prince is a severe keyboard player. Frankly he is better at keys than guitar. Superior to most in the business. .#PrinceRogersNelson
Good vid. I also had the privilege of being at the Indigo2 for the August 28th 2007, knowing that I witnessed one of the great aftershows with just drums, bass & guitar. I love the fact you picked THAT solo from "I like it there" - one of my 'goto' solos when I want my eyes to spin around uncontrollably in awe - still gives me goosebumps. The following track "Erotic City" is a guitar-showstopper too. Good work & excellent choice!!
Ant's .....you've taken my breath away ! This is THE BEST video I've ever seen displaying Princes' unreachable talent on the guitar. He WAS the best that's ever been...without question...compared to None ! Thanks again for this extraordinary compilation.💝
Mr. Ant Ditto you said it all. Only Prince Purple Family knows he was the greatest guitarist ever. He was so gifted with natural talent. Thank you for this video. Well done. 💜🎸🎸💜
Yes Mr. ANT, He was the greatest guitar player, funny enough I didn't know prince played guitar until his passing, he wasn't in my circle, but when I saw live video of him playing, I said great snakes alive he was doing this at 19 years old, you can hear it on his records and footage. And I also saw him a couple of times playing guitar and keys with his right hand, and I showed my son how prince was showing his drummer the beat with his foot drum while playing guitar rehearsal for lovesexy, several times prince got the momentum going on guitar and laid it down, as the guitar kept going. Really great talent. I've never seen anyone do that before.
Loved the video. And the fact that there's so many questioning "is he underrated?" means that the tide is turning. As a fan of almost 30 years, it's something that has riled me for most of that time. However, clearly there is now a wakening happening and his talent is being recognised. One comment in the list here struck me: he could do blues, RnB and rock guitar work and be in the mix for best ever... but almost all the other guys on the list can't boast the same. They've got their lanes and they stick to them. Out of the guitarists today, only John Mayer has abilities that allow him to move across genres. And he's a fantastic emotional guitar player where speed isn't the aim, melody and heart are. Much in the vein of the great Prince despite their sounds being different. When you step back and realise this conversation is merely one aspect of Prince's incredible musical toolbox - it is quite staggering. Then add in the songwriting, production, showmanship, etc... No competition ever in the history of music. The guy was just talent personified. At the end of the day, it comes down to favourites. Who is yours? Who is mine? All I can do to qualify it is this... If i had only one more hour to live and hear any guitarist, I'd pick Prince.
Thank you so much for this video! Prince was something else. Those of us that were lucky enough to see him live knew. The others just missed out. Their loss. His true fans knew how great he was.
We love Prince. Problem is that he wa most accomplished musician of all. All those guitarists focused only on one instrument but he did all of them and that’s people missed his greatness If not other no one could play so many instruments so good as one and the only!
My first only music concert was Prince's Musicology tour. That is when I learned there was Prince recorded and there was Prince live and that was an entirely different dimension. He played a guitar rift that attacked my loins and well they responded.
Prince was just too complex for people to see his talent. I've watched him up close and personal, yes I watched "HIM" but, I watched the almost preternatural way his fingers moved. It was mesmerizing. And no, you didn't have to see him live all you had to do is listen. I'm very biased, but they never gave him all of the accolades he truly deserved.
MiaBoca I totally agree. People like artists to play it safe for them to understand. Simple pop melodies. Prince’s complexity showcased his virtuosity on any instrument.
I do not comprehend some post here. Prince is considered one of the most talented artists ever for a pretty long time already. I only know two more artists that could play many instruments on a high level: Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder. Prince's name was even The Artist for a while. In the 1980ies he was the mega super star together with Madonna, MJ and Bruce Springsteen. The music world knows Prince for quite a long time!
oh and @mrant you got to see the number 1 thing id always wanted to experience for years that of the many times i got to see PRINCE live i never got to witness or say attend one of his After show gigs which if your A proper prince fan your know is known for seeing prince bassiclly raw and unplanned sets of just going with whatever he feels like at that very moment and also most of the time playing for hours or till the sun comes up si good on you for managing to see him at one if his after show gigs and even though it will never be possible for myself to ever now experience one of his after show in a small club jamming sessions please tell me your story on how you got to attend one of these personal PRINCE gigs im just interested to know if it was as hard as they say to get a pass into one of these after show gigs and really just knowing if i wld ever had gor ti achieve this cheers mr Ant ...
