I was going to make the same comment about the announcers and Olsen's 3's. It was also really annoying to hear them mispronouncing names and not knowing anything at all about the Iowa team. Oh...and about those 3's...supposedly, Stuelke has been working on those shots in practice. I'd like to see her attempt them in the game!
I'm pretty sure they are just students at one of the schools, in which case they are doing pretty well. I would guess they go to Penn, so they may not be super knowledgable about Olsen. We are all watching this without having paid for Big 10 + soooo... Coverage is coverage.
The announcer's background is most likely radio - especially if they are student broadcasting announcers. They do a serviceable job for their level. Give the ecosystem around the game time to improve...2 or 3 years ago, this game would never have been broadcasted or streamed and most of the people who view it today never would have paid any attention to it, as Penn State and Iowa have never historically produced top women's basketball teams.
@waldolydecker8118 So, let me paraphrase for you: “Don’t expect them to do their job properly.” Unless they pulled them from the concession booth because the regular announcers called in sick at the last minute, I would expect them to come prepared to do their job correctly. 30 minutes watching a TH-cam of the last game Iowa played could have given them the correct pronunciations for this Iowa team. A quick review of box scores could have prevented the insanity regarding Olsen’s preferred shots.
It was actually a guy and a girl. He said it at 59:18 The girl was better as the game went on, once she stopped McCab. 🤦♂️ The guy was pretty bad at Iowa names.
she loves charity stripies whatever that is, bread and butter, paint and telling us how much time is left on the clock 9 times a quarter. very annoying.
McCabe actually had 6 3s. A charging call away from the ball was questionable while McCabe dropped another 3 As McCabe gets back in her zone, you can't stop her. Here's one thing though inside the paint for Iowa is like the black hole, once the ball comes inside it's not coming back out, and they miss half of them. When The defense collapses on them they need to kick the ball back out to an open guard preferably McCabe. If the coaches don't fix this, Iowa will get torched against teams that have a better inside game, and there is several out there. Kick the ball back out, the freshmen are the worst, plus O Grady as well. I have never seen her kick the ball back out
For those blasting the announcers - they aren't "national" pros, as this wasn't a nationally broadcasted game. Probably local University (Iowa or Penn State) announcers who routinely call non-national games. Could even be student broadcasting personnel. It's like listening to the announcers of a AAA Baseball game and bitching that they don't sound as smooth as Vin Scully or Red Barber.
Are they getting paid? I’ve certainly heard 3 years of good collegiate women’s basketball announcing, despite being at the college level. The main play-by-play announcer here certainly deserves this criticism. Seems like a basic skill to get names right. She got more wrong than right for Iowa. Ridiculous. Also, regarding the several times she mentioned Olsen’s bread & butter is usually threes. Geez. If they’re not getting paid, then it’s understandable. If they are, they need to up THEIR game.
Announcers: The problem is Big Ten-Plus, despite being a paid channel, is basically a training ground for amateur camera people and announcers. Should be renamed Big Ten-Minus. Oh, well, TH-cam does have a mute button.
only proves you haven't heard much over the 50 years of NCAA women's basketball. Very easy for them to seem the "worst" if you only started listening two or three years ago because of the promotion campaign surrounding Caitlin Clark.....the game was being played and announced 40 years before Clark ever got to high school.
Yup so annoying. That term should be used maybe once per game. A player dribbled through the top of the key and the announcer said "She's at the charity stripe" like she was parked to shoot free throws.
@@artistamisto they were even using the term when a player would drive or shoot from the top of the key or the elbow, they'd still say "from the charity stripe". It's like they found a new phrase that they thought gave people the impression that they knew what they were doing. haha
okay, the announcers aren't the greatest, it sounds more like a radio broadcast, but give them a break - I, or you, probably wouldn't be any better...? Just enjoy the game, and there is a volume / mute option.
I like watching Iowa but this team is a shell of a team of what they were last year. There is not one player that is going to be drafted in the wnba on Iowa right now, not Olsen nor Stuelke. I do think Guyton is a nice player and has a lot of upside. Stuelke needs to get a midrange shot!
You seem surprised, lol. Iowa has NO history of competing for national championships - the junior and senior years of Caitlin Clark were a lucky exception to the rule. Lisa Bruder coached the team for 25 years and her biggest achievement was her last two years...before that, she'd essentially either missed the playoffs or was knocked out by the second round. If local Iowa product Clark didn't fall into her lap, Bruder would have spent a quarter century coaching without ever grooming a Pro-level starter. As it stands, fringe players Kate Martin and Megan Gustafson are the only other Bruder players ever in the Pros. Iowa has never regularly competed for NCAA championships or produced Pro players, and as soon as the program was brought into the spotlight and expectations raised, Bruder quit as soon as Clark left, because she knew without lucky local Clark, Iowa was going to revert back to its historical mediocre record. Can Iowa's new coach totally transform the program to a perennial championship contender? Very unlikely; and Ex-PAC 12 teams Washington, UCLA, and USC entering the Big -10 certainly don't help.
Play by play c+ ... color commentator d- .. grading was based ok a bell curve. A dumbell curve. No not trying to be mean. It comes naturally. Sorry. But take these criticism. Learn and come back better. I believe in you. I I now your known for your buttered bread like white on white paint. Madlibs is your meat n potatos with your strong amazing killer instinct.
These commentators have to do their homework, saying Luchy Olsen is a threat shooting threes. They mentioned it twice and Olsen shoots 25% from three.
@@casilatino they also mentioned #45 by many different names
Right: Olsen is not "known for her three point game." It's midrange and getting and-ones.
National runner up 2 years in a row. Iowa is tough to beat this year. Some of those same players still there
Thank you for the Iowa Hawkeyes game!
Who r these stupid announcer’s Olson is not known for her 3’s she is known for mid range jumpers
Yeah, B1G+ spares no expense when it comes to play-by-play and color commentary.