Hi and thanks for your comment really appreciated. It actually wasn't that difficult to get tickets for the aftershow I went to as it was part of the 21 nights in London there were 21 aftershow party's too. When you booked your tickets for whatever night you went to you had the option then of also buying a ticket for the aftershow. You could also buy one on the night but the Q was horrendous and you wouldn't be sure of getting a ticket. The only downside to the after shows was that it wasn't guaranteed that prince would appear or perform and there a few nights when this was the case, you had to take your chance and hope for the best and I got lucky 😊
@@MrAntsworldofPrince cool man well im really happy for you that you choose the right night and had that more personal experience i bet it was life changing....
In my opinion, Prince on LP/CD never stood out in his guitar play like his live performance where he really displayed his guitar skills. I love all his music and went to several concerts. RIP Prince.
Not only was Prince a great guitar player he was the best among the best that's why a lot of musicians wanted to work with this genius. They knew as Prince cause not only is he a beast on the guitar but he wrote some iconic and beautiful songs as well. Like The Love we Made, The Beautiful One's, Gold, Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, Something In The Water Does Not Compute. And many many memorable songs he wrote over the years including great musicians in his band that worked beside him from bass players to Drummers and keyboard players to other guitar players. Everything he did was perfection no matter what he did his legacy will live on and on forever in everybody's heart.
Remember, we're living in a "european" paradigm. These folks never knew and don't know how to play fair. Prince & Jimi Hendrix were the greatest of all time in the 20th century. No one, (na-da!) Comes close. They were both guitar G.O.D.S! Period! No Questions!
I think because he plays so many instruments so amazingly well that he's not thought about when being compared to those that only play guitar. He is one of the few great stand alone instrumentalists !!!
Prince was definitely phenomenal but, you still can never discredit those before him because they paved the way for all artists....if you critically think about the history of music and how it had evolved you can never compare artists because they all have had different styles and their styles is what influences the next generation and so on and so forth
Prince was a true anomaly. His kinetic abilities were through the roof. His hand to eye co ordination and dexterity allowed him to be a phenomenal instrumentalist, basketball player and dancer and his brain, he was a musical savant who could learn music at the speed of light, and this also allowed his creativity to be an endless well of ideas, he was also a great word smith able to create lyrics in an instant. Prince was far too comprehensive when it comes to music and performing that even his virtuosic playing ability is drowned out in the dizzyingly dense and colourful tsunami that was his creative expression that was his very essence. He was not a musician, he was a vast encompassing creative force of nature, this is why he was overlooked in specific aspects of his abilities. He was a true monolith who simply cannot be compared to any other musician. There never has been nor will there ever be again a creative force of nature anywhere near Prince's realm. We could argue Frank Zappa is is another equal/near equal creative anomaly to Prince, but even he seems rigid and less dimensional next to Prince which says a heck of a lot.
I think he's underrated because he makes it look easy. Have a listen to Prince playing empty room live at montreux in 2009 he kills it. It has my favourite guitar playing by Prince.
prince could play over 36 instrruments. He played all the actual instruments on his studio albums himself. Even his very first song that was played to warner bros to get him signed up was played entirely on his own. No musician alive or dead could do what he did. I had the pleasure and honour to see him 3 times and as stated in this video by the narrator he blew me away with is sheer talent. Screw any so called "greatest guitarists of all time" there is only one true No 1 and that is the man himself.
SO SO TRUE!!!! Late in life l became a fan of Prince because of his ripping the guitar like no others and some of the big names out there can't do what Prince only can do.
I totally agree he was the best guitarist. My 2 favorite guitar perfomances were on Empty Room(live) and Creep(live) if you havent seen them, look them up,you wont be dissapointed.
I agree with you 100% that Prince was the "GOAT" with his amazing guitar skills, bar none. RIP me good brother. You are the envy of the whole planet and should not be denied.
Great vid - thanks. I am not a guitarist but Prince Small Club - Just my Imagination - is just the best guitar solo ever as far as I am concerned and, as you say, there are so many wonderful others that he has done. Goodness knows why he has been overlooked
for me Just My Imagination is beyond everything i ever heard before no matter how many times i listen too , i still get emotional Oh My God what a gift He gave us
Youre 100 pct correct! i saw Prince in a couple concerts later in his career and he would do 15+ min guitar solos. Incredible fast fingers, he played between his legs, behind his head. He could play a guitar faster behind his head than most can play it normally.
GREAT Vid! LOVE IT! Miss the solo from "strolling" from the Vegas concert. Prince was a great jazz guitarist as well! :-) ( Im not complaining) :-) Purple love!
Not to mention Prince was an incredible "guitar showman". He showed passion, emotion along with body language and facial expression you can just see he loved playing his guitar. Something you can't get just listening to him you have to see it.
I didn’t see your video pop up😄Great video and I entirely agree with U👍 Prince is the Guitar Virtuoso💜💜💜 🎸👌and in terms of Rolling Stones top guitarists, he always been underrated🙁? Luckily Prince didn’t appear to give a hoot about this or the rock critics🤗which is another thing I luv about him. It’s been said that it’s v difficult to do vocals as Prince does and play guitar as he does at the same time, plus dance, band lead etc. And because of this he didn’t just concentrate on guitar alone, making him an incredibly hard act to follow for other musicians. Jealousy springs to mind, as always with him.
He’s no longer truly considered underrated. Many are more underrated than him. His guitar solos are the most watched in total on the entire internet. Especially the Super Bowl and Hall of Fame performances. And even pitiful Rolling Stone adjusted their list and he’s now listed in the 30s out of 100. And other magazines have him much higher. Prince is simply underrated at everything cause he’s the one artist who can prove nothing with him is hyperbolic. He was THAT good. And why shouldn’t he be? It’s all he did all the time always. Nobody in music history as a musician worked harder or played more. He was obsessed. And put his bands through the wringer.
I saw Prince when he was 42 yrs old play guitar, piano, drums, bass, sing, dance, and run evetwhetr on the stage for four hours
Simply put. A list dosen't matter in this situation. Prince was in a class all by himself.
You hit the nail on the head

I don’t think so. Not that your heart isn’t in the right place. I don’t think these Blues/Rock fans would just start liking him.
All my Rock friends dismissed him because he was
1. Weird looking
2. A black R&B artist
He had produced plenty of good Rock guitar work and none of them gave him any love.
The fact that you include "I'm Yours" shows how legit you really are. You hit so many of the right notes, as it were, when describing his guitar highlights, that it would be a crime not to subscribe.
Thank you so much 😊
Facts
Peace.
Thanks for the great comment had me nodding in agreement constantly. Those indigo nights were something else!!
Prince was a one off.
Genius.
Anybody who plays guitar knows how great he was
Oralè
The extended version of "Computer Blue" is beastly!
My favorite
"Computer Blue Hallway Speech version" specifically is my favorite version.
I often tell people that one of the most amazing things at his shows was to be able to turn around and see all the amazed faces with jaws dropped 🤯
haha your spot on there m8 as ive done the same thing from after that first time i ever saw him many years ago which was my first ever concert i know i was one of those jaw dropping first time seeing this man live people and im so lucky that it was prince it just happend to be my first ever concert as it cld have been anybody i just asked my family members who were going through a attending as many different artists/bands ect as they can time in there lifes to take me to my first concert experience to which they said ok and the next tickets they buy but dont know yet who it migjt be they will get an extra ticket one for me and a few months later i was informed thed got me my first concert ticket and who it was Prince which id only ever heard and seen pictures of this musician i didnt know of his songs except PURPLE RAIN and as im sure your understand i went and my life changed from after that night had ended but also a funny thing was a few months later my family got me a ticket to see who id been mad about for years who was my favourite and was who everybody wanted to see live at the time to which i went to this concert 3 months after seeing PRINCE and it was good and i loved it and i knew the songs but this concert of my hero who was M.J by the way had nothing on the experience i had when seeing prince a few months earlier which was life changing. And just for the record this all happened to me in the year of 1988 and i was 12YRS OLD so these 2 concerts were BAD & LOVESEXY not bad for a childs first 2 concerts O)+>
All of this! Prince was the greatest to ever do it!