@@itomas yea, mispronouncing names in multiple ways too, so annoying.
also the nonstop use of the words minutes and paint are extremely irratating
Get your facts right iowa has been runners up the last two years. Not just one year
Worst announcers I’ve heard in a long time, it’s NOT radio ladies! You don’t have to call every second of action! We have EYES!

I thought they did a fine job.
It was actually a guy and a girl. He said it at 59:18 The girl was better as the game went on, once she stopped McCab. 🤦♂️ The guy was pretty bad at Iowa names.
Never heard a game called like this before 😳
she loves charity stripies whatever that is, bread and butter, paint and telling us how much time is left on the clock 9 times a quarter. very annoying.
Taylor McCabe playing like she wants in the starting lineup. Kylie is just not doing it offensively.
Thats how it works although Kylies defense is great
she did finr
O'Grady and Stokey been to some final fours. They know what it takes to win
#12 of Penn State is a great flopper!🥴
and the reffs kept letting her do it
Could have won an Oscar with that performance. No wait, that's a Steven Segal performance. Pathetic.
No worries this dictated the whole game at the end of the day it seems like Iowa coaches did their job
12 purposely fouls O'Grady and then flops. Ridiculous play and call.
🖤💛 Great Job Lady Hawkeyes!
Go Hawks!

It’s shouldn’t be justified that they aren’t pro, in the first place they are not supposed to be there.
“Intercepted” is the most abused word by the male announcer
do you hear the voices? those arent kids. its the voice of someone over the age of 50
Absolutely brutal call by these announcers. Yikes. By the 4th quarter I had to mute it.
Announcers: The problem is Big Ten-Plus, despite being a paid channel, is basically a training ground for amateur camera people and announcers. Should be renamed Big Ten-Minus. Oh, well, TH-cam does have a mute button.
What kind of commentator says players names incorrectly? They should do a little research before sitting there.
“Jordan center coming alive”, like a cemetery.
Iowa has some good ball handlers
These commentators might be the worst I've ever heard

I had to mute these 2 jokers in the 2nd half but then unmuted to hear what was happening during a long break in the action after a foul.
So hard to listen to these amateur broadcaster's. Gets under a minute and he has to keep telling you the time every 10 seconds.
seriously i mean shut up if you have nothing good to say
At the very beginning when the announcer said "2-nothing, Iowa's 1st bucket of the game, 9:22 remaining" it got sus.
No one is leaving paint undefended.
Can you post UConn vs Marquettes game once it’s over please?
whats with constant use of the words charity stripe? theres no charity or stripees
You mean it not their "bread and butter?"
Came here to post this. Was driving me absolutely bonkers.
very funny. and the amount of times they say paint is annoying as well

where are all the fans
Left with Clark to the w
Commentator is 2 seconds behind the play the entire time and doesn't always call out who actually has the ball or scored.