Tyrone dropped the damn MIC..NOTHING ELSE to see here..
PRINCE was indeed a great guitarist, but a GUITAR GOD!.NO F******* WAY! All due respect of course. 💜
@@andrewilson7538 ok,so WHO is YOUR alleged 'guitar god'???Oh and consider he's self taught in guitar AND bass..Let's all have a good laugh..
Here, Here
oops..did someone get really quiet???hahahahaha
when I play the soundtrack of my life, it's littered with the music of Prince
Well the river runs out of the mother land.....

So true.
@Raya Salter You Nailed It.
Glad somebody finally called it. Thank you for making this.
“Nothing Compares 2 U”

Totally agree with you..princes live guitar performances is totally inspired, and brilliant artistry..no one else can compare
He is a top 5 of my personal best guitarist ever
After Prince died I went to a cinema to watch Purple Rain, and from the first song I was totally amazed that I didn't know how great a guitarist he was. He was over the roof. However I hardly ever remember a list where Prince was considered one of the top guitarists.
Most talented musician, Prince was like a chameleon, muli multi versatile he can play everything. From Jazz to heavy metal.Have seen him many times in Amsterdam not that comercial pop trash but he was playing jazz rock and funk in small clubs. Prince best music is never been recorded on vinyl or cd.
RIP
At Paradiso or the Melkweg,or both locations?
Prince is The Mozart of our time
On this Valentine's Day, Thank you for this gift!!! I agree 💯, Prince was the Greatest guitarist in the world!🌎💜❤
He's in my top 5 for sure
Best ever. No doubt. He could play anything. And he wasn't just a technician. He could make the guitar sing like no other.
...and yet still not better than Jimi...I love Prince...but Jimi was an alien
@@julianisaac6004 I disagree. Jimi was the GOAT for his era. But there's nothing that Jimi could do that Prince couldn't. The opposite is not true. Prince was just much more inventive and well-rounded as a musician and that allowed him to do things with guitar that others couldn't. (He could shred the bass, too).
@@eriksvideos6022 Stop smoking the stuff. Prince was a really good guitarist...that is all. Not even in the top 100.
I loved this evaluation of prince 5 ⭐✨⭐⭐⭐ star rating
You just said it best in your opening statement while he was ranked so low at the George Harrison Hall of Fame induction he tore it up and may people realize why he was that good
Thanks for another excellent video Ant. I think prince was overlooked as a guitarist by many as he was so good at everything he wasn’t marketed as a guitar player like well known guitarist are and are kind of stuck with being known as a guitarist. He had everything, vocals as well obviously. It was obviously prince’s last 10 years or so that I think he showed on tv shows etc what an amazing guitarist he was. Thanks Ant 💜
Thanks Danny much appreciated. Some great points there too 😉💜
All of those lists are nonsense. Quite literally everyone ranked above him on those lists had a tremendous praise and respect for prince as they all paid tribute when Prince passed ( which honestly matters most then whatever Rolling Stone journalist has to say about guitar playing) the music is out there and it is clear that Prince is one of the guitar GOATS in either rythmn or lead
Also: Get it up is one of his best solos
The critics/ writers are intimated by Prince. Prince always says that they don't tell the truth.
Could not have said it better myself
Get it up has a killer solo by His Royal Badness!
Imho Creep is his Best solo :-)
@@stasshustov3443 that one was soo iconic
Nobody slept on Prince as a guitarist. If they did then they were set straight when he did that 10 minute solo on that award show. All the best guitarists where present. Everybody saw the truth that day. What people sleep on is that Prince is a severe keyboard player. Frankly he is better at keys than guitar. Superior to most in the business. .#PrinceRogersNelson
Nobody's better on the guitar than Prince. Miss your live performances, musical genius.
Appreciate this video peeps, you are discovering who really is the God of music in every way.peace Mr Nelson x
Yall better go check out the jazz albums prince did as well. We will never see another musician like prince ever again on this place we call earth

@@MrAntsworldofPrince no worries man i ment what i said and i will looking forward to seeing more of vids for sure O)+>
As a fan of Prince and avid metal, thrash and rock fan. I rated Prince.
What is your rating?
Google Shhh Prince Detroit 2004...solo is 🔥🔥🔥
THANK YOU SIR..😢😢😢TY⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The "Lady Cab Driver" solo is still my favorite one he ever played.
I absolutely love the guitar solo in " Lady Cab Driver " !!!
Well done. 💜🎸🎸💜
Sorry, he's great for sure but Jimi is the greatest
Should be #1 on every list 💜
Great video! You had me a "Fascination!" So proud of us fans. One day the others will know.
We love Prince. Problem is that he wa most accomplished musician of all. All those guitarists focused only on one instrument but he did all of them and that’s people missed his greatness
If not other no one could play so many instruments so good as one and the only!
Exactly

Hands down the most underrated! He was overlooked because Prince was not in a famous rock band.
Thank you for posting this... I really enjoyed the comments and the pictures...
Saw him 4 times and will never move off this statement. Greatest guitarist ever!! Period ✔️🎯
"lovesexy live"(1988), "The undertaker"(1995) and "The sacrifice of victor live"(1995), vhs and laserdisc, were only released in Europe and Japan!!!😢
Prince also was known to play guitar remarkably with gloves on! Who does that? Prince did. Who else? (Sounds of crickets)
You have to be damn good to play guitar with gloves on ... Jimi hendrix had huge hands and could still play
And a painted fretboard, which I have never seen.
Great video
I love his guitar work! I’ve never looked at too many guitarists but he’s been getting me into that for sure
I've been saying this my whole life. Maybe because he hardly ever talked about it. He let the music speak for itself
A true genius.
Spot on!!
Truth be honestly told & some of the other greats have said themselves...Prince is in thr Top 5 of all time 🎸 Guitarist of all time.
Absolutely the greatest .. I have been playing 30 years and he still amazes me
... the best:!!
If you got too see him play Just My Imagine live after show you are one lucky person. It's the best performance I have ever heard 👍
Extraordinarily Supremely the Best. Full stop. Pure Chills all over. I agree. The best guitarist. A God of music.
I think he's underrated because he makes it look easy. Have a listen to Prince playing empty room live at montreux in 2009 he kills it. It has my favourite guitar playing by Prince.
Nailed it! He makes it look SO easy, SO effortless, SO natural, that it puts other thinkers and technicians to shame!
prince could play over 36 instrruments.
Well Jimi Hendrix set the bar with no one else achieving what he had did. Prince is the only one that came close.
Hell yeah, that whole gig was the best ever. But the guitar playing and his modulations next to Boni - ear sex.
for me Just My Imagination is beyond everything i ever heard before
no matter how many times i listen too , i still get emotional
Oh My God what a gift He gave us
He has never been overlooked or under-rated by anyone that matters!
I saw Prince 3 times. He made me start loving and appreciating the guitar.
Youre 100 pct correct! i saw Prince in a couple concerts later in his career and he would do 15+ min guitar solos. Incredible fast fingers, he played between his legs, behind his head. He could play a guitar faster behind his head than most can play it normally.
Absolutely
GREAT Vid! LOVE IT! Miss the solo from "strolling" from the Vegas concert. Prince was a great jazz guitarist as well! :-) ( Im not complaining) :-)

Not to mention Prince was an incredible "guitar showman". He showed passion, emotion along with body language and facial expression you can just see he loved playing his guitar. Something you can't get just listening to him you have to see it.
Spot on absolutely agree with that 😊
I didn’t see your video pop up😄Great video and I entirely agree with U👍
Prince is the Guitar Virtuoso💜💜💜 🎸👌and in terms of Rolling Stones top guitarists, he always been underrated🙁?
THANK YOU FOR MAKING A VIDEO OF A POINT I’VE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS!!!
